Dr. Zovich, is a very professional and easy going provider. He is very straightforward and compassionate in his manner. I don't normally post but I wanted to share this experience that I had summer 2016. I had abdominal pains for last 7 years and over 7 doctors dismissed it saying it was in my head or I was faking it for Vicodin. All refused to do any testings or scans. I was referred to Dr. Zovich by my primary for my possible GI issues up in his Atascadero office because his SLO office was "too busy" for new clients. Went to his Atascadero office and shared my history with the dr. He immediately agreed it was in my head, which I told him he needed to do something and not dismiss me. He did an endoscopy 2 weeks later and told me I had mild gastritis and closed my account. This happened around July 2016. In September 2016 the pain became so severe I couldn't eat, was vomiting, had to go to the ER 4 times in 2 weeks. Went to Sierra Vista and French which both places dismissed me with a bad case of indigestion. I got referred to a GI doctor in Santa Maria and he immediately sent me to Marian ER. Why? Because my gallbladder was 4 times it's normal size and about to burst. I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery as well as finding out I had a toxic liver due to medications. If I hadn't argued to be sent to another specialist I would have died due to Dr. Zovich's incompetence. That's not me being dramatic. That's what my current GI doctor, liver doctor at ucla, surgeon, and anesthesiologist have all told me. So don't go to Dr. Zovich if you want to survive and have a life. read more

I agree with all of the review with the 1 star I was happy to get in so quickly, I appreciate that the front staff very nice. But the doctor...I didnt get any answers, diet or stress has nothing to do with my condition when that's all I see on the internet. I got very little answers, felt dismissed when asked questions. I had to ask about follow up at the exam, should I make another app?, we'll call you..no one has called. His nonchalant attitude made me feel like my physical condition was not important. I have gone to another GI they asked tons of questions, asked me to do blood work, exrays and gave me a RX for inflammation. They cared. I have been a patient of Dr. Zovich for over a decade. Throughout that time, he ignored my concerns with chronic diverticulitis. I thought if he disregarded my symptoms, I should ignore them, too. Finally, an ER doctor told me that I had to do something before my intestine ruptured. Only then did Dr. Zovich tell me that I had severe diverticulosis and that yes, I should have surgery. The surgery revealed that scar tissue from the chronic diverticulitis was strangulating a part of my small intestine, and that was part of the reason I had so much pain all the time. I decided to change doctors after my surgery, but this group will not allow a patient to chose their doctor. Although each doctor in this group has signed a contract with my insurance company (a PPO, not an HMO), they have an agreement between them NOT to allow their patients to change doctors. Once you see one of them, you're stuck with them no matter what their skill level. I called three of the seven partners and they all told me the same thing - they refused to see me. When I asked Dr. Zovich to release me to see one of his partners, he would not. None of them ever asked me why I wanted to see a doctor in the first place. I had to leave the county to find a new gastroenterologist. Even though I'd had a colonoscopy a little more that a year ago, I had another one with my new doctor in Santa Maria. He found FIVE polyps. All were precancerous and one of them was 10 mm. I can understand how some polyps can be missed. The intestines are complicated and there are many variables. However, the 10 mm polyp was in a place that should never have been missed and was causing me a lot of discomfort. I recommend you do your research before you see the doctors in this group. Especially Dr. Zovich. For me, it is worth driving from Atascadero to Santa Maria to see a skilled, careful doctor. read more

We saw Dr. Zovich in the hospital after we had a horrible experience with another GI doctor in his group. He was SO amazing. He called multiple doctors in other facilities to try to get us in for a much needed surgery. I can't say enough good things about him. He was wonderful. He called my husband multiple times throughout his surgery simply for an update and to see how he was doing - something doctors just don't do anymore. He restored our faith in the GI group and in doctors. Luckily, surgery was a great solution for my husband and we may not need to see Dr. Zovich very often but we wouldn't hesitate to go back to him and recommend him. read more

