Traveling westward on interstate 84, I limped into The Dalles with a bent strut on a special anti-sway device attached to our toyhauler.
The local mechanic referred me to The Dalles Iron Works. "If anyone can fix it, they can."
When I arrived as this historic brick building, I was immediately assured that they could help.
The part was fixed by their straightening expert who looked like he was strong enough to bend it with his bare hands. In minutes the part was fixed and the guys even lent a hand as I reassembled the device step-by-step.
I don't know if I've ever been treated kinder anywhere in America.
Today I read more about this city called The Dalles, and discovered that it was considered the end of the Oregon Trail. This was the city where westward pioneers were welcomed and and assisted by citizens of The Dalles as they resupplied before leaving to their final destinations in the Pacific Northwest. I'm deeply grateful that this same spirit of kindness lives on.
There's much more I could mention, but allow me to close by saying thanks. read more
