Some have signed adoption consent forms promising they won't come here. ? I've yet to have a bad encounter. Most people are friendly. Some not as attentive as others, granted. Why be on your phone in here the whole time? All the dogs are adorable and make my day. It's beautiful here. I've added tons of photos. Just bring your purse with you. No valuables left in car. Leash your dog to and from the parking lot as the road/highway nearby is merciless if your unleashed dog goes after something that way. It's a dirt lot so I drive in and out slowly as to not create huge dust storms. There is a large garbage bin up front. There is also a single, large porta potty, thankfully, after the long walks but bring your own hand sanitizer. And doggie poop bags.

It is…read moreessentially a large gravel covered lot with a few trees and blades of grass that get peed and pooed on every now and then. In season it has a water fountain for you, kids and a ground level spout for your furry one. As to expect there are people who coddle their dogs a little too much and pick them up extremely often who are likely broadcasting that they helicopter parent their children as well. But for the most part the dogs are allowed to go free and when good owners are around you can tell that the dogs pretty much police themselves. My dog has not only socialized well in the parks friendly atmosphere but met some great friends that he can play and wrestle with and tire himself out for good value on my time. It is a hidden gem for anyone who owns a dog downtown and wants them to have to interact with other dogs because it just insn't big enough to hide anywhere. If your dog is in there off leash it will play the sniffing game even if it growls and nips at other dogs most are well mannered enough to walk on or even try again in a few minutes to see if the anti-social dog is ready to come around.. In only three months I have seen mine and other dogs come out of their shells because of this park. Highly recommend if the pits are too far of a drive or walk.

It has a huge fenced in area where dogs can go off leash. It also has 2 baseball diamonds, a basketball court, a playground with swings and play structures, a splash pad, some open green space, and some wooded areas along a trail. Some of the trail is paved and some of it is unpaved. It's about 1.5 kilometres to circle the whole park. There are 2 separate parking lots connected to the park. One is off Island Park Drive and the other is off Sebring Avenue. It's a nice place right in the city, but when you're in the park you feel like you've escaped the hustle and bustle of the city ;)

Regardless, the experience of enjoying a walk in and around the woods with your canine best friend is well worth it. Of course, no matter what dog park you go to there will always be people who aren't sensible and have problematic dogs that shouldn't be there - but the great thing is, you just keep on walking down a different trail, instead of having to leave the whole park. The Pit is a very accepting place - all breeds welcomed, you won't get avoided or scowled at for bringing your bully breed. So many different breeds that you'll see every time you go - today I saw a Cane Corso, Newfie, a couple Vizslas and a Chow Chow - not very common breeds around here! Overall, excellent place, well maintained, clean and just a great location. Strongly recommended if you have a social dog that loves to go for a nice run!

There are also benches, but no picnic tables. There's a little gazebo that provides shade but no chairs or tables underneath, I guess you have to bring your own. Street parking only. There's no signage to say it's Evergreen Park, which I thought was a bit odd, but this was the second park in the area that I saw within a few weeks with missing signage. Maybe someone stole the sign and/or it was in the process of being replaced when I was there.

The forest theme is apparent with the addition of forest critters all around the equipment. There are plenty of slides and swings to choose from. There is also a sandbox. There are benches to sit on and a very short loop trail going into the woodsy area. I went through the trail easily with our stroller and it was nice to have that green space so close by. The trail will look especially nice with the fall colours or in the summer when the trees are lush again. I would have given this park 5 stars if there was a water component to it for the hot weather, but I didn't notice any water equipment.
