    Dave's #4: 1 Slider with Fries (hot)
    Lailah J.

Wayne, NJ - simple, laser focused menu, and aren't those usually the best? If you're looking for anything other than chicken tenders, move along. But I'm here for one thing and one thing only, Nashville hot chicken! The spice level varies from "no spice" to "reaper," and though I didn't find the reaper to live up to its pepper's namesake (to me more like a medium), the chicken tenders/sandwiches are quite delicious and flavorful. While I'm not running to come back, the food is perfectly solid. The tenders come with a slice of white bread, and the sandwiches on a bun. Their crinkle fries reminds me of Shake Shack's.

Nice and chill place to get some delicious chicken. Since it was my first time, I decided to try the Light Mild seasoning. The chicken was moist and juicy, and the spice was just the right amount of heat if you're looking for just a touch. Place wasn't too loud which I appreciated. Service was quick and friendly. Will try the mild next time!

Manager was very hospital and came and asked every table how everything was and if we needed anything. Love that the chicken is halal and we can find daves literally anywhere we travel. This specific spot is great with customer service so we keep going back. Excellent food btw! The sliders and tenders are both very good.

If you're chasing heat and flavor, Dave's Hot Chicken in Wayne absolutely delivers! We went bold and ordered Dave's #3 (1 tender + 1 slider with fries) at Reaper spice level, plus mini sliders, fries, and a Coke to balance the fire. And yep you actually have to sign a waiver to try the Reaper. That alone should tell you what kind of heat you're dealing with. The chicken? Insanely good. Juicy inside, crispy outside, and that Reaper spice hits like a truck in a delicious, tear-inducing way. The slider was loaded and flavorful, and even the mini sliders had that same punch. Fries were crispy, perfectly seasoned, and made the whole meal come together. The vibe inside is modern and chill, service was fast, and the team was super friendly (they even gave us a heads-up about the Reaper heat). If you're in the Wayne area and up for a serious flavor bomb this place is a must. Just don't forget to bring your spice tolerance... and maybe a milkshake.

Of all the hot chicken options that I've tried in the NE, I'd rank this around mid pack. Its still really good, but not the best IMO. The chicken is on smaller size, but then again the price is also lower. I ordered just a sandwich and was a little hungry after. I prefer places that have a more substantial piece of chicken. The chicken itself was flavorful, as were the various toppings that they added. Parking lot was crazy but that was likely related to the holiday.

Came here with 2 buddies to try hot chicken. We were able to order a tray of tender. we got mild, extra hot, hot, and reaper. We were in a let's hang out and see where the day takes up mood. We started the extra hot and it was spicy. So, spicy that we were going bad to the soda machine for more soda. But the spice was bearable. Then we went with mild to get back to reality and cool our tastes buds. Finally we went for the reaper and it's definitely spicy. The front doesn't hit as hard as the extra hot but the afterburn lingers very hard. we were dunking fries and the tender in the mayo sauce. We even ate the sliced bread with the mayo sauce too. The tenders were big portions of white meat. these are not Tyson tenders. Glad we tried. Id come back for either mild of hot only. this is a fàst casual atmosphere but the table are close together. If you do go Reaper, people may see and hear you cry.

It's definitely happening at DHC. Dave's Hot Chicken. I usually go with the 2 slider meal that comes with crinkled seasoned fries. Big chunky juicy breast of chicken topped with coleslaw and that ooo so delicious sauce. You have your choice of how spicy u want the chicken breasts to be. Interior is spacious with plenty of tables n chairs. Place is usually full and there is a constant revolving pickup orders for customers. Service has been consistent throughout the different locations I've visited. I'm a regular.

    Slider and Tender (Really Hot)

Unpopular opinion... the hot chicken trend is fun, but Dave's does not live up to the hype. It was packed full of people when we arrived on a rainy day. This location was a bit tight but the decor was cool. My son ordered chicken tenders--medium heat with an Oreo shake. He loved his shake but said the tenders lacked flavor. He mentioned this before I tasted mine. I ordered a slider with a tender--extra hot. I have to agree with him about the chicken lacking flavor. The spices were perfect, but it was missing salt to bring out those spices more. My wife ordered a slider--hot. She loved hers, so who knows. They all came with fries, however, the fries could have been cooked a bit more. Also the sliders could use more slaw. Crinkle fries are hard to get right in my opinion. Dave's sauce was just mayo and ketchup. I don't get it. Maybe someone knows something I don't. Rooster's in Montclair was far better.

Unfortunately, I am not a fan of this place. I'm in the minority because there was a line almost out the door. It gets very busy, so be prepared for that should you decide to visit. The seasoning on the chicken is overpowering! It's just way too much for my liking. It was fried and presented well but just didn't live up to the hype. The fries, pickles, and dipping sauce were pretty good so I just ate that. Another strike was the prices. They were way overpriced for what they had to offer. I paid almost $60 for 3 small meals and one drink! We each had one small chicken slider, one chicken tender, and fries! That is the main reason I will not be returning. It's located by Willowbrook Mall in a very busy shopping plaza. The staff were friendly but I felt rushed when I placed my order. There are plenty of tables should you decide to dine in. They have bottled and fountain soda available. Drinks are not included w/ your combo.

    This was $14! No bueno!

