So disappointed! This has been my all-time favorite breakfast/coffee/ lunch place since it opened. My experience during my last three visits has been less than good. Today most of the tables had dirty dishes on them, the staff was impersonal, and the food was mediocre. I got an egg plate today, and it was more than half filled with greasy hashbrowns. The toast was limp, and eggs were overcooked. Come on Dandelion!! Clearly not everyone agrees with me because the place was crowded. I will find a new place to frequent. read more

I've been to the Dandelion Cafe in the Heights and assumed this location would be comparable, but it was not. My guests and I arrived around 3 PM, just an hour before close, but it still felt like we were being rushed. The cashier that took our order seemed a bit standoff-ish and literally after each item she abruptly said "what else... anything else... what else". I mean, just kindly slow down and let us get our complete order in without rushing us to the next item. As I waited to pay, I just wanted to double check that I was receiving rewards so I asked, and she said "well you're not getting any money off today" Umm, that's not what I asked. I said I just wanted to make sure my rewards were being applied from this nearly $70 tab. The wait staff were friendly and even though some items were incorrect (one of my guests ordered a hot latte but they brought out an iced one) they were very polite and ensured we received the correct items thereafter. They are the reason I'll give this location at least 3 stars. The food was ok - I ordered the Salmon BLTA and again, thinking it would be comparable to the Heights location, it was not. I asked for extra mayo when I ordered- there was hardly any mayo at all. Again I'm not sure if it's because they were close to being closed that things were a bit lackluster, but we were there an hour before close... service and food quality should be up to par. If I am ever in the mood for Dandelion Cafe again, I'll just go to the Heights location. read more

They do get busy so we were expecting a wait and pleasantly surprised as there were a couple of tables open around 11:30. A smaller, cozy spot decorated with hanging plants. Order at the counter and find a table. Our food came out in a timely manner. Cappuccino and Drip Coffee were strong and tasty. We ordered their signature dish (GMA's best breakfast choice in Houston) Chicken and Waffles-the twist of the boneless chicken (marinated in Chorizo/Creole spices ) with cornbread/buttermilk waffles didn't disappoint. BYO Omelette with Spinach, Mushrooms and Feta was delicious-roasted hash browns are not to be missed. Strawberries and Cream French Toast was closer to a dessert. Those with a sweet tooth will love this one. Service at the counter was friendly and upbeat. It looked like they were working on an expansion? We'll be watching and will be back! read more

I came on a Saturday morning due to the award winning chicken and waffles. There's plenty of parking around the building. You have to order at the counter and there can be a line to do this. I ordered the chicken and waffles. I wanted a juice but they were pre bottled so I got a lemon ginger shot instead. The wait for the food was reasonable. The chicken was thighs so it was moist. The waffles were cornmeal waffles and not my thing. I asked for no butter but it did have butter on it. We needed up staying for a couple hours chatting and they didn't ask us to move or leave until they were closing which was nice. There's a canister for water at the front for self serve. Made famous by GMA, the Dandelion Cafe located in Houston TX, serves a mean chicken and waffles in busy cafe-like setting. It has a small selection of breakfast items, large selection of drinks, and friendly service. They are deservedly proud of their homemade items. The four of us (two visitors, two locals) came just before lunchtime on a Wednesday, and the cafe was still fairly busy. Thus the dedicated parking lot was pretty full, and there were definitely people waiting for spots. We did find a spot close to the front. Once you enter, you stand in line to place and pay for your order (if line is long, you can grab a laminated menu to plan out your order while wiating), then find a table to sit at (they gently remind you not to reserve tables before placing your order and people did follow instructions). There were empty places to sit (just had to stack used plates from the previous occupants so we didn't have to wait). The food will be brought out to you as each dish is ready. Chef JC's award winning chicken and waffles ($19.99) - 3 fried chicken boneless thighs, sitting on top of a cornmeal waffle, and compound butter scoop. This was the order for three of us, and everyone except me really liked it. I thought the chicken was very crispy with good coating, but the meat was dry...that's the price you pay for using boneless chicken (even dark meat) and you shouldn't use syrup to alleviate. The waffle was very soft, and started to disintegrate after pouring on the syrup. This is a dish that goes best by preparing each bite separately, rather than just mixing everything together at the beginning. Dandy Chicken Chilaquiles ($14.99) - made with eggs their way...the picture on the menu showed sunny side (runny) so was expecting that, but mine came scrambled (expertly done, very fluffy). It's a beautiful looking dish. Especially liked the eggs and avocado on top, and the salsa tasted freshly made. The chips seemed homemade, nice and thick, definitely made from a good corn tortilla. We got a couple of sides, just to try it out. Homemade maple sausage ($3.99) - two smashed thin patties. It had a distinctive pleasant flavor, and used a bit of fennel. The homemade hashbrowns ($2.99) was delicious and crisp,,,colored yellow instead of white, so assuming they used yellow potatoes (to make it clear that it's not from frozen) instead of the typical russet. Service is a combination of self serve and food brought to your table: water is self serve near the door with plastic reusable glasses, and this is where you can pick up utensils and napkins as well. Everyone at the cafe was pleasant, doing their job, and it was a nice mix of people ordering, talking and eating, right in the heart of Houston. read more

