We had the best time sailing with Captain Bryan. He explains everything prior to setting sail; all necessary information due to any sort of emergency. We sailed on a beautiful and clean 35ft sailboat with all the necessary amenities. The winds were perfect and the water was quite choppy but the boat sailed smoothly and we learned so much. Fun day and beautiful scenery. Clean boat, professional and friendly communication. Highlight of our trip to LA for our family from the mid-west. Easy to find dock area. You can sit in back and try the wheel, or venture to sit on the bow. Boat is large and safe. Sailing is a relaxing different feel. Sighting dolphin pod was an added bonus. Captain sails it solo. Our 2 hour 4th of July Holiday sail with Captain Jeff was the BEST! Brought 2 of our grandchildren and he was so good explaining all about our boat and the adventure we were on but the most outstanding was that he took us to a huge pod of Dolphins and we all were thrilled watching them. They stayed with our boat for about 20 minutes while swimming along side us and around us. So amazing. Our second time out with this charter and highly recommend. read more

iBASEt had a Sailing Regatta Executive Teambuilding event with Dana Point Charters. Captain Jeff and Captain Bryan did a wonderful job tying in our companies strategic goals. Sailing Regatta helped build our teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills. We had two sailboats with two teams of 5. Each sailboat had a Captain who taught us safety, the basics of sailing, and communication with one another on our assigned role. Both Captains made the event fun and engaging. We had a wonderfully memorable experience with Capt. Jeff and can't wait to do it again. The sailboat ("Out of the Blue") is beautiful and immaculately maintained with everything you need for a great day on the water. Capt. Jeff is supremely knowledgable and allowed us to participate in the sailing experience at key moments, while allowing us to relax and enjoy the open ocean. We were lucky to time our trip with the Tall Ships Festival and we got the experience of a lifetime when Capt. Jeff sailed us out among those historic vessels as they participated in a mock-cannon battle. Truly amazing and the perfect finale to an incredible day. we had a great time!!! booking was easy, communication was good, the weather was perfect, the wind was good. the boat was spotless and captain Brian was really good. he was very knowledgeable and taught us first timers the basics of sailing and let us drive the boat. its quiet once you get beyond the harbor and cut the engine and unfurl the sails. we saw quite a few dolphins and some other fish too. overall a perfect and relaxing way to spend the afternoon. good time for all. 5 stars read more

We had such an amazing time with Captain Bryan on Oceans Away. A group of six of us did the 4-hour sail for my fiance's 30th birthday and he loved taking the reigns behind the wheel and picking up on all the sailing lingo. Captain Jeff was quick to respond to my emails after booking and on the morning of our sail, Captain Bryan called to make sure we could find parking and the dock. Captain Bryan kept us entertained the whole time with stories about past charters as well as hearing about how he got into the industry. We were able to sit around and relax, or jump in and help out with a tack! We saw some large pods of dolphins in the distance and got to see some interesting ripples from schools of fish right next to the boat. The only problem I have is now trying to convince my fiance that we can't afford our own sailboat!! ;) Thanks again Captain Bryan and Captain Jeff - can't wait to sail with you again in the future! read more

Five of us went for a sunset cruise with Captain Jeff and had a wonderful sail. He is very professional and knowledgeable and made us all feel welcome aboard his immaculate boat. Captain Jeff makes the sail what you'd like it to be -- sit back, relax and he does all the work OR jump right in and take the wheel and help with the sails. I chose the relax mode, but a couple of us chose to take the wheel for a lot of the sail. We had a great time. Thanks for an enjoyable evening. read more

One of the highlights of our trip to Dana Point. Jeff Brown does an absolutely superb job with these trips. We did the Thursday sailing race in the early afternoon. Jeff and Brian, one of his crew, taught us all the basics of sailing and many of the more advanced concepts. My family and I had a great, great time. Our charter service specializes in sailing. We offer the only sailing experience that allows the guests to take the helm and really experience what it is like to sail a boat. All of our sailing adventures are led by Captain Jeff, a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain.

History

Established in 2015.

