I had a biopsy done in Monroe on July 17 that became infected. I immediately called the office and was not taken seriously. Sepis set in and it took weeks before I could have a Mohs procedure done elsewhere. The reason that I am posting this today, is that I got my stitches out today from my long awaited Mohs. 4 months is a LONG time. This should have been a simple procedure, but it was botched. The Monroe office has 2 PA's, no doctor. I know that PAs are well-trained, but they are not the same as seeing a doctor. read more

New to NC & new Darst Dermatology patients (Aug '24), my husband & I were delighted with *office staff-- ease of scheduling 1st appointment, no long wait to get seen, exemplary customer service in-person/phone & efficiency emailing us forms, etc. *Dr. Marc Darst is exemplary/genuine connecting with patients and (1st visit) biopsied 2 skin cancer suspicious places on my husband, put him at ease with his words/manner & biopsied that day. Results were positive (1 basal cell, the other squamous cell). A few months ago moved from MD so needed surgeon referrals and he gave us info during that visit + his office staff followed-up. I noticed something *new on me just 3 weeks later, called the office and got same day appointment. Not something missed in 1st visit a month ago, literally something that just surfaced last week, and got same day appointment (practice has several practitioners)! Practice offers numerous skin products (NO sales pitch), purchased some because of the quality, feedback I got, and liked having to ask ... I hope sharing that I'm an RN adds weight to this 5-star rating! read more

Infection on face after awful procedure heee. Missed a lot of school & so much unnecessary discomfort. Staff was abrupt, dismissive and unhelpful. After several visits here to try to resolve, we went to another Dermatologist and situation was handled & resolved professionally and with respect. read more

I had a couple of moles that were making me nervous, so much so that I couldn't sleep one night thinking about them, so I called the office of Darst Dermatology in the morning and they fit me in same day as a new patient. I suffer from anxiety, and was thinking the worst. A sweet young lady took me back to the room where she asked how I was doing, and I started crying saying I was nervous. She was incredibly sweet, offered to hold my hand, and reassured me they were going to take care of me. I saw the PA, Bill, and his PA assistant. They were both fantastic. They took the time to reassure me through my anxiety, gently did a thorough full scan and communicated what he found as well as answered all of my questions. None of my moles were of concern but they educated me on what to look out for and how to monitor them. I left feeling so relieved, and I am incredibly thankful for the entire staff. Today I had an appointment to have a mole removed. When I called to book the appointment I asked about their mole removal process. It was here that I was told it would be cut out, stitched up, and the mole extracted would be sent for a biopsy. I went to my visit nervous but happy the mole would be gone. I couldn't have been more wrong. I can not complain regarding Dr. Darst bedside manner he was very nice however my questions were not answered and my needs were not met. He shaved off my mole removing the portion that was lifted however still visibly showing a flush mole on my skin. When I inquired about why the mole wasn't cut off as described on the phone I was told because I was not overweight I did not have the extra skin needed for stitches. This I knew was a complete lie. The room was set before I entered with only a needle and razor. I can not be more disappointed. I paid $200 to have a mole removed, however this was not the case. I still have the mole, am out of $200 and back to the drawing board seeking an expert who is able to assist. The first picture is before the mole removal appointment. Be careful with billing! I was self pay and paid the full amount at the time of visit. Completely routine. Then I received a bill for more charges that could not be explained to me. The office said the Doctor goes in and changes the criteria & I was expected to pay for the services. Well, I did not even see the doctor and you cannot tell what changed! It's very disappointing and I will not be back. *I wrote several reviews, but they keep getting deleted! So hopefully you all are seeing all the reviews! read more

Dr. Darst advertises he specializes in Discoid Lupus. As a new patient, he spent 10 minutes with me knowing nothing about discoid lupus. Charging $200 for the visit. There are many other dermatologist in Charlotte that are much better than Dr. Darst. read more

Dr Darst is incredibly attentive, I have never had a staff and Dr be so helpful and thorough. He helped me with a skin issue that had been misdiagnosed previously (Malesszia/tinea of the face), and also was very patient when I tried Botox for the first time. He took his time with me, and even called me later that night to see how the first time after injections were feeling/if I had any reaction. Everything turned out great, and I continued to go back for more Botox treatments. He absolutely is very detail oriented and makes small adjustments - I was very afraid of getting that "frozen" look, and it was absolutely not even close! I couldn't be happier with the results, and I fully trust his decision making. read more