First time here, after ordering it took about 8 minutes. I waited to eat inside. All the empty tables were dirty with food particles, none had been wiped at 12:30. The chicken and fries were hot and fresh. I had the lite-mild. The chicken had too much powdery spice on it. I think the chicken is fried, then doused in the spice. It did not have much flavor considering all the powdery spice on it. The fries were very average. $13. for 2 pieces of chicken and fries, no drink. I would not return.

Uffffff - This is kitchen is: "muy delicioso" I have been dying to try this kitchen ever since it opened up and unfortunately the line was always out the door. Well, today was my lucky - and I have to say that it was worth the wait. The flavor in the chicken is unique and have some cajun flavor to it. I only had one slider (after I finished I realized I could have gotten for that second one) but it was delicious. The combination of the cole slaw, pickle and that chicken, is an explosion of flavor in your mouth. Love it!!!! I am definitely coming back. The decor is super nice and clean and while eating my sandwich I was inspired by the decor to use the same color pallet in my basement. The fries are amazing too. Kind of remind me of in-and-out fries. Next time I am going to for that real spice. Ordered mild because I had to drive after.

The fries are out of this world! Such a cool spot-- thought two sliders wouldn't be big enough, but my goodness one was enough just for lunch! Chickens a bit thick for the slider bun, but the heat and taste is there. Dave's sauce is 10/10b

This is my second review of this establishment. In my initial review, I had issues with the burger…read morebeing overly soft, the fries being unseasoned and cold, and an unpleasant oil taste. However, this review is not about that experience. Let's start with the service. I placed my order with John, who was pleasant and easy to deal with. After speaking with the owner on Yelp, he suggested that some of my original issues may have been due to the timing and the fact that my order was delivered, which could have affected the quality. Taking that into account, I ordered the same item again. This time, the service was good, and I got home with the food piping hot. The issue I previously had with the burger does seem to have been caused by delivery time, as it was much better this time around. Unfortunately, the fries were just as disappointing. They were cold as soon as I opened the packaging, though at least they didn't have the old oil taste this time. Instead, it was very obvious they were frozen fries--confirmed by the presence of a plastic bag of frozen fries. They were again unseasoned, not even lightly salted, and somehow managed to be both cold and burnt at the same time. One thing that concerned me was the staffing. There were four employees present, but only two seemed to actually be working. John appeared to be leading things and taking orders, and there was someone cooking. One employee in a beanie seemed mostly idle, though I overheard something about deliveries, so I assume he may have been the delivery driver. Another employee, who looked around my age, didn't appear to be doing anything at all. That was a bit concerning. Overall, I updated my original rating from 2 stars to 3 stars. It was fine, but nothing impressive. If I were rating it out of 10, I'd give it a 4/10. The burger was good in terms of softness, but the onion rings and bacon lacked the crunch I was expecting. They were mostly soggy, though still an improvement compared to my first experience. The burger patty itself, without toppings, tasted dense and brick-like. If the fries had been good, I honestly would've rated this closer to a 7/10. However, I had to dock several points because I don't understand how fries can be both burnt and cold at the same time, nor how the quality managed to decline further between visits--from tasting like old oil to tasting unmistakably frozen and completely unseasoned. If I'm in the area, I might stop by for the burger alone, but even then I'd have to be in a very specific mood. The most disappointing part is that the owner personally encouraged me to give it another try. While one issue from my original visit was resolved, the fries somehow got worse. I know I'm ranting about the fries, but honestly--how do you mess up fries this badly?

Everything is stacked right, it holds together better than most, and the flavor balance is perfect. You get crispy, savory, melty, salty, all in one bite. Every time. I drive about 12 miles to get here which says a lot. It also happens to fall right between home and work so it's become my go-to detour on Fridays. Early lunch stop or mid-shift reset, it never disappoints. Portions are legit and they don't skimp on fillings. You're full but not destroyed. The spot has that Jersey counter-shop feel. Order, grab a seat if there's one open, or take it to go and wreck it in your car. Either way the food travels well and the quality doesn't drop off. There is limited space inside to enjoy the freshest bite but tables revolve quickly. If you're into fat sandwiches or never had one done right, this is the place. Real ingredients, no shortcuts, every sandwich feels like someone actually cared about stacking it right. Easily five stars. Worth the drive. Worth the mess.

There is a small little parking lot that can fit 4-5 cars right off the main road. Inside was decorated with cute Christmas decor, and the domestic violence scene from Godfather Part 1 casually playing on the TV while I'm trying to eat my food. Good variety of options of appetizers, small shared plates, pizza, fresh pasta, and entrées to choose from our group decided to split the popular pizza. Then everyone offended for themselves - our table ordered the gnocchi with pesto and chicken Milanese, chicken parmigiana with penne, Arancini, and the "focaccia"/house garlic bread. The Arancini was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft and luscious on the inside. The pizza was a perfect sweet and savory combo of burrata, prosciutto, and balsamic glaze. The pesto was a bit thin and ate a little soupier than I prefer. Buyer beware with the focaccia - although it's called focaccia, it's also listed under the pizzas so it was served thin and crispy like a pizza rather than thick and fluffy like we had been expecting. I would absolutely return again to try all the other dishes, especially the shared plates, different pizzas, and other fresh pasta offerings.
