This review is specifically about the people who operate Daggett Aviation because the business cannot be compared to FBOs such as Signature and Millionaire (which are located in major metropolitan areas and cater to business aviation). Barstow-Daggett Airport is the only attended field in California between KLAS and KMHV so if you need fuel or have a mechanical problem before you reach Las Vegas, this is your only realistic option for getting help. Fortunately, the people here are honest and helpful.
There are no maintenance services available at KDAG but at least there is fuel, water, a restroom, and SHADE. It's not attended 24 hours but you can call a phone number to have someone to come out to pump fuel for you. Considering that they are literally in the middle of nowhere, their fuel prices are reasonable and they have Jet A as well as 100LL. Our airplane was stranded here for over three months with an engine problem until our mechanic could fly out to repair it. During that time, Daggett Aviation provided a semi-shaded place to park it at a very reasonable price and the people checked on it periodically to make sure that the tarps and tie-down lines were secure. That was unexpected and highly appreciated.
One unusual downside was that there are a pair of owls that nest in the rafters so if you park here, you may find some "gifts" that the owls vomit onto your airplane. To deter them, the owner of one of the permanently based airplanes keeps a radio tuned to a music station in his parking space. (Apparently, the owls don't like the music.) Unfortunately, our airplane wasn't parked immediately next to his so we had a few balls of "owl arf" on ours that needed to be removed before we could fly it. Be sure to bring water, towels, and perhaps some Poop Off (to make the poop removal easier). On the other hand, thanks to the owls' efforts, there don't seem to be many live rodents in the vicinity of the shelter. ;-) read more
