To find authentic Punjabi food outside of the greater Houston area it's a big deal. Food was great, service was great, the owner (female attendant) was super sweet and very nice to my kids! Ambience was nice and quiet, not loud or crowded, spacious when we came in for lunch! My daughter(18 mos old) is very picky and the fact that she ate the palak leftovers (she fell asleep at lunch) is a huge deal! Would recommend 8/10. Food was pretty decent but service left a lot to be desired. Ordered the lunch specials, a paneer dish, channa samosa and garlic naan. The butter chicken was good as was everything on the lunch special plate. The naan was awesome. The paneer was unfortunately rubbery rather than soft, which I don't enjoy. The server seemed very uninterested and lacked personality. I asked for Indian hot and she told me "no but we can add spices to it" There was no ambiance at all, they should really play some music in the restaurant. Ordered takeout last night from them, and I LOVE their mushroom rice, it's so perfect. Their butter chicken is a tad sweet and I would have preferred it to be a little more on the tikka masala side, but that's only a preference. I can't really comment on the service and the ambiance of the restaurant since I haven't had a chance to dine inside, but overall my dinner experience was really great. I had the Aloo Matar - Potato and green pees cooked with spices. I had asked for medium. First few bites I wasn't overly impressed by the heat, but after the fourth or fifth bite, the heat built up and was an amazing level. I would have preferred a touch more spice, but it was well done. The dish itself was tasty. Cooked well. Flavorful. The spice didn't overpower the flavors. The rice pudding though? Mah gawd. Literally the best rice pudding I've had in my entire life. They make it in house, and it has an amazing texture. Perfectly cools off the mouth after a warm meal. Has the most subtle of flavors. It made up for the fact that they either charged me $5 for rice, or screwed up my bill. read more

This has been our fave Indian place for a long time, every other Indian experience since here has been disappointing. In all the years we've been going we've never experienced "microwaved chicken" as in Vanessa G's review. Some of our favourite dishes are chicken coconut (slightly sweet with nice flakes of coconut in a yellow curry sauce with moist chunks of chicken), eggplant bhartha (tastes of roasted deliciousness), prawn saag (ok, this one looks so gross - but it tastes so good, big juicy prawns), navrattan korma (veggies and cashews in a very creamy sauce, no low fat here) - each of these dishes is amazingly spiced and the heat is dependent on your request, we prefer medium. All of their naan is great, we prefer the garlic - yum! The samosas are solid, but nothing spectacular. The calamari is perfectly spiced, just a little heat served with some great chutney; they were not too chewy, they were halfway between moist and crispy, I would have preferred them crispier - but I still really liked them and would order again. If you come here on the night of a concert, etc. give yourself plenty of time - they get really busy. The restaurant has undergone recent upgrades to the dining area, it is appropriately decorated with a slightly upscale but comfortable theme, it has better than average lighting and the table spacing is good. Nice enough for a first date, but prepared to share if dining for dinner; they serve most items family style so it's best to pick a few. They have a nice selection of local and international wines by the glass and half carafe, etc.. The wait staff are always willing to help, and they really seem to know the menu so don't be afraid to ask for advice. read more

We debated about ordering here and decided to do so. We were ushered to the bar area to order take out. The server was kind and provided us water while we waited for our food. We ordered chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, and 2 orders of naan. Waiting time: We ordered at 7:43pm. The food was packed up and ready at 8:03pm. The server provided us with cutleries and plates. Portions: Appeared large based on the takeout containers. The naans are large slices. Taste: First impression we got was that the sauce is really red and that the tikka masala has too much sauce and lacking in vegetables. Both plates lack in fragrant spices but did not lack in the heat. Compared to the same plates we order in Vancouver restaurants, this is below average. Both sauces are too tomato based and too runny. There are poor public health and cleaning practices at Dawett. The owners are not on site and the managers here have no care about guest experience or proper sanitation. If you care about your health and well being, do not eat here! Especially if you have respiratory conditions, avoid! My fiancé and I came in for dinner around 9pm. After we got our main entrees, one of the servers begins to quickly mop the floors in the front of the restaurant and then the back of the restaurant near the bar area. Before I could say something, the smell of the PineSol chemicals from the cleaning solution were permeating throughout the restaurant. It was incredibly difficult to enjoy the food while breathing in the PineSol cleaning chemicals. When my fiancé and I brought up the issue to a server or potentially manager (older woman), she could have cared less. She indicated that next time that we could be moved. Also, she said that the server was responsible for mopping that evening and was leaving her shift early. And she said all of this without a care in the world and assumed that we would be back. No way! We also spoke to our server who was sympathetic but the manager didn't want to do anything. Also, the owner was not on site. I've never been to a restaurant that cleans while people are eating. Neither should you. This restaurant exposes its guests to toxic fumes. This practice is poor public health and sanitation. Who knows what else they are doing? For people with upper respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, the chemicals would make it difficult to breathe. Usually restaurants or cafes will clean after guests leave. Also, the person cleaning should be the last person to leave. Why was only one person mopping? And during dinner hours? It was also incredibly arrogant that the server/manager assumed that we would be back. There was no care in the world from the manager/server (older woman). Regarding food, the portions here are ridiculously small. The butter chicken only had a few small pieces of chicken. Smallest portion sizes from an Indian restaurant to date. Bang for buck is not worth it. If you care about your health, do not come here!! You will be breathing in toxic fumes. The PineSol chemicals are what is used to wipe the tables as well, I saw bottles of the solution when we left the restaurant. read more

