Only came here for drinks along our adventures on Block Island, since we decided to walk through the entire island instead of doing the suggested moped or bike rental. This resulted in us being super thirsty, and just in the nick of time, we found dead eye dicks. There really isn't anywhere on this picturesque island that doesn't have a beautiful view and great location, but this restaurant seems to take the cake on waterfront dining. We were greeted by the manager with a hearty welcome, and were allowed to sit anywhere we wanted. They have quite a bit of indoor dining, but the clutch spot is to sit on the wraparound deck on the waterside. Our waitress was a spunky, enthusiastic lady, who made our experience here even that much better. We all had drinks, two sampled local CT brews, and my husband and I tried the handcrafted cocktails. The Cucumber Smash was hands down the best of the bunch, fresh, light, and rejuvenating. I had the RBH (rose before hoes), with 4 roses burbon which was flavorful and heavy, and would have suited a meal better than a sipper on a hot day. Sat under the canopy and it was nice! Quite a bit of dock/boats/building blocking the water so not all of the tables have ideal water views. Hours were weird with the break between lunch and dinner but maybe we just went too early in the season. Took a while to have someone come over but everything was prompt after they did. I wanted to visit this location based on their menu and google reviews. It took two days, but i finally got there. The view from our table was beautiful and the food was really good. Our server Sergio was very accommodating and easy to talk to. I got the steamed lobster while my boyfriend got the steak and shrimp. The only downside was some the tables outside didn't have candles or some sort of light. After the sun went down it was a little darker than I would have liked to eat. I would go here again. This was my first time here and I have to say it was a great experience. Came with family for a casual impromptu lunch and sat at the fire pit tables. Service was friendly and fast. I had the cold lobster roll and it was wonderful! Big full pieces of lobster and they did not skimp on it. The fries were also very good! Some people had the fish sandwich and burger and said both were delicious! It's right next to Payne's Dock so it was a convenient location for our family that were docked there. Also had a local oyster from the salt pond which was good however oysters aren't really my thing so I don't know what's good and what isn't. The server was friendly. Perfect! Four of us were seated right away (inside). There was a 1/2 hour wait for the outside porch, but as we had been on a boat for 2 straight days, a respite from the sun was welcome. My daughter in law and I had the fish sandwich. It was the best fish sandwich ever. The fish was nice and flaky and the batter was crunchy (Panko??) which made it so much easier to eat than if it had been battered. My husband and son had fish and chips and did not leave a bite on their plates. The price was what we expected ($120 for 4 including 2 alcohol based drinks). I had no food during my visit so this review is simply about the location, the vibe and the beer. We popped into this joint (which is HUGE btw) for some post dinner drinks on a breezy Friday evening (around sunset). We found a little couch a chairs by a fire pit and settled in for a few drinks. I was shocked/thrilled/tickled pink that I could buy a beer in Block Island for ...wait for it, $4. Granted it was a 'Gansset which is often on the cheaper side but seriously I was expecting $10 beers in a location as beautiful as Dead Eye Dicks. It was a welcome respite from the $11 Mud Slides I'd enjoyed earlier in the day elsewhere. We did catch a most beautiful sunset while we were there-it was amazing. Our propane fire pit crapped out shortly after the waitress lit it but she quickly noticed that the tank needed replacing and she took care of that in a jiffy. My friends ordered some wings which were delivered fast to our little sunset area. It was quite delightful. I look forward to checking it out again on my next trip. read more

We stopped in to Dead Eye Dick's for lunch during a day of biking around the island. Service was fine. I do wish they would have offered us outdoor uncovered seating. We arrived at opening and there was plenty of seating out on the edge of the patio overlooking the water, instead we ended up being seated at the back of the patio near the door. Starving from biking all morning, I decided to just take the seat. For food I ordered the hot lobster roll while my boyfriend ordered the cold. The hot roll was pretty good. The meat was slightly tougher than I prefer but I chalk that up to sitting in hot butter. Just a minor inconsistency, the cold roll had about half more meat than the hot. Took a short walk from the Old Harbor to this Block Island mainstay. Started with Local Oysters and jumbo shrimp and totally enjoyed the cold lobster roll. This roll won my Island favorite as I was eating them in search of the best. We also order a fresh fish sandwich, a summer salad topped with grilled shrimp and the not to be missed Lobster Avacado BLT. This sandwich is a full sail starboard run that is worth the walk. The menu looked great. There were several things I wanted to order. For appetizers we settled on calamari& cheese fries. Both were very yummy. They use real cheese (w béchamel sauce) as opposed to fakey-type cheese sauce on the cheese fries which I liked, and we got them w bacon. They were super crispy and not soggy at all. Those were prob my favorite dish. Calamari was also good. I got the fish tacos which were ok. They desperately needed more sauce and/or some SALT. Very under-seasoned. Got a side salad which was a $2 upcharge for a small dish of arugula w some carrots and tomatoes. My fiancé got the scallop tostadas. They were good but first of all, not a tostada. They were 4 large scallops (good for the price) on wanton chips, and they went HARD on the blackening seasoning. Like that's all you tasted lol. Our friend had the grilled chicken sandwich which he described as 'standard.' Definitely potential for great food but was just ok. Server was very nice and everyone was spread out and wore masks. We started with the Lobster Bisque, Oysters and Calamari. All 3 were very good and noticeably very fresh. I got the steak sandwich for my entree which was great, but it had a bit too much cheese on it for my liking. Fries were also very good. Everyone else at the table also really enjoyed their food. I've tried many restaurants on Block Island and for a long time I was reluctant to try Dead Eye Dicks because I was under the impression it was kinda dumpy and divey. I thought that for two reasons 1) because of it's silly name and 2) because this restaurant is repeatedly advertised on the ferry boat ride from New London. Their "Come for the food, stay for the view" slogan is engrained into every passenger's brain on the ferry's loud speaker. So it can't be very nice, right? I was wrong. Dead Eye Dicks is actually a very nice, clean and airy restaurant. It has a large outdoor porch and a large inside dining room. There's a medium sized bar area with stools and a few high tables. The menu is definitely slanted towards seafood which isn't a bad thing for this seafood loving guy. I had the fish tacos and they were very good. My only complaint was that they were a tad bit watery. Where the water came from, I don't know. I think the water came from either the salsa or the cole slaw. Throughout my Saturday visit the service was excellent. One word of caution about the timing. I believe the kitchen closes between the hours of 3 and 5 o'clock. That's very typical in Europe by the way. PS: This restaurant is located on the New Harbor side of the island. There's basically two distinct villages on the island; New Harbor and the much bigger Old Harbor. Most ferries dock into the Old Harbor. read more

WOW! By far the most amazing seafood I've had since moving out of Maine! I had the fish and chips. The fish was seasoned and fried amazingly. The crust was crunchy and light but didn't effect the moist fish flavor. Th fries were crunchy and delicious. Homemade tartar sauce came with the platter and it was on point! Balance of cream and chunks was beyond! My husband had the lobster avocado blt. The lobster was fresh chunked lobster on a marble rye with ripe mashed avocado and bacon. The bartender Carlos helped us at the bar, another female bartender popped in , GREAT personalities and honestly, they were closed but he knew we had just been biking in 80 degree weather and fed us anyway. My husband had the fish and chips, which was really excellent. I had the lobster avocado blt. First of all, let me say that the mere existence of a lobster avocado blt is awesome! The bacon was crispy and there was lots of lobster. My only complaint is that they put raw onion in the lobster salad. I realize lobster salad is ubiquitous in New England, and I don't fault them for trying to make theirs stand out. But raw onion just overpowers the lobster, which is not a strong-flavored seafood.
