Dr. Butcher is a highly recognized and award winning pediatrician in Newport News. He doesn't do it…read morealone and has a strong staff with other providers with amazing reputations. Dr. Butcher is known for being a caring physician and when I met him I could tell this. He makes his patients feel comfortable with a cozy office atmosphere and a soft voice. Each of his exam rooms are themed differently. Harry Potter, Sesame Street, Mr. Rodger's and lots of Disney which is Dr. Butcher's favorite place to vacation. I also got the chance to meet his wife Valerie who also works at the office. She was friendly, smiled and gave me a tour. When considering a pediatrician they are not all alike, choose wisely. I would recommend Pediatrics at Oyster Point.

I cannot tell you guys enough how obsessed I am with my children's pediatric office. After going to…read morethe absolute worst pediatrician and being terrified I'd run into the same issue, this place has been A blessing from God. The staff is literally 20/10.. my kids LOVE going to the doctors now. Dr. Mishra is the bomb as is Leslie Carroll. They always hear me out, they do not gaslight me or make me feel crazy when I've over googled the situation. The rooms are decorated like every kids favorite movie/book.(our fave is the Jesus room yall know we rocking the long way with JC) And I'm just beyond grateful I found this place. If you're in the 757 and need a pediatrician, this is it.. Thank you guys so much for everything you do, and loving on my babies the way you do! Cannot recommend yall enough.

My co pay is $25 and my other two children were just with me at the visit but not being examined. They refused to see us unless I paid a triple co-pay. Unlawful! Then we were dismissed from the practice because I got upset and vocal about it. We were not informed of the dismissal. In addition, the Newport News health inspector has been contacted, saw dried blood days old on the floor when at this practice in December 2015. I was also told to "rub my child down with Crisco" for a skin condition. I was told it really helps the skin not dry out. Just for the record, the below is the appropriate and legal method for a practice to dismiss someone from their practice. Statutes that matter In very broad terms, a practice can legally extricate from a physician-patient relationship if they do the following: * give the patient adequate notice in writing preferably by certified mail, return receipt requested (30 days is generally acceptable); * give the patient a brief explanation why you are terminating the relationship; * document notification and the reasons for termination in the patient's medical record; * help the patient find another physician; * offer to transfer medical records to a newly-designated physician upon signed patient authorization to do so; and * continue to provide care if the patient remains in need of care. Physicians take an oath to always act in the best interest of their patients, and they are expected to abide by it. In fact, doctors, unlike patients, face legal and ethical restrictions before they may end relationships with patients. Your doctor has both ethical and legal obligations to provide services to you as long as you need them. If your doctor does not appropriately end the relationship, he or she could be liable for a claim of patient abandonment. According to the American Medical Association (AMA), abandonment is defined as "the termination of a professional relationship between physician and patient at an unreasonable time and without giving the patient the chance to find an equally qualified replacement." We were never given any such chance and at no time did the practice help us or assist us in finding another physician.

One time, a nurse drove 40 minutes to came in on her day off (a Saturday) just to give my daughter a shot of antibiotics because (like most kids) she refuses to swallow pills. That nurse never tried to make me feel bad about that either. She happily did it because she cares so much about my daughter and she is committed to helping sick children in need. Based on our experiences with Dr. Vanden Hoek, we believe she genuinely cares about the kids and the parents. She is always honest and upfront about treatment options. She will tell you about the expensive medication and/or treatment option and its efficacy and effectiveness. She will also provide you with other available options and their efficacy. Apart from a few exceptions, Dr. Vanden Hoek will always let YOU the parent make the final decision when it comes to your child. Bottom line, our 8-year-old AUTISTIC daughter actually LIKES to see her pediatrician. Even after all of the shots they had to give her, she likes to go because of the trust and the sense of family that has been built over the years. I highly recommend this place.

My 2 year old was crying and she asked " has she ever been tested for autism" "does she cuddle ? Because kids with autism do not " the office itself never smells clean. It's old in general. I took my daughter in for a sick visit yesterday ( wasn't seen until a hour after her appointment time) while in the waiting room, a nurse and front desk associate were arguing, loudly , with one another. I left and immediately called tricare to be switched to select. I'd rather pay copays and be able to go to CHKD then to EVER Step foot here again. Edited to add: I just took my baby to get a second opinion and she has a double ear infection. Yesterday your office told me to just give her Tylenol and her fever would clear up . SMH