My Boss took me to lunch here for my first day at my new job. The decor is warm and inviting, and exotic. It smells like great indian spices as soon as you enter. We went during the rush but were seated immediately, and the food was on our table in 10 mins. I ordered the Mango Chicken special and my Boss had the Butter Chicken. The specials come with chick peas, salad, naan, rice, and potatoes on big aluminum plates, very neat. The service was fast and efficient as well and I was not unhappy with my meal. We were looking for Thai food but lucky for us, the restaurant was closed. The reviews of the welcoming staff and excellent food are accurate. We had more than enough food with the Tandorri supper (which came with enough chicken for two plus rice, salad, raita and a nan). We had the pakora appetizer which were hot and delicious (and plentiful). The only disappointment was the vegetable curry which had way too much sauce for the small amount of veggies. Aren't vegetables cheap enough to load up this dish with more? And the sauce was bland and pasty. the nan bread was excellent. The service was very pleasant and professional and the decore is perfect in creating a feeling of an upscale special place. The portions were ridiculous for $15 you get three little tiny pieces of chicken barely any sauce if I were to pour it into a glass it might be maybe a quarter cup if that some other potato side was bland the butter chicken was bland no flavour at all didn't even really taste like butter chicken whatsoever the non-bread was flavourless and thick and starchy horrible bread I'll never eat there again I give them a one out of 10 read more

This is probably going to be my first negative review about any place in the world, yes honestly I never got this sour from a restaurant ever ever in my whole entire life of my 30+ years of age. Let's me start from the beginning, we the group of 6 adults and 4 kids came to this restaurant on Thursday night at 9:32pm and was turned out by the waitress who explained the policy in 15 seconds and wouldn't let us speak whatsoever when we said it says online they close at 10:00pm and we can order right away. Seems like she just didn't wanted us to be there at all. Anyways we left with our hungry team and grabbed dinner at Thai restaurant as they were able to take us in. Come Friday and I'm so stupid still thought it's a great idea to give restaurant one more try as everyone can have one bad day. This time it's was just two of us - the first thing we were told by the waitress was - "I'm the only one working here so will be at least 5 mins till she clean the table for us as she just finished the biggest rush of lunch". Well no big deal for us and we waited. I'm not sure why it seems like she was doing us a huge favour in the first place to do anything even though the fun fact is she sure gets paid to do it. She was very concern to leave the menu with us even though we mention we will order some take out (extremely weird and 3rd red flag), but it was okay for her to leave a dirty rag and windex next to our table. Food is decent enough in short and chai was probably made in the morning and wasn't even close to a good cup of tea, we loved our fish pakora. Flagged the lady down as the whole time she was running around restaurant (with 3 occupied tables) as the chicken without head. I was extreme terrified and shocked to see the charge for $1.00 for my chilli when I asked for spicy food and wasn't spicy enough. Straight up highway robbery you guys. When I asked if I can speak with someone in management she claimed herself to be the manager, that was the whitest lie I came across. If she was the manager for real I dnt know how she wasn't sure what can be done if a customer is that upset about a charge We still left her a tip and didnt bother taking our dollar charged chillies - thinking may be someone else wnt be charged for that. Their close time is 10pm - I am leaving this comment to make a suggestion to management. Recommendation: please change your closure time to 9:30pm if you plan on not seating your customers when they walk in at 9:20pm. If I had known, I would have gone to another restaurant and not have wasted my time. We were able to do take out only after I asked. I was very disappointed in the customer service overall. The waitress didn't even offer us water or have us seated while we waited for the food. Our family felt ignored and stood for most of the time until our order was ready. First of all this is my favourite cuisine and as such i am the most critical as a result. I have eaten indian food in every major city in canada and this is the best i have ever had by a long road. The butter chicken is to die for and the naan is fantastic. The menu has a great deal to offer for any tastes. The vegetarian section is diverse and will satisfy any meat eater too. If you still have room for dessert after you get through the main course, portions are deceiving when they arrive, go for the home-made mango ice cream....soooo good. The service is quite good. I hear the food is good here, but I couldn't tell you myself. Showed up here at 9:15pm last night, freezing cold, with a party of 3. The restaurant was entirely empty. The waitress intercepted us at the door, and told us they don't seat anybody after 9pm, because they wouldn't get out of work by 10pm. It didn't matter that we offered to order and eat quickly - they just weren't willing to do their job and serve us. If you say you're open until 10pm, but won't serve anyone after 9pm, you're not open until 10pm. Pretty simple. I'd guess that the owners of the restaurant would be disappointed to hear that their servers were turning away business on an otherwise slow night. I hope this makes it back to them. We were looking forward to trying your food, but we didn't get the chance, simply because your staff is lazy. This is a bad way to run a business. The basics are ok. Decent naan bread, nice chicken tikka that was moist but no exciting flavor that makes you sit up and take notice - ho hum. But the failure was lamb vindaloo - mere tomato soup with scattered lamb chunks floating in it, monotonous flavor. The tomato curry sauce was thin and uninteresting, and if you'd tasted it in isolation you'd hardly guess it was Indian curry. 2 1/2 stars but tending towards 2. Sorry guys! read more

