We recently made the difficult decision to leave this practice after an extremely emotional experience involving our dog. Our dog was believed to have lymphoma based on bloodwork and an ultrasound showing intestinal thickening. However, after consulting with a specialist, we learned that the blood test used is not always definitive and that intestinal thickening can have multiple possible causes. We were surprised by how much confidence was placed in these findings without more conclusive diagnostics. The hardest part was the emotional impact. We spent days believing our dog had terminal cancer and fearing we may lose her. Looking back, it feels important to share this experience because families deserve to understand that certain tests can have limitations and that second opinions can be critical before making life-altering decisions. To be fair, the veterinarian was responsive outside of business hours and clearly cared about our dog. This review is not meant to attack anyone personally. I simply want to encourage other pet owners to ask questions, understand the limitations of diagnostic testing, and seek a specialist or second opinion before making major treatment or euthanasia decisions. read more

Since moving to Deerfield almost three years ago, from 1500 miles away, we have always taken our three Golden Retrievers there. Shortly after arriving, one of them developed a tooth abscess and so our first visit there was for an evening after hours emergency visit over a holiday weekend. We expected a huge bill for that but was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the charge was. During these Covid restricted years, we have had a couple of situations where we would have visited the office but instead received a phone and photo consultation with no charge. The vets are caring, interested enough in the dogs to remember them, bearing in mind all the animals they must see, and give very personal genuine attention. Love this vet. They took my horse at short notice when he was sick. They also showed up for an emergency visit when my dogs both got lymes at the same time. Ack! I never made it past the receptionist, who couldn't seem to do something as simple as providing a quote for a spay and umbilical hernia fix, which every other vet is easily able to do. Either they haven't done much of this routine work on dogs or they don't respect customers' time enough to provide a quote without making someone take the time to go to their office. If they don't respect my time as the customer, how can I believe they'll respect the health of our family pet. read more

The Vets have a wealth of experience and listen to owners concerns. I drive a distance to go there ( many vet hospitals near me) but they are more than worth the trip. This clinic is wonderful. Dr Kim Brothwell is highly skilled, warm and caring, and took time with our dog and us. Others in the staff are just as great. We also loved how much thought they put into the environment- spotless, beautiful "New England" decor, funny and touching quotes (one from James Herriott!), different waiting spaces for anxious pets, sound-absorbing panels in the ceilings, there's even a beautiful barn mural in the children's playspace. We recently moved to Deerfield. Our dog got sick shortly after the move. The doctors and staff here were very sensitive to our feelings. Our dog was pretty good after his surgery but his cancer took over quickly after that. Everyone here helped us accept his fate. They even allowed us to come back after they closed to let him go quietly. I would recommend this office for anyone who loves their animals. read more

I saw the review by Alma R. and had to put in my two cents. Deerfield Veterinary Clinic has been taking care of my dogs for years. Every person there is kind, compassionate, and honest. Sometimes the honesty part hurts...like when they tell you something you don't want to hear about your beloved pet. I've been there. Operations, sickness, having to say goodbye to a pup...it's emotional for us AND for them, but they put their own feelings aside and try their best to make everyone, human and non-human, as comfortable as possible. One thing I know for sure is that these people DO care more about animals than money. Deerfield is a small town full of animal lovers. People talk. I can't even tell you how many people have been extended credit and/or given free services when they needed it. The George family's generosity is well known in town, and they are also supportive of many local charities. One of the things I love about DVC is that they do NOT charge as much as most vets. They are fair. They do not try to sell you unnecessary things or charge you for tests that do not need to be done. I have always been given very clear choices regarding the care of my dogs, and the possible outcomes of each choice have always been thoroughly explained. I trust DVC 100%. I did not go to veterinary school. I could not do what these people do. I have the utmost respect for every single person there, and it makes me crazy that this one bad review could malign their reputation. My heart goes out to Alma, but I think she may be lashing out because she is in pain over the loss of her pet. read more

We have been bringing our pets here for years. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and compassionate. Their prices are very fair and the hours are extremely flexible, with evenings, weekends, and home visits available. Throughout the years, we've had various issues come up with our cats and dog. The veterinarians don't hesitate to get on the phone and talk through possible solutions and give advice. Dr. George saved our dog's life when she poisoned herself eating plant fertilizer, and saved our cat when he chewed a cord in the middle of the night and electrocuted himself. They are always willing to squeeze us in for an appointment when an issue pops up out of the blue. A few years ago my husband and I were in Camden, Maine, when our Yorkie Phoebe became very ill late at night. The closest late-night clinic was in Bangor. When I called the vet we used back home, all I got was a recording saying to go to the nearest emergency clinic. That would have meant a long drive to Bangor, and we were desperate for an immediate professional opinion. Having heard that Deerfield Vet Clinic had someone on call 24/7, I telephoned and received helpful advice and encouragement. We drove home early the next morning, and Dr. George saw her, came up with a diagnosis, and treated her. That was the turning point. We switched to DVC and during the ensuing years continued to be amazed at the dedication and skill of the entire staff. They really care, and they really love animals and their people. When our beloved but elderly Phoebe died a few months ago, once again Dr. George and Practice Manager Jenni George showered her-- and us -- with TLC. I can't recommend DVC highly enough. My husband and I are not yet ready for another Yorkie, but when the time comes for a new puppy, she'll be a cradle-to-grave client of DVC! read more

Have been going here for years. Very bad experience! Have gone to another vet almost euthanized my dog one vet said my dog was in liver failure the other Dr gave me a second opinion over the phone without seeing my dog! My dog had a liver infection not liver failure, my dog is thriving and doing very well because of another vet . I understand that people make mistakes but 2 vets in the same place. Also a few years ago I was given the wrong mg. meds for the same dog with seizures. I have 9 pets all records transferred to another vet. read more

They made wrong diagnosis...didn't want to do blood work on my dog. With their arrogance insisted the dog was suffering of back pain and not pancreatitis as we kept telling them that dog has been suffering for years...we asked for blood work..they didn't do it...they delayed treatment for days. Do not bring your pet to this vet! Our sweet dog died under their care. We brought him in for surgery (that we saved up for) and 10 minutes after the procedure his heart gave out. There was no explanation other than "it was his time". and "I am not sure what happened". But since the surgery was a "success" here is your bill. We paid the bill because we take care of our family. When we first moved to the area and asked locals where they take their pets, I heard a lot of people say Deerfield Veterinary Clinic. However, it's a 30 minute drive for us so we settled on the vet in town. Unfortunately, we were not happy where we were and recently made the switch. I'm kicking myself for not going to them in the beginning over a mere 30 minutes. Honestly, I'd drive an hour for this place. Every time I call or go in, they act like they know me personally even if they don't remember. (which is a great customer service skill that few can truly possess). Dr. Eldredge acts as if she's treating and handling her own pet with love and care. I'm actually contemplating if she could be my Primary Care Physician and if my insurance would accept her. lol. It feels like you are talking to a friend about your pet and not a typical vet. Costs and fees are comparable with everywhere else. Anyway, back to the topic, my dog is most likely in his last year of life. When the difficult time comes to put him down, I can not imagine another person to administer the medicine and be included in the personal and heartbreaking experience. read more