Dr. Zovich is a great great doctor! I had a endoscopy and colonoscopy and he was always professional, kind, gently and really nice. He has a great bed side manner and makes you feel like you are in good hands and he cares about your treatment. The endoscopy and colonoscopy were quick and easy at the San Luis Endoscopy Center and I followed up with Dr. Zovich a few weeks later. His office is new and beautiful over near French Hospital and he has an attentive staff. His PA Renne is great and answering/returning calls and all are very helpful. I was scheduled for a colonoscopy and endoscopy at French hospital for abdominal issues I've been having. I also was going to have a stricture dilated in my esophagus (which this doctor told me I had 8 years ago). Right before I was medicated for the procedure he asked me if I had any questions. When I asked if there were any risks to the dilation he exploded!! Became very angry, almost yelling out all the possible extreme risks. I was in shock and so were the other nurses surrounding me. I felt like leaving but I had already gone through the terrible prep, had an IV and been admitted as an outpatient. He said "do you not want me to do it?". I said only if it's necessary. Then I was medicated and don't remember any more. I never heard from him after that, he did not do the dilation. No apology or explanation. I have transferred doctors. I have now heard from multiple nurses and a doctor that he is moody. There is no excuse for that behavior. How can you feel comfortable going under anesthesia when the Dr cannot control his behavior and is visibly angry? The office staff were very nice read more

Very disappointed in their services. We have been trying to make an appointment for weeks only to have both of our appointments cancelled the morning of by the office staff. We have told them that I am in the middle of a flareup and there was still no effort to get me seen. Would not recommend this office ever! read more

I have been under Dr Zovich's care for over 15 years. He's the best doctor I have EVER had! Not only is he thorough, he's a nice and personable person. He looks you in your eyes when he give you medical options and is always up front with you about your care. He is truly concerned about your health. His front desk staff is also wonderful. The procedure went fine the staff at the Endoscopy center was marginal of the 7 staff members I met only 2 volunteered their names. It started with the young woman at the desk in front who I guess thought she was doing you a favor by taking your insurance card, and other information. Zero personality which is unfortunate. She was actually trying to explain the different anesthetic agents to the person next in line, which of course is far beyond her scope of practice,and in reality is dangerous. I am a patient of Dr. Zovich and find him very competent. I want to address the negative concerns on this page. Some of the people have had serious problems that were not found on the first visit. Fortunately, they went to the ER where they could get the required tests the same day and eventually a correct diagnosis. If you do not want to go to the ER, go back to your Doctor and ask for a 2nd look. Or see another Dr if you can do that in time. DO NOT tell the 2nd that another Dr. told you it was "in your head" or even the diagnosis you disagree with. Or, if you get the same diagnosis ask, "If that is not the problem, then what else could it be." The point is, if you are sick, and you feel you have the wrong diagnosis keep going to Doctors or ERs until you know you have the right answers. read more

I usually Yelp about food but today I wanted to share what a great experience I had with Dr. Zovich. I had two office visits before my colonoscopy. Both times I was greeted by the staff and treated like family not just another patient. I'm not kidding my appointments were on time! Not only are the staff great but Dr. Zovich rocks. I'm not sure why Dr. Zovich gets bad reviews. I think some people like to complain or are searching for a cure that maybe this doc can't give. I understand there may be other issues going on with folks, and a simple doctor visit might not find the root cause - especially when it doesn't involve the intestines. I've had Crohn's disease for over 20 years and have seen more doctors than hairs on my head. Out of all the GI docs I've seen, Dr. Zovich ranks one of, if not, the best. My previous doctor was part of Dr. Zovich's practice and I really liked him, so I was nervous when this doctor left the practice to pursue research. I cried because in 20 years I finally felt like I was getting somewhere after being told I was crazy by so many doctors (even though I've had half my colon removed!), and so moving to yet another doctor just about sent me over the edge. But there I was, in the care of Dr. Zovich. Now I won't lie, he is not Mr. warm and fuzzy in his demeanor, but he is straight to the point (which I like - no b.s.), listens to what I have to say, and makes a judgement about the best course of action. He may not say what I want him to say (because I want to pretend this will all go away with warm wishes), but he assigns a path forward to improve my Crohn's symptoms and I believe he truly cares. On that note, Dr. Zovich knew I had trouble being able to afford medications and the doctor's visits... so he gave me a free visit! Never in my life has a doctor done that... this guy cares... some people just might not want to see it. I understand, when we are in pain it is hard to see past our emotions and anger that pain causes - cause we just want the pain to go away! I would not reccomend this Dr. I did not get a diagnosis, and he will not be doing any further testing for me to try to find out what is wrong with my stomach. I had my colonscopy with Dr Zovich, and his staff at 77 Casa. All around fabulous experience, and I was so nervous. They gave me lots of TLC, reassured me and were very kind, and the procedure was painless and quick. Amy, his anesthesiologist nurse was especially wonderful, All of the nursing staff at the Endoscopy center were highly attentive, gentle and highly effective at their jobs. I made an appointment with Dr.Zovich and couldn't get in for like three months which I totally understand. Specialists can be difficult to get in to. I wanted to see him for a second opinion as I've been dealing with debilitating stomach problems for 7 months now and have yet been able to figure out what's causing my bile reflux. I go to my appointment mind you that is a 45 min drive(I'll drive and fly as far as I can if it will help my health) and when I get into the room with him I start explaining my history and the tests I've had done and he stops me mid sentence and says why are you here? I tell him to get a second opinion. Then he says you mean a third? Because I have been down to UCLA to have some tests done down there. He then proceeds to tell me that he can't see me and that he doesn't believe I have bile reflux and says his office staff shouldn't have scheduled me to see him. I'm completely appalled and I start crying with frustration right away. He could have at least listened to my symptoms and even look at my results and my paperwork but didn't even do that. He could have guided me in a direction of someone who could help me but he just shut me down right away. I'm so disappointed in this doctor. I feel helpless. I was so hopeful seeing and getting either the same opinion or different opinion but he didn't want to do either. read more