Dr. Darst was my Dermatologist for 5+ years. On 9/15/21 I met with him for a review of my skin. I have had both Basil and Squamous cells on my face, head and back. My wife and I were in an exam room awaiting Dr. Darst. He arrived with his assistant Ms.Reyes) and a college student. He introduced her as Ms. Gandhi and that she would be watching the procedure. I was in the procedure chair, facing both Dr. Darst and his assistant. He looked over my skin and was concerned about a pre-cancerous spot on my back. We were in conversation when I felt needles numbing my back and was shocked to know that Ms. Gandhi was doing the surgical procedure and placing the bandaging on my back. Dr. Dast never looked at my back and proceeded to leave the room. My wife and I were in shock! We went directly home and had to immediately change the dressing, since I was bleeding heavily.This went on throughout the night. I tried to reach Dr, Darst but he has no one covering his calls after hours. I tried reaching him through his website and final after being up all night I got a call back from his office and got an immediate meeting with him, since I was in bad shape having lost a lot of blood, since the cut was much to deep. he cauterized me to stop the bleeding and listened to our concerns but offered nothing to us. I made it clear that he would probably lose his license, etc. if I chose to sue him. All I asked for is $800 as a settlement. He has only offered $225 which I refused. He has never followed up on making sure that I properly healed, etc. It took 4 months to recover and now have pain, itching and a scar in that location. Now, I am looking for a strong attorney to sue Dr. Darst. He was paid in full for the operation by my insurer. He deserves to lose his license!!! Dr. Darst...you really saved my skin. I have terrible cystic acne and oily skin issues, and within one appointment, was prescribed the right meds and treatments to where everything has cleared up, and I haven't had a blemish in about a YEAR. (Another doctor in CLT who shall not be named, was so rushed with me, so rude when it came to keeping on schedule...he told me to take a drug that actually could have had long-term side effects, and Dr. Darst saved me by changing up the meds. Phew!) Now, keep in mind, he's not a drug pusher, which I appreciate. I have some eczema that I wanted drugs for, but he recommended some over-the-counter cream, which cleared things up in a jiffy. Honestly, Dr. Darst is way better than other derms I've been to who rush me, or are super late/behind in appointments and keep you waiting. He does like to encourage sunscreen use (a particular brand...but I believe it's b/c he likes it, not necessarily b/c he gets paid to sell it.) and recommends generics when possible. He's not particularly chatty or overly friendly, which is fine. Get in, get help, get out. Feel better. read more

This office is unprofessional, rude, and poorly managed. Dr. Darst might be a fine physician, ( my husband only saw him for a few minutes and the PA did the actual procedure) but having to put up with the inept ladies who run the office was not a good experience. They do not call back when they say they will call, they finally call but have an incomplete report ( Oh, page 2 is missing....) with no acknowledgment that 2 to 3 weeks turned into 4 weeks. All the while you have been nervously waiting on potentially life-changing results. The office manager was uncaring and curt and offered this helpful mantra," All I can do is apologize." I feel to update my review because of what after appeared to be un-helpful, Dr Darst did call me and we spoke about what happened. He suggested Tehran Dr while my daughter was in RI and she has been back to him since. I appreciated the response and glad to see her next visit went much better. I guess everyone has an off day and maybe there was some miscommunication between the two of them. Would definitely not recommend. They left a very unsightly large scar from removing just a tiny (pinhead size) age spot on my arm. Despite following exact care instructions, this scar is permanent and impossible to conceal/cover up. read more

I've been a patient of Darst Dermatology for many years. Recently it seems patents aren't appreciated, the staff is not welcoming or even friendly. An appt was made weeks ago remove a few spots (I specifically mentioned the reason, and planned for it this week while I was off work). A few minutes early, I waited a few minutes for the desk staff but neither of the 3 ladies greeted me. I was welcomed by asking for my insurance card, which was provided. A nurse called my name and brought me back to an exam room but there was no small talk or anything warm, caring or friendly conversation. Direct questions about the visit. Darst was nice but another visit (with another specialist copay) would be required. I only wish the person taking my appointment would have mentioned that as I would have rescheduled soon. It was my intent to have the procedure done this week while on vacation. Misinformed and not aware. For years I've remained a patient for convenience. I don't feel valued or that my concerns are heard. Example: All future appointments were cancelled today, the desk staff were not concerned or attempt to ask questions. Darst is a good doctor. I only wish he would re-evaluate the service of the office and allow more time to listen to patients. I was disappointed today but was not given an opportunity to be heard. Dr. Darst and his staff were very patient and organized. The office was clean and Dr. Darst was very knowledgeable and explained to me what the skin issues were caused by. He also managed to fit in my son in the same visit as my appt. (without rushing us) when he didn't have to see him with his busy schedule-saving me a whole lot of time. My son had a problem that couldn't wait and he seemed to understand how hard it was as a parent to have to wait months to be seen by most dermatologists. I was also surprised how good he was with my son considering it's not solely a "pediatric" office. His humor also distracted my son from the procedure. Made an appointment a month ago. Took the day off work only to be told they aren't in network. I specifically verified when I scheduled this appointment. Adding insult to injury, the receptionist said they get at least 3 people weekly in the same predicament. Someone should address this issue and stop wasting people's time! read more

