This is a flag football league, meaning contact and dangerous plays should be minimized. A few instances have arisen that point out gaps in their rules that allow dangerous play to go on. For example, a player that jumps and kicks his legs at others' faces is not doing anything illegal unless he makes contact. Other players naturally try to avoid being kicked. Which is why high kicks are banned in most flag football leagues (as well as in soccer, where there's a legitimate reason to kick a leg out). It's normal for rules to miss some situations and need to be revised, but when I pointed out the problem to the league, they did not care. I've encountered this attitude towards player safety one too many times to keep my kids in the league. I'll be looking for other opportunities for them to play.

I am realizing how much I miss playing soccer in the District Sports leage now in this Covid era where sports are off the table for a bit! Pros: Cost: Only about $80 for a season- not too bad, and probably breaks down to about $10 a game or less. Locations: The fields are pretty conveniently located, not too far to get to. Team captains have a say in what fields are played on, as well as the schedules of the games, and they take into account where players on the teams live. General game conditions: The fields were in good condition. Games were held on both grass and turf fields, and referees for the games seemed competent and always showed up on time. Diversity: There are lots of folks of all different ages and skill levels in this league. The league is coed. The average age is probably 28ish, if I had to guess. There are definitely more men than women in this league. Social element: There is a social element to this league. After wins, many teams go out for drinks or food. Friendships are definitely built in this league. Cons: This con is more of a pro, in some ways. Because the league is coed, but male dominated, there's a rule that asks that at least three female players be on the field at all times, for each team playing. If there are not enough girls, a team has to forfeit the win, regardless of the score. Because of this, sometimes, as a girl, when teams playing games either before or after your scheduled game are short on female players, they will ask you to play for them in their games. If you want to get some extra play in, it is very easy to play for other teams who need female players to have to not forfeit games. You also will get a lot of playing time as a girl in general, because of the way league rules are structured, and because of the general shortage of girl players.

They offer indoor soccer, futsol, frisbee, 7 on 7 soccer, indoor kickball, and basketball. There's plenty to do year round with this league and the fees are very reasonable. If you can sign up with a team, or just walking a meet some new people. Everyone is incredibly friendly, great adult recreational league. And, yes, they do like to party too. Just fyi, if you're very a competitive soccer player, this isn't the league for you.

The first night, the League rep did not have a list of teams and the names of the people who comprised them. So, for those of us who didn't know our team members, that was a problem! As a result, week 1 standings were messed up, because people just played on random teams. They also did not build enough time into the season to account for rain cancellations. So we sometimes had to play in inclement weather. And the metrobar court we played on was badly warped, so it was mostly just luck if you had a good roll. I heard the owners/organizers are running the League as a side gig, but that's no excuse to not do it well. On top of everything, the end-of-season party at Pinstripes was scheduled during an NFL game on a Sunday! For football fans, it was a no-brainer as to which event to choose! Overall, I'd say don't play unless you know your teammates. I was hoping to use it as a way to meet people, but it really didn't lend itself to doing that, and it was more frustrating than fun. One other thing: There was no regular communication from League organizers for several weeks, which was frustrating. Overall, not a great experience.

I've played in three other social sports leagues and DC Bocce tops them all because of the crazy number of people who play in each league, the laid-back nature of the game which promotes friendships between teams, and the super sponsor bars who really take pride in being a part of DC Bocce. With all of my love comes some serious frustrations with the organization of the league - this is not a good sport for those who like to have their schedule locked down as games times are frequently not announced until day-of, weather cancellations are always too late (ie: when you're on the field and it's completely pouring), and rescheduling games is chaotic (two games in one week instead of adding another game in the same night etc). BUT, really it's the best. Sign up for a team today!

Park for free along the street and walk into a large outdoor space with a field surrounded by rowhouses and a playground with two areas with equipment. My five-year-old daughter loved the playground, especially the climbing ropes. If you go, note that there's barely any shade so plan accordingly. The staff were incredibly responsive and kind. The space itself is beautiful, with large windows letting in plenty of sunlight. There's also a great playground nearby that the camp use for several hours each day. Kids did beautiful art projects throughout the summer, which we cherished. The snack options they provided were healthy. We'll definitely be returning!
