Barroccino was the highlight of our dessert stops in Florence…read more The affogato is absolutely delicious, balanced espresso with gelato that actually holds up, not an afterthought. We went twice during our three days in the city and regret not going a third time. Each visit we tried different flavors and still left thinking about what we didn't get to order. It's a small shop, so the line often spills out into the street, but it moves, and the location makes it easy to work into an evening walk. The espresso is genuinely delightful, which is the whole point of an affogato, and they get it right. Worth the wait, and worth repeating.

You won't see big piles of fluffy stuff here, but the real deal rich AF and divine gelato and exquisite flavors at that. If you think gelato flavors can't be seductive, look at the menu (cashew and saffron? Sweet wine and zabaione with Florentine cookies?!) The non dairy flavors are just as creative (hello, almond, apricot and popcorn). Thank you for such phenomenal vegan options. Because I'm a pistacchio fanatic and can never find this made vegan in a traditional gelateria, I went with the pistacchio con sale valterra (Volterra salt) and practically cried with happiness at one bite. I'm very much enamoured with Barronccino. I appreciate that it's a family business and that there's so much love that's poured into their operation. You can tell that everything is held to such a high standard.

Inside, 4 tables, a few chairs, a hipster recycle-friendly kinda look, a cafeteria and some pretty chilling music. In front of you, the isle of paradise. The staff were so sweet ! After telling them about a nut allergy I had they made me a special plate, which was really nice of them. That being said ... to other nut allergy people, be careful because a lot of their sweets have tree nuts, so always ask! Anyway, not only are their cakes great they are open really late, until midnight. I love finding places that are open late that offer Wifi! I will definitely be frequenting this spot often. Their website says that they are closed on Monday and open till 8pm on Tuesdays. I came one Thursday evening and they were closed, so I was kind of bummed out because I thought they were supposed to be open and there was no sign or explanation. I will come again to give it another try in the evening, for an after dinner dessert!

Located in Soffiano, it is a totally doable bus ride on the 6, in about 20 minutes you're there. Why is it amazing? They have perfected the art of traditional Tuscan sweets, no bullshit, just sugar, and love, and whatever other drug they put in their 'mille-foglie' cakes. I highly recommend the schiacciata, cenci, sacher cake and their tasty panini, I had one with prosciutto and artichoke which was awesome. Take some to go and your life will never be the same. During carnivale season, you will see the line snake out the door as people pick up their treats, I was there for over two hours and there was a almost constant stream of people, I don't know how they could even make that many cakes! To my waistline's horror, they also serve an abundance aperitivo and weekend dish dinner. When Florentine's tell you a place in the city serves good fish, you should be listening since well, Florence is nowhere near the coast.

This is a quite famous bar in Florence but not so much to tourists because it is out of the historical center and in a residential area. I love this place because not only do they have amazing pastries, but the staff are the real deal, they don't fool around. Coffee is made to perfection every time. I like taking my coffee outside and enjoying the neighborhood characters who pass by, enjoying a few more rounds of coffee while I sit back and relax. I see a lot of locals meeting here, unfortunately it isn't my zona so I am not a regular, but it's definitely a spot that is worth the trek to. To me this pasticceria is the real deal!
