Beware of Daniel Terry of DLT Handyman. I hired him to paint my living room and install ceiling…read morefans last December. I asked if he could start after Christmas. He said he could complete the job before Christmas. Well, Christmas came and went, and the work was nowhere near complete. During this time, he repeatedly asked for additional money, which I paid. At the same time, he began taking on other jobs and would only show up to work on my house intermittently. My home became unlivable due to sheetrock dust covering everything. The work area included my living room, dining area, and kitchen, and I was forced to stay confined to my bedroom.
He had promised to move and cover my belongings to protect them and complete the work in sections. That did not happen. Instead, dust and paint spread throughout the house.
By mid-January, the job was still unfinished. He had disappeared for a little while. I thought he was working other jobs. But actually- he was in jail and has been in jail multiple times. Domestic violence. When he returned, he told me he had other jobs and would return in two weeks to finish, leaving me unable to properly live in my home. In February, I became seriously ill with COVID. While I was at the hospital, he showed up at my house. I did not know he was coming to work. But someone was there and let Daniel. When I returned home that evening, he was in my driveway, angry that I was not there to pay him and insisted the job was complete and demanded payment. I wrote him a check. I was very sick. I went straight to bed. The next day, it was clear the work was not complete. There were unfinished areas, and my home was covered in sheetrock dust and paint. Paint overspray was on windows, cabinets, and furniture, and there were large areas of paint on the flooring. When I contacted him, he initially said he would return. The night before he was supposed to come back, I sent a punch list of items that still needed to be completed. He responded angrily with a F-you, accused me of "nitpicking and criticizing his work" and refused to return to finish the job.
As it stands, the work remains incomplete, and my home has been left with significant mess. I hired him off Nextdoor where he had some good reviews. I did not know that sometimes, Nextdoor removes bad reviews. So I didn't know. I didn't see his picture on The Georgia Gazette either.
