I have never written a negative or positive review of anyone on yelp. Please know I mean everything I write. I went to his office very excitedly after reading all of the reviews online. I went again for a second visit, hoping the following experience would have been better. I was wrong.
Cons:
1. First of all, he is one of those doctors that thinks he knows best and is always right. He also just talks about himself a lot. He even interrupted me a few times to continue talking about himself and his practice.
2. We chose to keep our son's penis intact. Dr. McCrimmons told me that I really should get him circumcised. He basically said that I will be back when our son is a little older and he'll have to say "I told you so". He told me some horror stories about men and boys who needed to be circumcised. I told him we did a lot of research and were happy with our decision to keep our son intact. Dr. McCrimmons then said "What? What are you talking about? What is intact?". I simply said that all of his penis is there and that we didn't remove any of it. He said "Oh, ok, I see, you are just saying that he is uncircumcised". I said "yep, but we use the word intact as well, it kind of normalizes it a bit more, instead of circumcision always being the norm." He said "Well, he is either circumcised or uncircumcised and that he had never heard the "intact" as a word used for an uncircumcised penis". I told him that the word "intact" is used in a lot of literature these days and I was surprised he hadn't heard the word used. What a frustrating conversation... I would have liked Dr. McCrimmons to respect our views on weather to circumcise or not and not feel belittled or feel like we may have made a bad choice. My heart just did not feel right after meeting with him. I called my husband and told him we need to look for a new pediatrician. Ugh!
3. He boasts that he hasn't changed his practice at all in the past 30 years. He literally mentioned this like four times while I was there. That is fine and all, but I want a pediatrician who changes with the times and stays up-to-date on his profession.
4. I talked with Dr. McCrimmons about having my son on a slightly delayed vaccine schedule and I told him which shots I wanted our son to get. He was fine with that and we seemed to be on the same page. After leaving, I looked down at my sons chart and realized that Dr. McCrimmons gave our son a shot that I did not want him to get yet. So frustrating!
5. Instead of talking about my son during our visit, he talked about babies in general. We just moved here and my previous pediatrician would tell me how and why my son was doing well and they were specific. I would ask Dr. McCrimmons a question and he would say stuff like "All babies..." and "In general...". He never really talked about MY baby, which is why I was there!
6. I think he is a little sexist... I know that is a bold claim, but I really do. I went to his office without my husband both times and he seemed really dismissive of my concerns. I felt devalued in my thought processes. Dr. McCrimmons said during both visits that I should bring my husband next time--almost suggesting that it'd be better to talk to him than me.
Pros:
1. Dr. McCrimmons calls children "chief".
2. There is a well and sick waiting room.
3. The offices are painted with cute flowers, plants, animals, etc.
