This place is great!…read more We came here many times in just a few days... should have just rented a room here (1300 php for 2-people, 1600 php for 4-people) but they were sold out when we arrived. (Call ahead for availability and current pricing.) The rooms are cool. They have a downstairs and upstairs loft area for bedding. Fan only, but the ocean breeze is all ya need. ;-) Good bathrooms. The main draw here is the variety of craft beer and drinks. We love the dragonfruit beer. LoL Their IPA and Juicy Double Dry Hop are also very popular. They are working up to 12-taps and also have infused liquor, coffee drinks, cock and mocktails, and sodas. The food is fantastic and fresh. We tried many things, the breakfast bowl with egg and potato, the shrimp tacos with coleslaw and creamy sriracha, and the carnitas taco with salsa (spicy). They were all delicious. They also have oatmeal and peanut butter options, if you're looking for healthy eats. Eric and Ellen run the place and they are both so nice. Eric is the social half and interesting to talk to. He has really strong eco-friendly POVs. :-) The environment there is perfect, too. They have a great ocean view and comfy swing up front. Check them out for Taco Tuesday's, if you want a taco for 80php. Other things are promo'd that night, too! Might see ya there!
Grand Pensionne Plaza Hotel
This is my probably my fourth or fifth stay with Grand Pensionne Plaza and I'm very happy to say…read moreit's as good as I remembered. I opted for a family room at php1100.00 and I was super surprised that the room was HUGE! It had a ref, a queen-sized, and twin-sized bed, and a huge bathroom! I love that the a/c is strong and that the room has a 32-inch wall-mounted TV. The bedsheets smell freshly laundried and the pillows are soft and sufficiently plump. The frontdesk people are polite and they really go out of their way to help you feel right at home. The hotel is also conveniently located near downtown and a short walk away from banks and restaurants. Wifi is strong too! I'd definitely recommend this hotel to travellers who want to have a good night's sleep on a budget. Thank you Grand Pensionne Plaza Hotel for another awesome stay. :).

They Breakfast was tasty though as true throughout much of the Philippines, the coffee isn't anything to write home about. I stuck with the tea. Odd thing is the cups are already small and they only fill them a little more than 1/2 way. Always had to ask for more.

While I know some guests enjoy the water-facing rooms, ours unfortunately faced another room's window, so we kept the curtains closed the entire stay. This made the room feel dark and uncomfortable. The room was extremely outdated and very cramped, especially with two twin beds--there was barely any space to move around. The overall atmosphere felt unsettling, almost as if the building had been converted from a hospital, giving it a creepy vibe. The bathroom was especially disappointing: -Black mold on the ceiling -Worn-down mirror and shower that felt more like a rundown hostel -The only positive was the complimentary shower shoes, which were very much needed The bedding was also an issue since the sheets felt itchy, and I refused to use the blanket. The air in both the room and lobby felt stuffy and old, and I found myself coughing throughout the night. I've heard the food is good and that there's a rooftop area, but after the overall experience, I had no interest in exploring further. Thankfully, we only stayed one night. Bottom line: This property is marketed higher than it should be and realistically feels like a 1-star hotel. It may work if you're only looking for a budget stay in a prime location, but if cleanliness, comfort, or atmosphere matter to you, I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere.

What you need to consider is just the beach line is not pure sand but mix with a little mud, you need to go a little bit far if you want to enjoy the beach, and go snorkel around. In terms of relaxing this is a great place. Also quite far from the main port., you need to rent a motorcycle or have a service to go here. You will definitely love the internet speed in this resort! Just lacking one star for me is the affordability of the food, quite expensive. I mean they have great food though the pricing is a little bit expensive. This is near Salagdooing beach so its a plus!
Optimum Pension House
Optimum Pension House is one of Dumaguete's newer hotels…read more Getting to the address can be a struggle as it's a fee distance away from the main highway. Thankfully, most trike drivers are familiar with its location so you probably won't get lost trying to find it. As you enter the hotel, you'll notice that the reception area is kinda dark. The area behind the reception desk is also a bit messy. Don't let that bother you because the rooms are really new. Room rates range between php650 (single occupancy without water heater) to php980 (double occupancy with water heater). Family rooms are about php1100-1400. We got room 106 which is located at the ground floor. The room is small but looks and smells clean. The bed is soft but not that soft that you'll sink to the middle once you sleep on it. The pillows, mattress, and the blanket all smell fresh. No stains and other icky remnants can be found on the bed on and the sheets. There's a work desk so you can do whatever is is you need to work on of the office but note that there are only two power sockets. The first one is for the TV and the other one is free. You might want to bring an extension cord with you so you can charge multiple gadgets. There are bath soaps and shampoo provided but that's that. You need to bring with you other toiletries as those are the only ones provided. The bathroom area is a bit small too but there are two showerheads. During our stay, the portable showerhead was a hit and miss - at times it works, other times it doesn't. Also remember to request for rooms with hot shower as not all rooms have it. Optimum Pension House is a good place to stay when on a budget. Dumaguete is a great city and you're better off spending your cash on the food and the experience anyway. Save cash for shopping by staying in this hotel.