I have been trying to call this office all day now and I either get an automated message sending me in circles saying my party is unavailable and to speak to reception press zero...but right back to the same message when I do press zero. The one time I did get transferred to the assistant Courtney, I couldn't even leave a voicemail because it said her mailbox was full. How am I supposed to set anything up to be seen again? This is a little irritating especially since my first experience with them was already unprofessional, I was told that I needed to call my insurance provider to make sure the procedure they wanted to do would be covered. Isn't that their billing department's job?? I am not a Doctor so I would have no idea what I would even be supposed to ask my insurance provider would be covered!! I have never been asked to call my insurance provider about coverage. read more

If I could give a zero I would. Dr. Zovich provided the worst medical care I have ever received, bar none. I was seen in the emergency room at French Hospital because I was unable to swallow and was even vomiting my own saliva up. The two physicians in the ER called Dr. Zovich, the gastroenterologist on call and asked him to come in and see me at about 11:00 PM on a Monday night. Based on my symptoms Dr. Zovich decided that my inability to swallow was a psychological issue and not a medical issue. The two physicians tried to convince him this was not the case, but to no avail. I was subsequently admitted to the hospital and the staff doctors called Dr. Zovich and asked him to come in to do an endoscopy to determine if my esophagus was blocked. Without seeing me he stated that my problem was all in my head. Dr. Zovich finally came in and performed the endoscopy at 4:00 PM on Monday. He found that I had a blockage in my esophagus and several ulcers as well. Once the blockage was cleared I could swallow. On Tuesday I developed pneumonia from the vomit I had aspirated into my lungs. I would not ever seek medical care from this arrogant irresponsible health care provider and I advise everyone to stay away from him. read more

I was referred to a Dr. Zovich by my general physician. Dr. Zovich's receptionist told me he was accepting new patients. So, I waited while my records were sent over. After a week, I called his office. His receptionist told me my records were sitting on his desk for review. So, I waited another week and called again (his office never called me once). This time his receptionist told me Dr. Zovich had sent my records back to my general physician and could not help me. He never referred me to another doctor. I have GI problems. Dr. Zovich is a specialist. Somethings not right with this picture. I have filed a complaint with the California Medical Board. read more

Dr. Zovich and his team do an amazing job and I am so grateful to have found a great G.I. specialist here on the central coast! His staff does an excellent job of listening to any concerns as they come up, calling insurance companies for test authorizations, faxing orders to labs, etc. It's such a relief to have a Doctors office that works for you to help in whatever way they can. If they say they are going to do something it actually gets done with out a reminder call. I've never posted a review but was so taken aback by the treatment I received, I had to put it out there as a warning. I would've given a zero if I could. If you're looking for a doctor with no bedside manner (which usually is unimportant to me), that doesn't really listen to what you say, who is also defensive and dismissive of your answers, then Dr. Zovich is definitely your guy! As I'm telling him my ER story, which he asked about, I get to the part where the dr. offers my hydrocodone (which I did not take). But before I can even get the next word out, he interjects with , "I don't prescribe opiates!" Jeez!! Did you hear me ask you for any?!?! Not only that, but no more than 60 seconds after he left the room, and went to his office, I had one more question. I told one of the office staff that I had one more question and she went to let him know. She comes back to me and says, "What's your question?" Then she goes to his office and gives him the question. Really?!?! I was the only patient there!! Then at checkout, I thought of one more. Mind you, this guy is a specialist, so you know his patients need serious treatment. She goes back to his office once more, comes back and says, "He just left," and as she's telling me this, I see him walk past the window behind her!! Now, the office is quite small, so I KNOW he was there. Ugh!!! But the front office women were wonderful! read more
