Lots of families gathered around and coming together so if you have kids they will have a blast. Went with work friends and we had a great time hanging out and trying out different foods from different places. I completely forgot to take any pictures.... I got the tofu tacos from the Supper Truck! They were scrumptious!!! The Sriracha sour cream was amazing! I also splashed a little more sriracha on top as well! Which if you knew me is huge.. haha been in NM for almost 4 years and before I moved here the hottest sauce I used was the mild hot sauce from Taco Bell.. pretty sad I know.. and I wouldn't eat green Chile either... and now I love it!! Supper Truck service was kind and helpful and fast. I didn't wait long for my order and they tried to be carful about not putting cilantro on my tacos! Much a appreciated.

Definitely bring your own chairs, blankets, etc to make yourselves comfortable to listen to the music, eat, play frisbee, etc. Be ready to meet new people because everyone is super friendly! We will definitely come back on future Tuesdays! This was a super fun event!

This is a thrilling annual…read moreevent and, if you can survive the truly hellish attempts at parking, I think this is a must-see spectacle. It's the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade but with fire and the most chaotic up-close experience possible. I don't know it all seems to work without mayhem but it does. It's a viscerally invigorating time. If you arrive asleep, you will leave astounded by the blazing profusion of colors and flames and quiet ascension of balloons reaching into the sky. In other words, unlike that famous parade, you are in the mix and a part of it all. It's a whirlwind of the human spirit. The morning session is the ascent of the balloons. The silent takeoffs into the blue sky are like bubbles in boiling water and so serenely soothing to watch. The evening session are the balloons posing brightly at ground level all lit up from inside by the flames that keep them inflated. They are gigantic night lights adorning the large field. The fiesta has a large contingent of food stalls from the proverbial funnel cakes to Japanese ramen. There are souvenirs for sale and music to be heard. Families make this an annual tradition and I understand. People visit from around the world. My friend and I lost touch too long ago but I hope she made it here. She would have loved it.

We dedicated Friday morning to the Balloon Fiesta, and aside from the drone show being canceled, everything went perfectly. Getting there was easy using the Park & Ride from Coronado Mall. You do have to wake up early since the buses start running at 4 a.m., and we arrived about 25 minutes later. Once there, we found plenty of carnival and fair-style food. Some highlights were the green chili cheese curds, Frito pie, and an Indian food vendor serving delicious chicken marsala burritos. We walked around while waiting for Dawn Patrol, and by 7 a.m., the sky was alive with color. The first to launch were the Rainbow Riders which are massive balloons carrying over 20 passengers each. Soon after, the sky filled with hundreds of vibrant balloons, including the fun "special shapes" from the rodeo lineup. Everywhere we looked, there was something new to admire, there are over 500 balloons in total! We also learned about Albuquerque's unique wind pattern known as the Albuquerque Box, which allows pilots to take off, fly south, and then, by changing altitude, catch a return wind that brings them back to the launch site. It's the only place in the world where this phenomenon happens, making it ideal for hot air ballooning. Seeing the Balloon Fiesta in person was absolutely magical, it is a breathtaking experience that everyone should witness at least once.