I constantly want to make it over here and will advocate for coming here over any of the chain breakfast places in the same area. I only wish they had a bigger place and would turn their outside heaters on properly. I could have been a better self advocate and asked as well. Food is consistently good as well as their coffee. I had to stop myself from getting a second one to go as one coffee is usually all I can handle these days. They know how to make lots of great dishes and do so consistently well. What else can one ask for? My go to is the veggie scramble which was a little heavy on the mushrooms but still made well. Make sure to specify what kind of bread you want with it since the default seems to be a Kaiser roll which has an additional charge of a dollar. It does come with some sort of seasonal jelly that I believe they make themselves. Since the type of jelly changes you may want to ask what it is if you have any preferences. When it came time to pay the bill at the counter, a nice surprise for us was that Wednesday happened to be half off pancake day. read more

What a great breakfast to start off the weekend. Arrived at about 9am and there were still quite a few tables available, both inside and out. There is a huge parking lot so no parking anxiety there. We ordered at the counter and grabbed a spot. We tried the veggie scramble, breakfast sandwich, a lavender honey latte and a pastry (made at their heights location). We enjoyed everything! Sausage had great flavorful, loved the amount of veg in the scramble, the coffee was delicious and not overly sweet. The staff were all very sweet as well. This place was plenty busy for Saturday brunch but it's run like a well oiled machine so everything moved smoothly. You order at the counter and get your seat and I love that they have a big sign telling you to order before grabbing a seat. My pet peeve is when people "save" tables before ordering because it messes up the flow when it's busy. We both tried the frozen lemonade - one strawberry mint (4/5) and one blueberry (5/5). Although both were refreshing, the blueberry cut the tartness of the lemonade just right. It was a bit warm inside from all the people but it wasn't intolerable, especially with a frozen drink. Although there was always someone in line, there was an open table for each party and I didn't see anyone waiting for a table. They have a ton of people behind the counter and kitchen so orders moved fast. Also a couple people working the floor cleaning tables immediately. I ordered the famous chicken and waffles (5/5) and found it worthy of the hype. The chicken was just the right crisp but more importantly it was juicy and flavorful! The waffle held up the crisp and fluffiness and loved that they had self serve sauce cups of syrup instead of jugs of sticky syrup containers! The spicy maple butter was also something new I hadn't seen before. We also tried the Blueberry Lemon Curd French Toast Stix (5/5) - this is not something I've seen anywhere else. I'm generally not a fan of bread, but gosh this was good. A little on the sweet side, so I could probably only eat 1-2 stix, but the blueberry and lemon curd were a great pairing. Food is just barely ok, staff can often be unfriendly, and music can be too loud that having a convo proves to be difficult. We tried this place last Sunday. I like how you have to order at the counter and then look for a table to be seated. Their pancakes are so moist and delicious. They reminded me of my grandmother's. Not sure if they have a bit of cornmeal but they sure did taste like they did. I also ordered a lox bagel but they forgot to put it on my tab so offered something else since they ran out. I opted for a soft scrambled egg and it was just to my liking. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles. We thought the waffle was a little dry. But the main reason I decided to revisit this review today was the customer service. I drove admittedly a bit out of my way craving a menu item that's no longer available. Instead of prompting me to select another, their team put on their creative hats, realized they have all of the ingredients to create the dish and crafted me an order. The extra touch was beyond appreciated. I wish I grabbed a receipt or that team members name so I could shout them out! I'll be blunt, I know these folks are not paid enough to have to problem solve with customers, but it means the world when they do! Not all items are winners, but the service is. The energy here is lively and warm. It feels like the place family and friends get together at. The service was top notch! The whole staff made it an incredibly welcoming experience for a first timer and I was attended to from start to finish. As for the food, I don't know many coffee shops that dare to do a turkey chili but on a brisk day like today, it was well worth the risk! The only small complaint was maybe the Golden Milk latte was not made for me. It lacked the punch I usually look for in coffee. That's more of a preference and not a quality issue! In all honesty these were definitely some of the best chicken & waffles i've ever had. The fried chicken was the best part imo but I'm biased, I'm not a waffle guy. The butter tasted like it had tabasco sauce in it and I thought it added a lot to the cornbread waffles. I definitely recommend this location. Dandelion cafe was featured earlier this year on Good Morning America and competed against a Houston staple, The Breakfast Klub. Having tried Breakfast Klub's chicken and waffles before, I had to try Dandelion Cafe's as well. Their chicken and waffles was so good.. the chicken was so flavorful due to being marinated for 24 hours. The cornbread buttermilk waffle and spicy maple butter were a good pairing. (And I didn't think the maple butter was spicy at all). I must say that I really enjoyed their chicken and waffles better than anywhere else I've tried in Houston. The homemade biscuit was not dry... it was what I would expect a biscuit to be and I asked for strawberry jam. The agua Fresca wasn't the best I've had.. but it was okay. Probably wouldn't get it again. Would love to try their coffees next time. There's both indoor and outdoor dining available. You go up to the counter and place your order, you'll get a number, and then you can sit wherever you like. Drinks are called out from the counter and the food is delivered to your table. I personally liked the decor of the cafe and it was spacious enough to not feel like you were dining with your neighbor. I really liked that.
