Watching planes take off from Peter O. Knight airport while out for a walk

Nice wide trail up off of the road makes a great, safe option for family walks and bike rides. Just make sure to bring sunscreen because there is only a short stretch of shade over by the Sea Basin. I love this trail because it goes right past the Peter O. Knight airport runway and you can watch the planes take off and land, AND it also goes right by the Davis Islands Yacht Club so you get to watch the sailboats too. If it's a REALLY good day, you may even get to see the dolphins playing out in the bay.

This is really a great stretch of road, grass and sidewalks to take in a run or just have a quiet time taking a walk. There is plenty of parking if you are not an Island resident. The air is good and fresh. No smell from the tides or car exhaust. Plenty of things to look at. The beautiful new construction houses and the old time original houses, the grassy areas where dogs and kids play, people sitting by the water reading or doing yoga, the small airport, the dog park, the beach....and so much more. Park benches dedicated by families or businesses along the stretch of land to the end of the island. At places along the trail, cars, bikers, and joggers share the road. Obviously, cars need to be watched for as they have some open road and no stop signs or speed bumps so they tend to exceed the limits. The trail stretches most of the way to the top of the Island where it is much more commercialized but then where else can you get land and sea within 2 miles and great views of south Tampa?

Wow! This place is beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing. Great place for a picnic or reading a good book in a hammock. If you have a dog, it's a great walking spot.

Trail ends at the airport but you can keep riding all the way to the yacht club.

Nice trail that runs along the water and near the airport on Davis Island. There are multiple parking areas, grassy areas to play with pets or picnic, shaded benches and picnic tables, and even a working water fountain if you need to refill. There are a few tight turns and road crossings so be mindful of vehicles and other trail users. If you keep going on the road past the airport there's a dog beach and a people beach as well as the Davis Island Yacht Club. Davis Islands is becoming one of my favorite places to bike, it's just a little tricky to go back and forth from Bayshore if you're not comfortable riding on the road (being on the road is fine...it's the sidewalk connections that are awkward).

I've been running on the trail for two years! What I love about the trail is it close to work. I can leave my job and run the trail all the way to the Davis Island Yacht Club and back and get 6 miles done. The route is quite scenic. You run along the water and see the houses on Davis Island, airplanes landing and taking off at Peter O'Knight Airport, rowers and sailboats on Hillsborough Bay, people playing and relaxing in Seaplane Basin and dogs in Davis Island Dog Beach. The run is relaxing and easy on the knees and hips since you are running on asphalt and not concrete. Great run after work.

Beautiful Davis Island bike trail . Highly recommend and can't wait to return !

The nature center has a bathroom and a bit of information, but all the displays were empty, including the outdoor one that allegedly used to have a tortoise. There are canoes to rent if you're into that. Overall, it was a nice, uncrowded park to spend some time outdoors.

The center is currently closed due to Covid but the bathrooms are open. From what I could tell, on our mad dash to the bathroom and distance viewing, the displays are informative and well done. I'd love to return when it is safe to and take a look. The park has three trails that are part of the spree. We hiked the Bobcat Trail since it includes the boardwalk. The trail travels for about a half mile through trees and over dusty shells. Then it connects to the boardwalk. This was by far the best part. We walked along the beautiful, tree lined water, getting up close and personal with a bunch of small black crabs. We scanned the water for manatees but were not lucky to find any. The trail ends back at the nature center. We climbed the back steps to the top level and caught a great view of the river and the distant city. After the hike we hit up the playground for a few minutes. This is always my kids' favorite part. We also stopped off at the butterfly garden which was pretty active on this day. The park was in great shape, the bathrooms were clean, there were lots of people around doing various park things. Canoeing, kayaking, hiking, nature hunting and playing on the playground are just some of the things available at your fingertips here. So glad we visited! Can't wait to return to check out the other trails.

There are plenty of shade trees, and there are a few areas to picnic as well as different playground areas if you feel one is too crowded for your little one. We went to the larger playground area with my grandson, and he loved it. There are swingsets for all ages and abilities, which is very nice for all. The pirate ship has a great musical area as most kids like to bang on things that they can control the sounds. There are plenty of open areas to play ball or just run from tree to tree like the squirrels. My only complaint is that the park could be a little better maintained for trash. There was random garbage that people should have thrown away, but they didn't, so it made the park look a little unkempt. Parking is plentiful but not in abundance in any one area, so be prepared to park and walk to the playground on a busy weekend or after school.

We rented a "small" shelter that had 24 person capacity. An all day rental was about $27, a bargain. The park is pretty big with multiple areas where you can park, so make sure you look at a park map to get an idea of where you should park to be closest to where you want to go. The playground looked like a lot of fun, but our shelter was closer to the tennis courts, and the kids ended up just running up and down the hill, which was fine with me! The area looked well-maintained, and the shelters were in better shape than the picnic shelters in most of the South Tampa parks.
