First off, in the interest of full disclosure I should say that I'm David of David the Locksmith. So I can't swear to the objectivity of this review. If my friends and family were to list my faults, they'd likely start by saying that I'm cheap and that I'm impatient. I'll cop to that. Fortunately, those qualities make me good at my job, because I do my best to be the kind of locksmith that I'd want to hire -- inexpensive and fast to arrive. Now, I'm not saying that I'm the fastest worker you'll find -- I've been known to take my time to get things right -- but I do generally arrive pretty quickly. I'd never want to get so busy that I couldn't do a good job every time. Oftentimes while I'm on the phone with a customer, I plug in the address into my GPS and read off what it says about the expected length of the trip. I like to be honest about my likely arrival time. If I'm too far away to offer a customer a service that s/he'll be fully satisfied with, well then maybe that job would best go to another locksmith. I don't have any boat payments to make. I also dislike destroying perfectly good equipment. At the time of writing this, I can say that I've never drilled out a working lock merely because I didn't have the key. If you're in a terrible hurry it can be done, but it's not my preference. I also prefer not to throw metal into landfills. If someone had to tear open a mountainside to collect the zinc and copper to make the brass that went into a lock, I'd rather use that lock than toss it into a permanent pile of trash. I'm not a zealot about these issues, though. I just like to conserve when practical. And my pricing is reasonable and transparent. I usually don't do any work without my customers knowing ahead of time what it's going to cost. Since I enjoy my job, I don't feel the need to charge through the nose for the work I do. Plus, I don't mind eating non-organic produce, so my personal expenses stay pretty low. Having said all that, I feel fairly confident in stating that I would hire me. read more

David is the only locksmith you'll ever need. We emailed back and forth quite a bit while I explained what was needed (a new deadbolt and handle) and sent a picture. After seeing the picture he pointed out that the existing handle was pretty nice -- he suggested I keep it and just add a deadbolt. I appreciated his honesty and expert opinion whereas others would have taken my money to do the unnecessary work! He arrived on time, was courteous and polite, and genuinely served my best interests. I watched as he repeatedly made adjustments to make sure the lock fit and function was exactly right. He happily installed a new backplate when I asked at no extra charge. Finally he swept up the dust left by his drill and left the site clean and neat. The whole experience was refreshing -- David is pleasant and cares deeply about the quality of his work rather than squeezing people for extra money. I was looking for a locksmith to change out a worn lock. I ran into many scams... so all of you out there, please be careful. If you don't get a straight forward estimate, don't have them to come to your place. I got David's name from Yelp which has great reviews. Since my job is very simple, David offered to walk me through the last step removing the lock for free. I graciously declined because I believe helping others to make an honest living. We agreed on a fair price. David showed up on time and changed out the locks swiftly. When it came to the time to write David a check, he told me a price which I thought $10 more than we agreed on the phone. Since David was nice and quick, I paid without questioning. I got a text from David couple days later stating that he mischarged me $10. Not only David is nice and reliable, he got integrity. I've locked my keys in my car three times, and have had three quite different experiences. David the Locksmith is a real person with a real business. On top of that he charges amazing rates! I've been charged well over $100 before to unlock my car, and I can see anyone having prices better than David's prices (and being able to make a living). I've had to call a locksmith to my home once before as well, and I ended up with another charge that seemed inflated, and the guy I found had a number and listing online that couldn't be found again a few days later. Working with a locksmith that is a local person with a legitimate business is important to me. I expect to move in a few months and I'm going to call David to re-key my home for sure. read more

It was a dark and chilly night, the glow of the slowing fading flashlight revealed keys hanging from the ignition. To our rescue came David The Locksmith. David was fantastic, timely and very friendly. He showed up sooner than expected. He got to work quickly and explained what he wanted to attempt on our car. I brought a broken lock/latch from an antique armoire in pieces to David The Locksmith. David said for me to leave it with him so he could look it over and see if he could repair it. Two hours later, he called to say it was fixed. He fashioned some missing springs that were missing. Mind you - this lock/latch is at least 150 years old! I picked it up and replaced it in the armoire. It fit like a glove and all mechanisms worked perfectly. His fee was very reasonable. I am writing this review to let all that read this of the outstanding service and expertise provided by David The Locksmith. This is the type of service provider that deserves your business. I locked myself out of my condo and called David at 9:00 PM on a Friday night. He told me how long it would take him to get to my place and quoted a price of $85 (I was expecting more than twice that, given how late it was). He showed up when he said he would and charged exactly as much as he had said. Once he arrived, it only took a few minutes to get in. I tried to tip him but he wouldn't accept it. He seems like a nice guy, but, of course, I didn't meet him for very long. Punctual, honest, competent, friendly, and well-priced. What more do you want in a locksmith? I hope I don't lock myself out again, but there's no question that I'll call David if I do. read more

David is super easy to work with and extremely fair when quoting prices. In my experience, locksmiths are one of those businesses that can capitalize greatly in a supply and demand situation. Like movie theater popcorn is eighty times what a person should be paying for a cheaply made snack, so is having a guy spend two minutes to pop your car door then ask for upwards of a hundred and fifty bucks. But David does not take advantage of this type of situation like most. He is very fair. The only problem is that there is only one of him! read more

I called Dave because my key to the mailbox wasn't working and I needed to get my mail. Dave was in between jobs and was about 20 minutes away. He came right over and tried to do a few things before having to replace the lock. I then asked him to look at my front door for an estimate to replace it. He did some adjusting and oiling and it works like a charm. His prices are very reasonable and he only charged me a few dollars more for the front door. After accidentally locking a friend's antique cabinet with my skeleton key, but unable to unlock it again, David came to the rescue. He told me on the phone that he has acquired 2 boxes of old skeleton keys, and he wasn't kidding! In just 10 minutes or less, he had it unlocked. Such a relief! Nice guy.
