We were in a desperate situation…read moreneeding a place to stay, and they did have an available apartment while we waited for a new build to be completed. The lady in the office was fabulous and I was appreciative of everything she did. We rented the unit sight-unseen, except for a few pictures. The photos showed it needed cleaning, but we were assured it would be taken care of before move-in. It goes downhill from here. When we arrived, we were mortified. I won't go into all the details, but after four hours of cleaning on our part, the unit was finally livable. When I asked about the condition, the response was that they had been sick--things happen, so we moved on. Within days, the refrigerator froze and ruined all the food, over $300. After 10 days and three calls to maintenance with no resolution, we were eventually offered the refrigerator from the office (which I do appreciate). Problem solved--temporarily. Then, the shower backed up, water ran across the bathroom floor, and liquid began coming from under the toilet. The sink, toilet, and shower were completely unusable. I have since learned the plumbing had been an issue that was never properly fixed. We were told to use another unit for showers and bathrooms in the meantime. Whenever I asked when the new apartment would be ready, I was told "a couple more weeks," followed by, "I'll give you a week's notice." No firm answers, just delays, offered another unit that was ready but honestly looked no better than the current living space and not much bigger. Ultimately, through the help of others, we found alternate housing. During the plumbing crisis, a $550 refund promise was made and was told, "I'll make it right." But when we returned all the keys and I asked about the refund, the story changed. After multiple texts, a missed FaceTime call from him (unsure why he would FaceTime), and then a phone call from him, I was told I wouldn't be getting the refund because I wasn't leasing from him anymore. The conversation ended with me being cursed at--"F- you, you dumb b****"--before he hung up. I texted back in shock questioning his professionalism, I was met with "tell your hubby too". When I mentioned pursuing legal action, I was told, "Bring it." Since then, I've spoken to multiple people who all told me the same thing: I should have stayed away. His reputation as a slumlord is well-known in the area. I wish I'd done that research earlier. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend renting here. I expect a defensive or snarky response to this review, as seems to be the pattern with other negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share what happened.

I also noticed roach traps and asked about that and she said that she hates bugs and wouldn't want her tenants to live with them but the bugs that were in the traps were ants and they were literally everywhere no matter how much we cleaned. Then the hot water heater went out and they wouldn't fix it either. They then sent a message saying we were in breach of our lease and to provide proof that we fixed it within 7 days. We just found a place and moved again. We could barely afford it after she took all my savings and when she grabbed the money she slammed her hand down on it. I almost said nevermind we don't want to buy then and I should have but i didn't. DEFINITELY don't do the rent to own option because they are a screwing people over soooo bad. She said she was going to evict us because there were MULTIPLE INFESTATIONS WHEN WE MOVED IN. I hope every person in West Virginia (because they are trying to monopolize the whole state) sees this and thinks twice about living there. Go look at the reviews everywhere else because I was stupid enough not to but we have a really good rental company now because they come the very next day to fix the problems.
