I like the Dickie's "cell phone pants" - thusly named for weird cell phone sized pockets in the right pant legs. It was only $15 for pairs in oddball colors, just like the last time I was here and bought an orange pair. I was tempted to go for a sky blue pair this time, but decided $40 on a pair of overalls was enough to drop for one day. They had a bunch of funky caps and visors by the front door, like caps with the old Pistons logo or Memphis ABA caps. You can also find socks, t-shirts and drawers here, though you might find them for a better price at Cheap Charlie's. How can you not love a clothing store that has an autographed photo of Ice T to greet you right when you walk in the door? My blood pressure drops when I walk into National Dry Goods, perhaps because I associate it with my personal cloak against uptightness - a good pair of overalls.

This place is very urban, catering to city residents, parents shopping for DPS school uniforms, and community groups buying screen printed items. That said, I was very comfortable there and was assisted by a top notch staff, including the security guy that was wearing an insulated waterproof/windproof Carhartt baseball that has become my favorite item of clothing. I chose to work directly with them instead of going through a third party to have some high-end fleeces and vests embroidered with our company logo and they turned out absolutely beautiful. One of the women who worked on our pieces has 20 years of experience and it shows in the quality of the embroidery. Their prices are very fair and worth the drive to Westland to drop things off and pick them up; I'm sure you could also have items shipped directly to them to be embroidered. Every time I went in, they seemed to be very busy, but they always made time for me and even put a rush on an order for me when I left out a few pieces. Thanks to them, I still hit my deadline! I worked directly with Marisa, but everyone I met was very helpful and the process was very smooth. I look forward to working with them every year.
