Interesting detail: there is a lot of controversy about the origin of the word estaminet - a typical old type pub in Northern France and Belgium, but it's really quite simple: in Spanish times, bar owners tried to attract Spanish soldiers with a leaflet outside that spelled 'esta minetta' (there is a girl). The food is classic Flemish fare, with a strong predominance of steaks with thick creamy sauces, but there are a lot of nice starters and salads, and waffles, warm appletarts with vanilla icecream and lots of different Belgian beers.
