I wasn't impressed unfortunately. I placed a call in order to go and the service was fast and friendly. I ordered the dinner portion of the jerk chicken, rice, and plantains. The chicken was just okay. It had this sauce on it that I'm not used to with jerk chicken and it tasted like barbecue sauce which wasn't what i was expecting. Not bad food, but not the best Jamaican food I've had in Indy. I wouldn't go back, Jamaican reggae grill in Carmel is much better and a little less expensive. They also emailed my receipt to my work email. I'm not sure how they got that from my personal credit card as the two are absolutely not connected. It was strange. read more

As others have mentioned, with takeout, the portions were ridiculously small. Overall the food was pretty decent taste-wise, but we felt absolutely ripped off. Maybe you fare better dining in, and if we ever try that I'll update my review, but I can't recommend them based on our poor takeout experience. My wife and I didn't want a ton of rice and beans so the Ocho-Rios Double seemed perfect - two meals, with just one serving of rice and beans and one side, and save a few bucks. More accurately, it was "Ocho-Rios Double: one meal for the price of two." As you can see in the picture, we received less food for our double meal than others have for one. Plus, the chicken on the fork in the lower left was the entire amount in the serving, and the other entree contained about 1/4 of the meat off of a chicken thigh. Insulting. I ordered 2 oxtail dinner and a rum punch. The rum punch had more juice than rum and it tasted like koolaid. The oxtail dinners were mediocre. When I walked in the restaurant I didn't smell anything cooking and the lighting is a little dim. I was so excited I found a Jamaican spot near by only to get the food home and for it to taste like it was warmed up. Perhaps they had an off day but for $40+ I won't be returning to find out. I was so excited to hear indianapolis had another Caribbean restaurant. I love jerk chicken so I couldn't wait to try it here. I got a carry out order of the jerk chicken dinner with rice and peas and steamed veggies . I also got an order of the fried plantains. They don't come with the dinner . The bbq sauce they put on the chicken is pretty good . I wish they had a spicy one . I prefer spicy jerk chicken . Next time I come out this way I will try another dish . This place is pretty far down Pendleton in Lawrence. I live on the west side so it was a quite a drive to get there . Nice place and I love the way they decorated the inside. read more

Wonderful service! Amazing food! Perfect ambience! The prices are compatible with the quality of food they serve. The sounds of Jamaica through the speakers create more of an island feel but there are multiple screens with news and sports playing as well. This review pertains to their food truck which is currently at the Indiana Government Center South. The prices are reasonable food truck costs. They have decent meals, but I opted for a la carte. I paid $4 for my Jamaican beef patty and $4 for my portion of fried plantains. The plantains were seasoned well. A bit heavy on the grease, but still delicious. I have never been to Jamaica but this place sure made me want to go! Restaurant is warm, relaxing, and inviting. Has the right music and ambiance. Restaurant was neat & clean. Wait staff fast & friendly. All staff was very welcoming. It is casual and has some outdoor seating. They have beer and wine as well as liquor. I went for lunch. Food was fresh hot and delicious. However the prices are way to high... never in my life have a beef patty on a menu for $3.95. Seriously they are taking advantage of people and the chicken patty I had was not even flaky or crispy. This Soca Mac&cheese is a joke it's a over rated kraft (blue box) mac and cheese with some Cajun seasoning on it. In the pictures you will see what four dollars gets you know I love supporting black owned and operated business and I applaud Da Blue Lagoon for the there since of diversity I have never a white guy and a Latina girl work in a Jamaican restaurant matter fact I've never seen anyone that wasn't Jamaican work in a Jamaican restaurant. We recently visited this place for dinner and were delighted by how nice of a place it was. The folks who work here are friendly and chill. I am vegan so I want vegan food the majority of the time, however, rarely I will loosen up my needs in order to try something that sounds very tantalizing. This was an exception. I ordered the Vegetarian Delight and I also wanted the Jamaican Soup and Salad. The Delight was a huge platter of rice and beans with cabbage and other veggies sauteed on one side and friend plantains on the other. Very good taste. The Jamaican Soup and Salad..... I told the lady I was vegan (Vegetarian this meal only) and she told me that there was a soup that had meat in it so I only had the salad. Sadly they do not make the coconut soup much due to lack of interest. :O A word on the salad. It was delicious greens with slices of strawberries and mangos and a raspberry vinaigrette dressing on the side. The salad also comes with walnuts (I have an allergy) and feta cheese. Due to allergy I could not eat the salad so she whisked it away and even offered to leave the feta off too which was fantastic. Over all a really great experience. My honey ordered the Jerk Pork with man n cheese and the cabbage/carrot veggies. He really liked the seasoning on the meat and he really enjoyed the cabbage dish as well. Being from out of town and a foodie, we searched on yelp and found this gem. I have never been to Jamaica, but I watch lots of food shows and have always wanted to try this style food. We came in and we were the only people there, but service was great. I suppose the owner was there and he was kind and friendly and helpful. The food was dynamite. Unfortunately my perfect review from 2 years ago has lost a few Stars. In my original post I reference choosing Da Blue Lagoon for Thanksgiving and it being a perfect addition, however I have since visited this establishment a few times since then with the hopes that I would be wow'd or impressed, and that just did not happen. I last visited just over weeks ago, I called the restaurant to place my order ahead and no one answered. I said they must have a humongous crowd tonight and are just too busy to get to the phone, that was not the case. When I arrived there was only one couple dining in in a dimly lit restaurant, you almost would not have known that they were even open for business. As I was leaving, the young lady turned one more lights, interesting. I ordered oxtails that came with cabbage and rice, also fried red snapper. I was told that it would be 15 to 20 minutes, I returned in 30 to 35 minutes as I was able to go elsewhere and place an order for my children. When I return I waited an additional 10 to 15 minutes for my food. The to go carriers were heavy and as I expected, it was majority rice that was certainly not freshly made. The oxtail also did not have an appearance of being recently made, of course this I did not find out about until I made it home. The fish was nice, I wasn't expecting the head to be attached, I didn't ask for an entire fish with head but that's my fault. I did not purchase it for myself but because of the head the person that I did purchase it for would not eat it. I have to say that I was happy to have it because the oxtail didn't do It for me nor did the rice or bland cabbage. It was a disappointment to say the least especially since it came with a healthy price tag. I have tried at least three other places that offer oxtails and all were better than Da Blue Lagoon, that's unfortunate because this location is the closest to me. read more

