On the way out to Bakasyunan Resort we took a slight detour to Daranak Falls. The falls are only about an hour from Manila. They are recessed off the main road and set quite back quite a ways. The access road is fairly narrow w/limited parking. There were some cars, motorized trikes and motorcycles & scooters parked along the narrow road. At some point we needed to park to van that we came in and hike in as the roads got too narrow and congested for a van. When we got there was a small entry fee 50 pesos/approximately $1 it was well worth the fee. As you enter a wood bridge take you across a small creek. The path led us along a small creek w/pools of water w/people laying in & cooling off. As we meandered further up the the path until we saw Daranak Falls. Daranak Falls was really a beautiful spot & a welcome stop along our route. Some of the people planned on spending the day as they were bringing in food to cook on small grills. Unfortunately we didn't spend much time there as we had a predetermined destination & a driver waiting for us. This is a beautiful spot away from the rush. I really want to go to this place since I love chasing waterfalls, apparently the timing was not good. I mean if you want to enjoy the beauty of this falls the abundant water flowing you have to go here probably around August to Ber months. Its summer so expect the place is crowded and the water is not that abundant. But it was nice though. read more

Very popular spot in Tanay! The falls are beautiful and definitely a retreat from the heat. There used to be more water here but maybe I just came at a drier time...if that happens. Either way, a lot of people like to come here to swim, celebrate parties, or just spend some time exploring with family. The entrance fee is 50 pesos (just over 1 USD). There are a lot of different places to explore if you don't want to just swim too. They used to have rock balancing here but they've moved it to make room for more tables and huts. There's lots of stray dogs running around too (but that's not new for the Philippines). Not a bad place to hang out with family or friends! Bring your own food or buy some there. read more

For a lazy weekend, my family decided to head on over to neighboring Rizal for a quick trip to the local waterfalls in the area. Over ten meters tall, our first stop Daranak Falls was a picturesque sight to behold. We went on a weekend, however, and one in the middle of summer at that, so we were but one in hundreds of people flocking to the falls for a refreshing afternoon of swimming. The water was cold, surprisingly clear considering the volume of people visiting, and invigorating, even in summer when it thinned because of the heat. You can opt to either rent a cottage at P300 or just a picnic table for P100, in addition to the P50 entrance fee used to maintain facilities and function as an environmental fee. Either buy some food on the way there or cook some at home, and keep in mind that they're keen on preserving these falls, so plastic cutlery are not allowed. read more
