I'm not sure if D & J is more of a museum or an antique shop. DeAnn and Joe are unbelievably friendly - especially if you look patently obvious as an out-of-towner. Joe even offered me cornbread and beans that they happened to be having for lunch. That's Texas Hospitality. Granted, I came in because I saw a sign that said Dutch Boy bread baked fresh daily. Turned out that's an antique sign. Get lost in another time. A perfect reason to spent an hour or so as a time traveler. read more

If they don't have it then you don't need it. Seriously this is not an upscale antique store. It is a junky treasure store. Old clothing, newspapers, toys even medical supplies. They had a mermaid chair. How many places are you going to find that? You may have to look close for what you want but I guarantee you it is there. The owners were very friendly and had stories behind some of the pieces. If you are in the area this is a fun store to waste some time in. read more

Great shop! If you like eclectic smalls, you'll love this place. I'm an avid antique-er and junker from NC. The next time we're in Texas, we'll definitely stop. I had my husband, two adult children, and my mother-in-law with me. We were eating lunch nearby, and I ran in while we waited for our food. I came back to the restaurant and announced that we all had to go there. We were there forever. My son told DeAnn that he usually hates antique shops, but that her place was great. I thought the prices were a little high, but when I gathered a number of small items and asked DeAnn what her best price was, she made me a very good offer! So make sure to bargain a little (but do it nicely - you're in the South). Very eclectic with great displays! And some of the more unusual things I've seen, like a collection of porcelain prosthetic eyeballs displayed in an antique spool cabinet. Have fun! read more

Hands down THE best antique store in Texas. When I travel I have to brag on this store. I have never seen a store that's full of so many unique finds and oddities. The owners have poured themselves into making this a unique experience. The store is deceiving on the outside as it looks like every other small town antique store. It is not! They have themed rooms, decorating ideas, the most off and unique stuff I have seen. They are constantly changing the floor plan and adding and moving things around. The wife is incredible creative and I have seen her design some amazing things out of discarded antiques. Definitely a must see. It's a hidden gem in central Texas. Another reviewer said that if they don't have it at D&J's, you don't need it. Believe me.....they have it! This store is pure gold! I was astounded by the sheer variety and number of items in there....everything from housewares to architectural salvage. Old clothes, books, buttons, china and glassware, furniture, dolls....you name it. I don't normally write reviews, but I feel that this is one review that I find worth sharing to you. I recently moved to Texas from Washington, DC and have lived here since December. Within that time, I have been in an endless search for a quality antique store. One day I decided to explore my new state and I saw D&J's antique store in Brady and decided to stop. I am really thankful I did! When walking into the store, I saw the variety of antiques in the store and really liked what I saw. My original intention was to only stay in the store for 20 minutes but found myself in there for several hours. When walking into the store, I noticed that the owners (DeAnn and Joe) truly took pride in what they did by the display and the attention to detail that they took in arranging the antiques. I was first greeted by DeAnn who was very attentive to my needs and took a personal interest in helping me to find what I am looking for. Since my initial visit to DeAnn and Joe's, I make it a point to drive out to the store, which is approximately 80 miles from where I live. I know I am a complete stranger off the street but I ask you to trust me when I say that D&J's is DEFINITELY worth the drive despite the distance! I have been to many antique stores along the Eastern U.S. Seaboard, but, in my opinion, D&J's is truly one of a kind. Both DeAnn and Joe make it a priority to refresh their stock so that each time I visit, I am always seeing something new. I often see the owners looking for new antiques from across the country. I used to have D&J's as a waypoint when driving to Austin or some other city, but now D&J's is my destination. When I have visitors in town, we dedicate the time to visit DeAnn and Joe's store and we often drive away with a trunk load full of stuff. Several months ago I was circling the old courthouse and noticed a lot of interesting antique "stuff" sitting out on the sidewalk in front of what looked like several stores. I did a U-turn, pulled into a parking space, and discovered a real gem, unlike any place I've seen anywhere else, in Europe or the U.S. ... If you like the stuff on the "American Pickers" TV show you will love D&J's, except D&J's is far better. ... Several empty downtown stores are now interconnected into one large emporium of, ... well, ... it's hard to describe because it's so ultra-eclectic and just plain fun. Where else might you find a stainless steel and porcelain mortuary table sitting next to a beautiful golden baby grand piano with a large stuffed Texas bobcat lounging serenely on it? Nearby was a heavy table made from a hatch salvaged from an actual slave ship. I could go on and on for a week and still not describe the things to be discovered at D&J's. ... It's a decorator's gold mine with everything from old doors to oil paintings, antique furniture, and 100-year-old bling. Lots of turn-of-the century and 40's and 50's clothes, too. ... When word gets out, D&J's will be nationally famous as a decorator's Mecca. Joe and Deanne Everidge are the nicest people you will ever meet. They invited me to look around at my leisure and just ask if there was something special I was looking for. You will discover that Deanne has, shall we say, a "unique" sense of humor, reflected in her whimsical, sometimes hilarious, displays. ... Joe is the quiet and knowledgeable historian. Once you see this place you will want to return. Plan on spending more time there than you would expect. I found their prices to range from insignificant (less than a dollar) to quite a bit more for the substantial items, but I've also found them usually to be lower than the average seen at other places. Sometimes prices are negotiable. I now always stop at D&J's every time I pass through Brady. I also plan on spending at least an hour because their content is always slightly changed from the previous visit. It's like a time machine. I'd give six stars if I could. read more
