I've been going to her for over 10 years and she always does a good job and her shampoo massage is just what I needed during this pandemic. Although I moved an hour away, I found myself making the drive after paying the price of a bad haircut and having to wait months for it to grow back to fix. Sandra's the real deal . This review is probably long overdue. I usually go to sandra for my hair dyeing needs and she always gets exactly what i want on the first try. blonde, red, green, u want it? she can do it. recently my other haircut barber moved and i didn't know where he went so i was like hm i should try out my hair colorist . i remembered sandra cuts guys and girls hair. i wasn't disappointed. i have naturally wavy thick asian hair that's tricky to cut and sandra did a great job at taming it and did it in a timely manner ( i'll attach an after photo). i also enjoy her life conversations because she always keeps it real with me :D the prices went up but with my long hair my haircut i believe was $35 without tips! not too shabby and it came with a wash as well. read more

There was a nice, shorter, chubbier Hong Kong guy called Eric who was excellent for any classic Japanese influenced hairstyle of the day for only $22 before. I had been going to him for years. But life is full of unexpected changes. Yesterday, I was told Eric had gone and they gave me this Northern Chinese guy called Brando. So, okay, I speak a bit Mandarin, let's give it a shot. Brando said my hair was very dry and suggested to cut 5 inches. I said okay, why not, my hair was very long.. He did the job on the back alright. All the dry ends're gone and it's not too short. But the front was terrible. I told him to cut it "tilted" just like what pretty much 9 out of 10 girls had nowadays on all the Asian fashion magazines, pretty easy right? He had the nerve to cut it all the way to maybe only 4 inches long. I look like my mom now. This really sucks. I think I'm gonna go to another salon next weekend to get some touch ups. I know. For $30 I really can't say anything, but I also will never go back to that wreck again. Wonder where Eric went. Does any Yelper know that Eric? Please track him down for me. I've been coming to this salon for a couple of years now. Brando [QingHe] has been my stylist since the day I found him back in 2007. I don't know about that other review regarding him, but then again, nobody's perfect. He doesn't really speak any English at all, and my Mandarin isn't the best. He's extremely humble, funny, and sweet. He pays attention to the shape of one's head, your bone structure, and cuts your hair in a way that will be flattering to your face. He listens carefully, and he takes his time. For the price, you can't complain. You can spend almost 20 at Supercuts to be butchered, or you can come to Brando and come out looking fantastic. Brando doesn't use his clippers for more than a couple minutes to trim sideburns and the back of your hair... if someone is using clippers for anything other than that, you should immediately tell them to get bent. His scissor technique is almost flawless. He's precise and fast, but cautious. It's rare that you see someone point cut as rapidly as he does without cutting himself, especially if your hair is as short as mine. I believe that if he spoke English, he could probably work in a much nicer salon and make 3 to 4 times as much as he makes. If you're a difficult client, you should go somewhere else where you can pay for your stylist to put up with your crap. The people that work the salon are chill, friendly, and really funny. If you don't like your hairstyle, they'll work with you to get it right. I must say, however, I've never disliked my hair... even when I've randomly appeared, telling him to just "have fun"... he makes me look great every time. read more

So I finally got a haircut from here...and before I say anything...I would like to make it clear that the lady that cuts my hair is my boyfriend's mother (Nancy)...and I'm not just putting a positive review just because of that. Okay, so usually...I'm always reluctant to get my hair cut..'cause I've always liked my hair long...it's like my safety blanket. My boyfriend of 4 years been telling to cut my hair for the past couple of months as I was having too much hair..and it was a big puffy mess... I finally caved in today, considering I had really bad experiences from other salons..they either cut it too short or barely even trimmed it. I've been to sooo many chinese hair salons and this is one of the best. Ask for Nancy. She is the owner of the salon and will take care of you. She's great at haircuts...and she's a wonderful colorist...frequently changing her own haircolor, etc. Even if you tell her you want a certain hairstyle, she will make subtle changes to make it look better on you. They are closed on Thursdays. So, yeah it's true this place is run by older Chinese people. I think she's in her 40s, but the price is just right. If you go to a younger more "hip" place, they tend to charge you more. I guess an older place is just more old school. It's inside the San Gabriel Superstore Plaza on San Gabriel and Valley next to AU 79. So I got a haircut + highight and color for $100. and it was quality work. Expect to be there for about 2-2.5 hours. I went to a younger more hip salon couple of months ago and they charged me $198 for the same work. So now I am back at my old favorite. read more

