I have been seeing Dr. Donnellan for severe OCD and depression for at least ten years and have made…read moreremarkable progress under his care. Unlike previous psychiatrists I've seen, Dr. D actually takes the time to talk to you to better understand your situation and provides real guidance on how to do things better or different. He is considered one of the top experts in OCD in the area and was highly recommended by my psychologist. He even runs a monthly OCD group session. I don't understand the reviews from people saying Dr. D was "over medicating" them. My experience has been the complete opposite. In fact, I am taking half the medication I used to. What I also like about Dr. D is that he doesn't just rely on meds alone. He asks about your sleep, whether you're exercising, and considers many other environmental factors in your treatment. He also has a good sense of humor which is the complete opposite of my previous psychiatrists. Highly recommended!

Dr. Donnellan has been a practicing psychiatrist for almost thirty years. Though my time spent with…read morehim has not been to the level of years as some other patients who have left reviews, I have never been more joyful about finding the right doctor. He does not boast, however he is extremely intelligent. He likes to allow his patients to think and advocate for themselves, and draw their own conclusions, with some guidance. He is excellent at challenging his patients, which if you are anything like myself, is much needed and eventually greatly appreciated. To those of you neigh sayers that have left reviews about being quick to assess, being a waste of time and money, and quick to medicate, I invite you to rethink your experience with Dr. Donnellan. Do we not all quickly assess a situation when it is thrust upon us, whether right or wrong? Second- your time, your money. Trust me, he makes your time worthwhile whether you see it quickly or it takes a bit. Medication- stop and think how long it may take to find the right combination. You have to start somewhere, and proceed with what works and what may not work. Give yourself and Dr. D some patience, and you will start to see a difference. Overall, I could not recommend a better listener, positive instigator, and excellent clinician. If you are willing to change, and put the effort into doing so, Joseph Donnellan is the right fit for you.

This is my opinion. I allege: 2 things - WRONGFUL DIAGNOSIS and IMPROPER SEXUAL TOUCHING of…read morepatient. 1ST ALLEGATION: Sometime ago my friend, with a developmental / birth injury , was diagnosed as mentally ill because he took a friend to the store his father owned after work hours. He was sent to Carrier Clinic and Richard Hall Mental Health, who put him on mind altering medication that affected his health. When J asked to get off the medication he was told by his counselor at RHMH that they would revoke his social security. J was on social security for being developmentally disabled before his involvement with RHMH and Carrier. J finally moved to Pennsylvania where he was able to find a psychiatrist and psychologist who agreed to reduce and eliminate most of his medications. Sadly because of the permenent damages some medications do, J was not able to discontinue all of them. J died at age 59, in my opinion his medications were a large part of his heart problems and poor health. 2ND ALLEGATION: I went to RHMH @1993 because I needed an evaluation for a workplace injury. The PSYCHOLOGIST PUT HIS HAND BETWEEN MY LEGS, then lied about it. THEN THE PSYCHOLOGIST PHONED ME LATER TO COME BACK FOR MORE"""THERAPY""". Of course nothing ever happened to him- the state medical boards are reluctant to remove any members. My advice - stay away from this place. Something is really wrong in the psych field. Try the CCITIZENS COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS - CCHR.org for help dealing with the psychiatrist/psychologists/ wrongful and over-medication. The psychiatrists hate this organization because it exposes them for what most of they are. In NJ it is AGAINST THE LAW for any psychologist, nurse practitioner or counselor to PHYSICALLY TOUCH a patient in any way, unless it is to do something medical, like take your blood pressure. A psychiatrist may touch you only when medically necessary such as taking your blood pressure. If you feel you have been improperly touched by any medical 'professional' please go to the Somerset County Prosecutors Office and file a complaint.
