I came here for an early ultrasound, and I couldn't believe how unprofessional they were. I was surprised I could get an appointment here the very next morning after visiting my huisarts, but now I see perhaps why they had spaces open on such short notice.
The first annoying thing was that the receptionist didn't acknowledge me for at least 5 minutes while I stood there with a bored and impatient 3 year old rolling around on the floor in front of me. The receptionist was busy trying to schedule another appointment for the couple standing in front of me, but I still think she could have at least looked up from her computer for a second and said hello. I had already walked into the wrong entrance around the corner a few minutes earlier, so I wanted to have confirmation that I was in the right place.
Then when I checked in I asked her where the bathrooms were, and instead of answering she just told me I shouldn't pee before having an ultrasound. Ooookaay, well I hadn't heard of that rule before, so I just went with it and took a tense fidgeting seat in the waiting room. Only I arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment and ended up waiting an hour to be seen. About 45 minutes into waiting my husband asked why it took so long, and we were told that their system for appointments was screwed up, that I needed to have an ultrasound done with special equipment that wasn't available yet because it was turned on late in the morning, and then some other nonsense excuse that didn't make any sense. None of this explained why another couple that showed up 30 minutes after I did were called into the 'special equipment' ultrasound room first. Bugging the receptionist did prompt her to come over to the waiting room to tell me I could pee, so at least then I had some relief, but it made her initial warning against peeing seem even more arbitrary.
The final stroke of incompetence came when I finally got called into the ultrasound room, and one of the two technicians told me she didn't know what she was doing. She told me she needed the other woman to tell her 'what buttons to push'. I didn't mind that, but they never confirmed how far along I was, so they insisted on doing an abdominal ultrasound even though I told them I needed a vaginal. Then after jamming the probe so hard into my c-section scar that it hurt two days later, they determined they couldn't see anything, asked me to pee again because it was necessary for visibility (again totally weird and unnecessary) and *then* decided they had to do a vaginal ultrasound. But I told them this from the beginning! Then they told me my baby was too small and I almost had a heart attack. It turns out my baby was the right size for the actual number of weeks it was along, but since they never confirmed how far along I was they just assumed it was too small and freaked me out. So in the end I got some good news, my baby was the right size and had a heartbeat, but holy crap was that a lot of hassle to go through to get that information. They wouldn't measure the heartbeat either. They just said 'it goes klippy klop so it is good'. It made me shake my head, because knowing the heartrate is also useful information, but I figured I'd cut my losses and just get out of there. Next time if I can, I'll go somewhere else! read more
