We decided to visit David Bates Memorial Park to scout out a free primitive campsite for our camping trip this summer. It turns out that it's not free anymore, but that's ok because the location more than makes up for that! It's also only $10/night with the option for a one time payment of $100 for the entire season, which applies to all of the primitive campsites in Hardin County.
The entire campground is peaceful, serene, and tucked away from any road noise. There are three dedicated sites with fire pits and a boat launch. The sites are spread far away from one another and there will be plenty of shade once the trees start blooming. The grass was already lush and green. Down by the boat launch, there are plenty of areas to fish, as well as a little sand bar for relaxing without the worry of swimming. There is also a non-potable water station. This is definitely the ideal location for a peaceful camping trip away from the world. We can't wait to camp here! read more