I haven't been living in Kelowna for long, so it has been very trial and error figuring out where to get food! This was the first Indian place I have tried in Kelowna and I LOVED IT! I have only gotten takeout, but both times the staff has been friendly, everything has gone smoothly with the orders, and the food was great! Of course, it would always be nicer to have just a liiiittle bit more meat in the dishes that you are paying $12+ for, but that is nothing different from the dozens of Indian places I have tried. The dishes we had, butter chicken and prawn curry were very good. Rice portions are a bit small. Nice pleasant space. We advise to only do take out or go somewhere else because of the following. We came early evening and we were initially the only customers. While we were eating several other customers came in without masks although it said at the door to wear one. None of the people who picked up food for take out did not wear masks either. The waitress had this pathetic clear plate in front of her mouth which does not do anything for our protection. We felt very vulnerable and frustrated and it is places like this that contribute to people catching covid and possibly dying and the government having to close restaurants again if cases keep rising. It is places like this that need to be shut down instead of a blanket shut down. We suspect that the owner/staff do not believe that a pandemic is going on. read more

The best Indian food I have had ANYWHERE in my life! I order take out from here at least once a week religiously and it's always ready within 20 minutes. They always remember exactly what my order is! I brought my mother here to try Indian food for the first time on a super busy weekend and had a table within 5 minutes. This restaurant really left a positive impression of my visit to Kelowna. As we were strolling the streets of downtown looking for a decent meal, we stumbled into this place that looked interesting even from the outside - those purple lights definitely catch the eye. Once inside, we were immediately welcomed by the staff. A waitress proceeded to seat us and a few minutes later came back to see if we had any questions (As a side note, one thing I found strange about this place is that it is the first time I see pork dishes listed on an Indian food menu. Not my style indeed, but I wasn't bothered by it either). We ordered meat dinner for two, which included curried lamb and butter chicken. The curries, rice and butter chicken were delicious, and so was the naan bread and the gulab jamun that accompanied the meal for dessert. The portions are very generous, we were full (very full!) after the meal. Our amazing dinner and service came for a very reasonable price - about $40 bucks for the meal for two. In any case, I'd rate as follows: Ambience, 5 stars (quite, intimate restaurant), decoration 5 stars (loved the lighting that changes colour), service 5 stars (the waitress was very attentive and made excellent recommendations). Poor service. While the food is good and I would rate it a 3.5/5, the service is terrible. I tried to order delivery yesterday but they don't deliver until after 5:00 and it was 4:40. They said they couldn't take my order bcs a different company is in charge of delivery and that company had to take it. So, I had to call back. When 5:00 finally rolls around each time I selected option 2 on for delivery I got a busy signal or got disconnected. After 3 tries I called the main restaurant. Apparently the delivery company was having issues with their phones. Instead of taking my order and dealing with the problem themselves they asked me to call the delivery company directly. So, I did and they acted like they had no idea what I was talking about regarding placing an order for Dawett. So, I called dawett again and they asked me to call the delivery service back after 5 minutes. So, I did and was finally able to place my order (which then took an hour to arrive). I can understand having telephone problems but you shouldn't make your customers work that hard to give you their money. Such a frustrating experience. Regarding the food, while it's good the portions are very small. Most saucy dishes come with a ton of sauce and very little meat. read more

Typical indian food with nothing necessarily noteworthy about it. It was a great place to eat years ago, and I've gone back more than I should have hoping it will get better, but in fact I leave with more disappointment eat time I go there. The service is horrendous, there kitchen and bar is limited and the last time we are dinner there, we were charged twice for the same crummy meal.
