July in Cabo San Lucas is no joke. I'm no stranger to high temps, but that humidity had me feeling like I was swimming through the air. We were melting, and fast. So when we spotted this hidden little Dairy Queen (not on the main strip but easy enough to find), we made a beeline for it like desert wanderers spotting an oasis.
Now, let's talk about the staff--meh. Not rude, just not exactly brimming with Disney-level cheer either. More of a "we're-here-so-order-something" kinda vibe. But honestly, I was just thrilled to be in the A/C, so I wasn't too pressed about their enthusiasm levels.
The store itself was clean, bright, and everything was labeled clearly (which I appreciate when I'm in "melt mode"). Seating inside is very limited--just a couple of chairs. A family of five swooped in and snagged them while we were still ordering (respect the hustle). Luckily, there are patio tables outside where you can chill... well, sorta "Chill" with 90% humidity levels.
Prices were pretty comparable to the U.S., no sticker shock here. Heads up though: It's cash only. No cards. But they do accept both pesos and U.S. dollars, so that was a win. Just make sure to have exact cash as they can't give back U.S. Dollars as change.
The ice cream really hit the spot, but you've gotta eat it like you're in the finals of an ice cream speed-eating contest. Mine was basically soup in under five minutes. Pro tip: bring napkins. Like, a lot of them, they didn't have any.
Flavor review time:
- My daughter got the Superman Blizzard and gave it a solid "NOPE." And trust me, this kid eats everything. If she taps out, you know it's gotta be pretty nasty.
- My son got the Kryptonita and loved it, so there's a win!
- I got a classic sundae. I really wanted hot fudge on it, but ended up with plain old chocolate syrup instead. I guess we can't win them all... regardless, it was still tasty!
All in all, if you're baking in the Cabo sun and craving something cold and sweet, this little DQ does the job. Not perfect, but definitely worth a quick stop to cool down and regroup.
