We absolutely loved our experience here. It's exactly as described on their website. The feeling of hygge is everywhere. A place where locals and tourists come together and enjoy comfort food and drinks in a cozy and warm atmosphere. If you like what you see around you, then buy it. It's all for sale. Such a cool & unique concept! This place is very popular, and for good reason. Just step inside and seat yourself.
It didn't take long to place our order. Don't be hesitant to ask for an English menu. They're not readily available at the table, but they do have them. We ordered the Bockor Pilsner while browsing the menu. I had seen pictures of the Chicken Pie that looked incredibly good. It was too tempting to pass up. Our waiter asked if we wanted straw fries with it. I kind of wish we had taken him up on that offer. We were just concerned that it may be too much since the pie can feed up to 3 people supplemented with side dishes. Our eyes widened when we saw how big it was. Don't be deceived by the size of it. It truly was enough for both of us as a main entrée. The puff pastry on top makes it look heavy, but it's actually very light. It's so much better than any other version of chicken pot pie. It's the best I've ever had in terms of creaminess & flavor. It had mushrooms, carrots, and leeks. The Flemish chicken was plentiful, and a very good quality chicken. It wasn't over salted. My husband immediately commented on that. It was perfect in every way. Even the pastry crust was amazing. We didn't leave much of anything behind. It was our favorite meal of the trip!
Honestly, I'd be here all the time if I lived in Ypres. It's a great place for tea, coffee, lunch, dinner, dessert, or even a snack. That's the first thing I noticed is that a cup of bar snacks is immediately brought out with your drinks. They were very tasty as well. My only disappointment is that we didn't have time for dessert. Have you seen the dessert menu? I believe everything is made in house. There was love in every bite. Don't pass this one up when in Grote Markt. There were more locals here enjoying the warmth & service despite this restaurant being in a touristy part of the city. As I said before, it's popular for a reason. Thank you to the owners and staff for the wonderful experience. read more
