This little gem is loaded up with gorgeousness from St Martins, Desigual, Custo and Almost Famous to name a few. Every piece is quirky and makes you feel you really need it sooo badly it hurts. Every rail has got something which will make you throw a hissy fit to get it. What do you mean that's only me? Doesn't everyone stamp their feet in public? When times are good, I love to go to Lulu Blu and treat myself to something fabulous and although there are some pretty expensive pieces in there like Custo dresses for over £200, there are also some really affordable little gems like summer dresses around £30. Be quick though as those are the bits that are only on the rails for a few days. The more expensive stuff is perfect for special occasions when you don't want to run the risk of wearing the same as someone else. Social suicide darling, no? A word to the recessionista - the sale is fantastic, but again get your pretty little skates on as the bargains don't wait around for snoozers! Ps the jewellery is always fab and always affordable. Who actually needs food?!

I don't normally go for this sort of thing but I am inclined to have a good look once in a while, just in case there is something to change my mind, because it's a pleasant shop to be in and the people are friendly. Though not cheap you could be making a sound investment in buying something from here and if you don't see yourself in the clothes there are some beautiful bags of the same vein which should cheer up any outfit.

Loving the Zip Yard! These ladies have come to my rescue many many times and kudos to them for it…read more The Zip Yard is run as a franchise business and the Belmont Road branch is really good. Take them any kind of alteration and they'll have it done in a day or two and done really well. They can do pretty much anything and will take your garments from you either already pinned or will take you into the chainging room and pin you into your dress or whatever to make sure that the measurements are exactly right. I had a formal dress altered in this way and it turned out perfect - fitted exactly and the stitching was billiant. They have also done a small job for me free of charge which I thought was fab. Ladies of the Zip Yard, I salute you.

I found the Belmont Road Zip Yard by recommendation of another sewing company, Ritefit, who…read morecouldn't do the repair by the time I needed it but were kind enough to suggest the Zip Yard instead. I'd already been told about the merits of the Zip Yard by another friend so the company should congratulate themselves on how well they are going down with all and sundry, mostly women who need this sort of service. All I can do here is join the chorus of previous recommendations. The job I required was new zip to be put into a skirt that I'd bought with a broken one for £3.00 in a New Look sale. True to their word, the Zip Yard had the skirt ready for me on the day they said they would. It cost £7.00, so I ended up getting a nice skirt for £10.00 in the end. Good result.

I mean, what else? It was almost a family tradition, deep rooted in the hearts and minds of my younger sibling and I. We automatically knew Friday meant sweetie day at The Wingrove. Ahh, good times. The Wingrove was one of those newsagents where everyone knew each other, and we were served by the same old wee woman every week. The old-fashioned layout of the confectionery was situated in tiers at the counter, and even though we went for nearly the same packet of sweets every week, many minutes were spent gazing in awe at the sheer variety of these candied goods, packed full of dear only knows what. (I can tell you, not much has changed...I'm probably even more indecisive now. Or maybe not). I honestly have no idea how my mum put up with two sugar saturated young girls, who were practically bouncing off the ceiling. Those 'E' numbers have a lot to answer for. On occasion, ice lollies were permitted, and maybe even a magazine if we were lucky. The Wingrove also supplied a small number of greetings cards (that kept my mum happy), and a few toys (I can't remember how many times we had to prise my sister away from the dolls). Oh, those were the days... The Wingrove has recently undergone a facelift, with a brand spanking new sleek black and white sign, as well as a furniture rearrangement (well, you know what I mean), which was incredibly strange to see when I popped in for the first time in I don't know how many years. I'm so chuffed to see The Wingrove still going strong, feeding and amusing lots of happy school children. Thank goodness for the lack of 'E' numbers these days mind you, that's all I can say...