For years Captain Jeff spent hours outside Dana Point racing his Catalina 320 sailboat. He's always shared these experience with his friends and family, often wondering why nobody in Dana Point offered such an experience. In 2015, Captain Jeff decided to share this unique experience with the public, launching Dana Point Charters.

Meet the Business Owner: Jeff B.

Captain Jeff is a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain and is an avid sailor. For years Jeff has spent countless hours on the ocean. Sometimes it's an enjoyable cruise around the harbor or taking friends and family out for a spectacular sunset. When he's not having a leisurely sail, you can find him just off the coast participating in one of the sailing races hosted by the different yacht clubs up and down the coast. His boat "Out of the Blue" is a very competitive racing sloop that has become famous for winning, and they have the trophies to prove it. When Captain Jeff is not on the water sailing or fishing, he spends time with his family in San Clemente, a neighboring city to Dana Point. There he lives with his wife and two sons, also avid sailors.

My boys absolutely love this camp -- the sailing, the teamwork, the fun -- it's all top notch. This year, we ran into an unexpected situation where one of my sons wasn't able to attend, even though we had signed up well in advance. Based on the camp's policy, Westwind could have easily told us there was nothing they could do -- but they did the opposite. They were quick to respond, incredibly understanding, and went out of their way to accommodate us. In a world where customer service can be hit-or-miss, their compassion and professionalism really stood out. Another lovely moment: during the "practice capsizing" day, my elderly parents came to watch. Without us asking, the amazing staff brought out chairs for them so they could sit and enjoy the event comfortably. That kind of thoughtfulness is rare and speaks volumes about the team behind this camp. We're so grateful for everything Westwind Sailing offers -- from the wonderful instruction to the truly kind and caring staff. Highly recommend this camp to anyone considering it!

There's four conservation parks which makes the nearly 64 acres of the headlands. Will take approximately about an hour to two hours of completion to walk the trails. You'll come across scenic overlooks, beach access, and the Nature Interpretive Center. Glad we came on a breezy day and not have the sun beaming on us. We took lots of pictures with ocean and beach background setting. Beware of rattlesnakes and mice as signs are posted up along the trails, but we didn't encounter them. If you are in Dana Point, put this on your list of sights to see.

Parking was super easy and there was no waiting! I called them to make sure they had availability and within 5 minutes of parking I was on the jet ski getting an quick tutorial before heading out on the water. I've been on a jet ski before, but not like these. They have two modes: ECO and SPORT. ECO is fun and great for beginners and cruising, but if you're experienced you can switch it to SPORT and really fly! Super stoked with the entire experience, thank you!

The hunk at the boathouse was the owners son and he was adorable. We had a great hour cruising around the gorgeous Dana Point coast line. We then had a great lunch overlooking the harbor where sea lions and dolphins were galavanting. Go here if you want to spend a terrific afternoon enjoying the sun and water.

Absolutely wonderful experience! Captain Jeff was amazing, he taught my boyfriend and I a lot about how the boat works and kept us very interested during the whole experience! My boyfriend has been interested in learning how to sail and taking the afternoon with Captain Jeff made us realize even more it's something we would love to continue to learn about!! If you aren't interested in learning and just want to enjoy the ocean breeze with some drinks and good company they are also the place to book with!! This was our first time sailing and was a gift to my husband for our 35th Wedding Anniversary. Bryan was our Captain and we had the best weather for May 2025. This sailing trip exceeded our expectations as we had perfect weather which made the sailing so calming, we saw an enormous amount of pods of dolphins close up, and even saw a whale tail and many sea otters. My husband expressed how much he enjoyed his gift and Bryan was very informative and answered all our questions about sailing. We would love to do this again. It was worth the money! Took an afternoon sail with Captain Jeff on February 2nd. His Catalina sailboat was beautifully and immaculately maintained. He proved to be a highly competent captain who was always concerned with our safety, as well as the quality of our experience. It was a great afternoon! It was hands-down THE coolest experience on the water EVER! Captain Jeff showed us an incredible time for our mini family reunion. 4 adults and 4 kids were screeching with excitement over the dolphins! Sooo many dolphins! Captain Bryan took out multi-generational family on a two hour sunset cruise in April. It was a fantastic experience!