Okay so I've been here 3 times now for Sandra. 1st time = asked for a fohawk type of hair...came out alright ($20 w/o tip) 2nd time = asked for a Taeyang haircut...she ended up giving me something like Android 16 from Dragonball Z...but overall it was okay, except she kept the top too long so I looked more like a punk...the back was also somewhat uneven ($15 w/o tip) 3rd time = asked for a Taylor Lautner cut...she got the job done, wasn't much cutting involved, kept it pretty simple this time since she was working from my old mohawk ($15 w/o tip) overall I feel like Sandra is okay, she didn't really rush my mohawks before but she kinda rushed my brother's fohawk today...but I'm starting to look for new places and pay a bit extra next time for my more advanced cuts. read more

She is definitely artistic & passionate when it comes to hair. I like how she thins my hair out every time I go due to my really thick hair. Also, she never cuts your hair too short if you ask for a simple trim. The pricing is very reasonable. About $30 for shampoo/conditioning/head massage, cut, blow-dry, and flat-ironing. I love this place. Someone I knew recommended me this place to do the Japanese straightening. The lady/ owner was very careful & cares about your hair. She makes sure your hair isn't bleached or dyed before the process. Overall, this salon is great for japanese straightening! I was here recently for Sandra. She's not the smiley type but she's quite nice. She was very prompt for the appointment even though it was raining that day. I showed her a picture of the hairstyle I would like and she got right to work. She washed my hair thoroughly 3 times! No other salon has done that before. She made sure that the water temperature was right and just started washing. She basically washed the entire hair first, then the top part only, and lastly the bottom half only. After that, she confirmed with me one more time the hairstyle that I wanted. Even though she was amazed with how much hair I have (and it's thick too), she cut my hair in such a short period of time. Usually, my NORMAL haircut takes about AN HOUR. Sandra did it in 20-30 minutes! Awesome! I asked her to thin out my hair and she did it so perfectly. Sometimes, certain stylists do not thin out the hair well and it made your head look poofy. There's no such problem with Sandra. The price was also cheap. My haircut was $28. I usually pay $35-40 somewhere else. read more

Word of warning. My mother is a regular at this studio and has been bothering me for ages to come here because "they cut hair pretty. (Stop going to cheap places. They make you look ugly blah blah blah.)" So I went. She forced me to insist on getting Nancy because she's the owner so we set up an appointment and I came in. Nancy was really nice. Her English is pretty good and she really knows about hair. She was really shocked I had so much hair. Not sure if more hair than normal (I get that comment sometimes) or just much much more than my mother and therefore it's weird. I told her what I wanted and she recommended either having me thin out my hair or get layers that aren't as long because it just wouldn't work the way it is... so I insisted that I didn't want my hair thinned and got to work. When I was done, it was... decent. But I trusted that it would be good so I went a week as it is. Eventually, I just grew tired of it so I dropped by a week afterwards and asked if it could be fixed. I had to wait a while because I had no appointment... and it was getting close to closing time so I was getting really worried but Nancy said not to worry about it and started cutting five minutes to closing. I addressed my concerns and this time I felt like she knew exactly what style I wanted. I think she thinned out my hair but if she did it, it's because she had to but in the end.... I'm alright with it. My hair looked amazing afterwards and still it's amazing now. She didn't charge either. And she gave me some recommendations on products and didn't push them on me. In fact she just kept saying, "Your mom probably has it. Go try hers out." I just wish I had the mind to tip anyway. I was tired and I just kept thinking I didn't have any change. I've told my mom to tip extra next time for me so maybe that'll help? read more

I keep coming back to get the Japanese straightening treatment once a year even though I live in the Bay area (I come back to LA to visit family a few times a year). The reason keep coming back instead of other places closer to me is because her pricing is reasonableand she is very detail-oriented and methodical. She does not take any shortcuts and the results shows. My hair is smooth, straight, and shiney after the treatment and it stays that way at least for a year! I also prefer to get my haircut hair if I can, Nancy knows how to deal with thick, Asian hair, and knows what looks good. I trust her professional judgement. read more
