Go for a walk...but avoid the water!
What sounds like a bad horror movie is far less dramatic as it seems. The Dechsendorfer Weiher is actually a great place to go for a sunday stroll, have a picnic or a BBQ, spend time with the family or friends and just relax. It might be a bit crowded during summer, but I like to come here on a sunny day in fall or winter, when it's a little less crowded and just as beautiful.
If you planned on going for a swim, however, my advice is not to do so....perhaps you can do it right after they pumped out all the water and got rid of all the muck, but if you want to go for a swim later in the year, especially around the end of summer, it can actually be dangerous for your skin due to cyano bacteria...for as long as I can remember, they always had to drain the pond in fall because the water and everything in it died. You can rent out some paddleboats or canoe across the pond, but you shouldn't risk going swimming.
And yet this place is great - just make sure you don't touch the water....don't even go near it...seriously... ;)
Bottom Line:
* Great place for a walk...
* ...or a picnic or BBQ...
* ...just don't go into the water later in the year! read more