Just Go (#12) As a…read morevisitor of the State of New Mexico we've enjoyed our short stay during one summer in July 2016. We spent 4 days enjoying sightseeing at some historical buildings and landmarks, we signed up for tours... plus Howie (ABQ CM) was gracious enough to include us in two of his Yelp events in Albuquerque. New Mexico is part of the quadripoint where the boundaries of the four states meet at the Four Corners Monument. I once had a coworker who was raised by the Navajo tribe and he suggested we visit the Aztec Ruins National Monument, these were architectural remains once home to the Pueblo people. Visiting historic ruins always fascinated me so we stopped by and went on a self-guided tour. There is a trail guide which was only about 1/2 mile. It started with the Great Kiva, a building used for ceremonies. While walking through the ruins please keep in mind to keep noise level down out of respect to the ancestors of the Pueblo people. We rode the Sandia Peak Tramway in Albuquerque. At 10,378 feet, this tops the other two aerial trams I've experienced at Heavenly Valley in Lake Tahoe at 10,067 feet and Squaw Valley in the North Shore of Lake Tahoe at 9,050 feet. Once we reached the top we enjoyed beautiful panoramic views of ABQ and the New Mexico countryside! The Sandia Peak Tramway is the 3rd longest tramway in the world! The Carlsbad Caverns National Park was a popular spot... we took The Big Room Tour that was about 1.3 miles from start to finish. The cave was a huge natural limestone chamber that was decorated with different types of large calcite formations and cool stalactites. It took us about 1.0 to 1-1/2 hours to complete. You know me... I love my pictures. LoL! Arrive early... dress in layers, it was summertime but it gets cold below at the cavern. We signed up with ABQ Trolley Co for a tour of Albuquerque. This was a fun and educational experience. It took us from Old Town to the Historic Route 66 and everywhere else in between. This is not a hop-on, hop-off service. You hop off the trolley and that's it for you LoL! Our tour guide was great! Thanks to ABQ Yelp CM, Howie K, for allowing us to join cool Albuquerque Yelpers at their events! It was nice seeing Jeanie M (relocated from Reno NV): Yelp Pigs Out @ Pork & Brew (Rio Rancho) Yelp Makes Whoopee at the The Joint (WisePies Pizza) Had some yummy chicken & waffles at Frank's Famous Chicken & Waffles in Albuquerque... also, try fresh, delicious donuts from Whoo's Donuts in Santa Fe! This is a gorgeous state, man." I smiled. Preaching my personal gospel. Indeed, there's so much to discover around here, yet somehow the entire state remains somewhat undiscovered. And for most of us residents, that's exactly the way we want it to remain. Our own little secret. Short shrift is cool. But ultimately that's obviously not what we're going for around here, and this company, Food Tour New Mexico, is here to help expose the goods. This tour company focusses on the food (yeah, and drink) that make the state great. They've been operating in Santa Fe for years and recently they've expanded to Albuquerque. They're not taking you on a tour of a White Sands dune, but they're all about educating newbies on New Mexican cuisine, which is worthy of an afternoon of your time. Even locals can learn a little about their native eats; one of my favorite aspects of the tour was the cup of posole and the guided description of the composition of the soup, both Native and Mexican, that completes the recipe. Anticipate an exceptionally enjoyable visit in Old Town, with some huge surprises, and a tour that goes beyond food. Great company.

It's great for foodies wanting to learn about local cooking or anyone curious about the area's history. This activity would be great for a fun date night. Or if you are a food lover or enjoy history, you should give this tour a try. I highly recommend.

Overall, I thought the fair was a bit unorganized. It was held at EXPO on San Pedro/Lomas and it was hard to figure out which Gate to enter without having to circle around that large block of area. It would have been nicer if the organizers let us know the proper gates that would be convenient to attend. Also, parking was a bit confusing. There was no sign, whatsoever. You park and just walk around towards the center to find the area to purchase tickets/enter the area..but I wish there were more organizations of handicapped accessible parking and/or even a golf card ride to the entrance (in case you have someone senior/less accessible with you attending as well). Second, prices were pretty high. I understand it's a State Fair so there would naturally be an upcharge. But the regular ticket price of $15 and (if you park close to the fiar of $10) to start is actually quite high. Granted, anyone should take advantage of special admission day that can help bring the prices down to $1-2...that could help a bit. Prices of the vendors in there are..obviously very high. $5 for a bottle of soda, $8 for a cup of elote, $12 for Aqua fresca..and, frank,y $10++ for an entree. I don't think these were extremely high prices..but for...regular fare food quality..I'm not sure if I like to pay that much. I can't imagine how much a family who comes here would pay for members of the family...especially if you have kids and need to feed them food+entertain them with rides! Third, there were some nice shows/music around. I really enjoyed the sea lion shows and thought they were cute. But walking around..I also felt bad for some animals in some camped exhibition/van spage...like monkeys...etc. I honestly feel bad for them being captured/monetized that way. I can't imagine how bad their living conditions may be..unfortunately. Overall, I was glad I attended the state fair in NM finally. But...unless someone new in state who had never been to a fair would like to go..I can't imagine myself wanting to go again any time soon.

It could maybe use a fresh coat of paint, but it is still considerably in great shape since it has been there since 1961. Back then the shopping plaza was named Indiana Plaza. The arrow stands about 20 feet tall and looks like it was shoot into the stone base on which its sits. If the arrow does not already draw enough attention, it use to have neon lighting. However, it was too expensive to maintain so they scrapped it. Another interesting note is that in 1980, some of the plaza's tenants looked to add a few parking spots, which is premium in that location, by ripping out the arrow. The arrow was given landmark status though and it remains in it location today. There is an urban legend that the arrow ended up there by Lil' Beaver, the Indian sidekick of Red Ryder, the cowboy of TV, movie and comic strip fame, using a giant bow to shoot the arrow into an awaiting patch of soft concrete. I love the story and the hype, but I seriously doubt that it is true. I was able to pull into that same parking lot, park, get out and take a closer look. It was very easy. Anyway, as with most attractions that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, such as the space ship house or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.
