Always a good show. Having viewed 100s of theatre productions, from high schools to Broadway, during the past 50+ years I can honestly say I've seen a little bit of everything. Expectations however, must be set based on the level of professionalism expected for each venue. Community theatre productions are made up of people who simply love the theatre, love to be involved, are willing to invest their time (and often money) and expect to gain nothing from their participation but personal satisfaction and (hopefully) the appreciative applause of a satisfied and entertained audience. The five or so years I've been a season subscriber the Dayton Playhouse has provided me with more than 25 wonderfully entertaining plays or musicals. Certainly some productions, as well as some performers, are stronger than others but that truly never distracts from the overall enjoyment of the show. Last season's production of "1776" was one of the best performed (and sung) productions I have ever seen on any stage with no exception. "1776" was so moving and well done I returned the following week for a second viewing (and would have returned again had the show run longer). If you enjoy theatre then you should at least give the Dayton Playhouse a try. The theatre is located in a beautiful park with plenty of free parking and they offer a variety of shows each season. These are some wonderfully talented hard working folks whose love of theatre is very obvious in every show they produce. read more