Be careful of your charges!!!! Paid my bill in full as a self pay, so no insurance. After a few months, I get billed for more charges that were added after the appointment because the doctor decided to change the criteria. I did not see the doctor & it was just a routine visit. After calling the office, they could not explain to me why the criteria was changed. I will not be going back. read more

I went to see Dr Darst for a lesion on my face that I was worried about. I knew the date it appeared. Dr Darst said it was a scar. I told him that wasn't the case, since I knew when it appeared, but he was firm it was fine. It wasn't fine. I went to another dermatologist who biopsied the site and it was basal cell carcinoma. I'm glad I decided to get a second opinion. After this happened I requested a copy of my medical records. When they were mailed to me they had accidently included someone else's medical records in with mine. read more

I had really bad acne and he prescribed me a pill and the acne went away. Everything was great. My acne then returned and we tried to up the dosage of the pill and try a different face wash that I could "only get from his office". That didn't work and then I was told in passing about another cream for my face that again "insurance wouldn't pay for and I would have to pay over $150 out of pocket" to his office to get it. So I went to another practice at that time and she was able to prescribe the medication and another one to help and my face was looking beautiful within 6 weeks. He lost his touch between August 2012 and September 2014. Very rushed and not caring to what your issue is and quick to sell you on a Darst Dermatology product. read more

Incredible service . On time appointments and good follow up on procedures. It is clear that Dr, Darst has a good understanding of the patients needs. This probably is the result of his many years as a general practice physician before going back to school to improve his medical skills and become a dermatologist. I visited Dr. Darst to have a growth looked at, he removed it along with another small one I didn't even notice or was bothering me. I usually never concern myself with the bill as I have a co-pay which I provided at the service. Much later I received a bill for almost $200 with the detailed bill. $1148 was my bill for the two small removals and to analyze. Yes the insurance knocked it down a lot, but my portion was $200, that's probably what it should have been in total under normal circumstances. I guess in todays high cost medical business anyone can charge what they want and whatever insurance doesn't cover your stuck with. Be careful if you have a large deductible plan. I thought their bill was very excessive. I also felt that his staff was not that friendly, which I saw as a theme in many comments. read more

Dr. Darst provided good care to myself and my family for a few years, but I've recently changed dermatologists. This is due to the excessively long wait times I've experienced personally and with my family. These times sometimes exceed one hour. He seems rushed and I know he feels pressured to spend quality time with each patient, but I am unable to continue seeing him because of the wait times. read more

I had a really great experience at Dr. Darst's office when I visited for my acne and acne scarring problems. His staff are very friendly and professional and they even fit me into their schedule at the last minute even though they were really busy (but my schedule is pretty wide open these days). The doctor is friendly and very thorough in his explanations. He didn't try to push any expensive products on me. Even though I have a problem with acne scarring he suggested that I let it heal naturally on its own rather than paying for the pricey products , but he left that decision up to me which I GREATLY appreciate because I hate it when a doctor makes you feel like you need to buy something that isn't necessary. His assistant even gave me some free samples of a sunscreen recommended by the doctor just in case it didn't work well with my skin (I have really sensitive skin). I would highly recommend this place for anyone with skin issues!! read more

Dr. Darst actually listens. Most docs have their hands on the door know ready to run out. He sat down and talked to me about all my skin issues. He also did a great skin exam. He actually checked my feet. I have a history of skin cancer and not one derm has checked my feet during skin exam. He had to do a couple of mole removals and 1 did turn out to be a basil cell cancer. He did an outstanding surgery on my back. His nurse took plenty of time with me to make sure I understood how to take care of my surgery site. The staff is outstanding and very caring. You can tell they love their patients. From the moment I entered the practice I felt I received outstanding care. I highly recommend Dr. Darst to everyone! read more

Unprofessional and inconsiderate. I arrived around 3:45 for a 4:00 appointment time. At 5:05, I was still waiting in the lobby to be seen, so I requested a refund of my copay and made the decision to leave. I also learned the at least 2 other people were there for the same appointment time. I overheard another patient speaking with the staff and expressing his discontentment with his wait time as well (he had arrived at 4:00 for a 4:30 appointment and was finally taken back at 4:50 p.m.) When he explained to the staff that he would be looking for a new dermatologist, he was told to tell that to the doctor because it would have more weight coming from a patient. Ultimately, me and another new patient both decided to leave. The long wait time was not only unprofessional and inconsiderate of patients' time, but also the staff's time, as they were required to stay after hours. Based on this experience, I will not return to this practice, nor would I recommend to anyone else. read more
