Several months ago I was circling the old courthouse and noticed a lot of interesting antique "stuff" sitting out on the sidewalk in front of what looked like several stores. I did a U-turn, pulled into a parking space, and discovered a real gem, unlike any place I've seen anywhere else, in Europe or the U.S. ... If you like the stuff on the "American Pickers" TV show you will love D&J's, except D&J's is far better. ... Several empty downtown stores are now interconnected into one large emporium of, ... well, ... it's hard to describe because it's so ultra-eclectic and just plain fun. Where else might you find a stainless steel and porcelain mortuary table sitting next to a beautiful golden baby grand piano with a large stuffed Texas bobcat lounging serenely on it? Nearby was a heavy table made from a hatch salvaged from an actual slave ship. I could go on and on for a week and still not describe the things to be discovered at D&J's. ... It's a decorator's gold mine with everything from old doors to oil paintings, antique furniture, and 100-year-old bling. Lots of turn-of-the century and 40's and 50's clothes, too. ... When word gets out, D&J's will be nationally famous as a decorator's Mecca. Joe and Deanne Everidge are the nicest people you will ever meet. They invited me to look around at my leisure and just ask if there was something special I was looking for. You will discover that Deanne has, shall we say, a "unique" sense of humor, reflected in her whimsical, sometimes hilarious, displays. ... Joe is the quiet and knowledgeable historian. Once you see this place you will want to return. Plan on spending more time there than you would expect. I found their prices to range from insignificant (less than a dollar) to quite a bit more for the substantial items, but I've also found them usually to be lower than the average seen at other places. Sometimes prices are negotiable. I now always stop at D&J's every time I pass through Brady. I also plan on spending at least an hour because their content is always slightly changed from the previous visit. It's like a time machine. I'd give six stars if I could. read more