We visited today- 2 adults and 2 children. We were greeted right away and the server was very nice. The food was amazing! Kid's ordered coconut shrimp. I got the island trio, and my husband got jerk chicken. We ate as much as we could and still had leftovers. We will be going back. Update- we got take out and it was a bad. So this place is tucked away in a corner and you would probably never notice it, but I am tell you to make a stop if you are close. The food is the closest thing you are going to get if you are a fan of Jamaican food. I did think the service was fair, but it seemed disorganized at times and I feel like with great food, the service should match. I hope this place continues to get better. read more

We ordered throug GrubHub, the food was still nice and hot when delivered. Overall not terrible but not great either. I got the seafood dinner platter which was tasty, the coconut shrimp was particularly good. Unfortunately the rice and beans were missing, so was my side of fried plantain, the restaurant never reached out to inform us these items were unavailable or ask if they could substitute anything. The salad that came with the meal was just cabbage mix and canned pineapple and the cabbage was soggy, wilted, and not fresh. My fries were placed under the fish and shrimp which kept them nice and hot but also made them soggy. We also got the beef patties meal. The patties were kind of bland, some spice but no savory beefy flavor and you mostly taste the pastry, definitely not as good as Patties of Jamaica. Im pretty sure the sauce that came with the patties was just store bought BBQ sauce (tasted kinda like sweet baby ray's) and the "pinacolada lime" sauce tasted like warm pinacolada mix and was very watery. read more

The chicken quarter was so dry and the meat was tough like the food had been sitting all day. I was also charged $2 for two tiny ramekin of bbq sauce. What a rip off. Order the oxtail!! It comes with rice and plantains and fills up a good container! It's essentially pot roast with the flavors cranked up by 1000%! I will be going back. Finally made it to Da Blue Lagoon for lunch today after hearing about it from colleagues for a while. My husband and I split an order of patties (one chicken, one beef), and then the sampler platter which is served with curry chicken, jerk chicken, and Fricasse(sp?) chicken(stew), with plaintains and black beans and rice. We also had an order of festivals. I didn't care for the festivals, they were very bland- and dough-y. The patties were delicious, especially the chicken. The chicken patty was filled with their curry chicken, so it had tons of flavor and the pastry was flakey and buttery. The trio sampler was great, the best meat being the jerk chicken. Moist and had tons of flavor. The plantains were good, and so was the stew and the curry chicken, but I would go for the jerk chicken again in the future for sure. The food took a while to come out, but it was from scratch so I understand. Service was fine, we were the only people in the restaurant (11am, so right when they opened for the day). My only gripe was the bathroom, the seat was dirty and the sink had paper towels in it. I didn't feel comfortable using it, and I don't consider myself a princess about bathrooms- this one was just too dirty to use. read more

The oxtails were very good! Rice and peas could have used some cooking in chicken broth to help the beans not dry out. Plantains were okay, could have been flatten more and a little more sugar sprinkled evenly...overall first time having Jamaican food and it was good! The Bob Marley daiquiri was sooooo good, the colors were so beautiful and bright made me feel like I was @ Jamaica. The restaurant gives you a feel of being in Jamaica but the decor can be a little more Authentic with the feeling of being on an island..can't wait to see the upcoming new improvements that are too come! My husband loves Jamaican food, so we were excited to have somewhere close by to get some! Very authentic, pretty minimalistic restaurant. It tends to be pretty quiet when we are there, especially during the week. The jerk chicken has good spice and flavor, and I love the seasoned fries. The rum punch is pretty darn close to what we had in Jamaica, and the daiquiris come in huge glasses. The patties are not my favorite in the world, but they will do when authentic Jamaica isn't around the corner. read more
