He responded to our emails and texts very promptly as we were planning our trip and gave us a lot of route advice when we arrived. He is willing to pick up and drop off bikes at your destination or, in our case, meet us at the train station with bikes. His rates are very reasonable and the area surrounding Fontainbleu is really a biker's paradise. I would highly recommend!

The Loire à Velo paths are super easy to follow and the guys here will give you a map of the routes. It was 15€ to rent a bike for the day, plus a 300€ deposit (which wasn't really a deposit; the guy just wrote down my credit card number and said he'd only charge me if the bike was lost or damaged). The basic bike is made for all-terrain, which comes in handy for those charming French cobblestone streets as well as paved bike paths. It took a bit of practice to shift gears, but they worked well, as did the brakes. The seatpost doesn't require a special tool to adjust so you can move it up and down as you need to. They also give you a repair kit, small pump, cable lock and key. I didn't get a helmet, nor do I feel like I needed one. The bike paths are so smooth and easy to ride, and I was passed by maybe three cars all day. It's also easy to take your bike on the TER (regional) train in one or both directions for your ride. One of the train cars has big drawings of bikes on the side, and just when you enter, you'll see 3 hooks where you hang your bike vertically by the rim of the front tire. It was very easy to do. You can also arrange to drop off your bike at one of the many partner shops throughout the Loire, so for example you could get your bike in Blois, ride to Amboise, then leave the bike in Amboise and take the train back. I definitely recommend renting a bike as an unforgettable way to see the Loire and its chateaux!

But my pedal started sticking a couple miles down the road, by the time we arrived at Chambord, the pedal would barely turn and my knee was in severe pain. Leaving Chambord the pedal actually fell off. Because I had no cell phone service, I could not contact the company about the issue. I had to bike the remaining 20km on one pedal. By the time we arrived in Blois, my knee was in so much pain, we decided we couldn't continue our long planned bike trip down the river. The following morning we took our bikes into the local rental office and we were told we were out of luck. We rented 2 bikes for a 3 day trip down the Loire river and only had 1 working bike for 1 day and we were charged the full amount. We had planned this trip for a year and I was so excited to bike along the Loire and our trip was ruined because we were given a bike that had not been checked before we rented it. I understand that mistakes happen, but I was shocked that our money was not refunded. I would be cautious with renting with this company. They do not stand behind their service.

I emailed the owner, Patrick Contreau, and he offered to rent us quality road bikes (Trek and Orbea) with solid components (Shimano 105) for 65E each per week. Patrick was tremendously helpful, knowledgeable about the region, and accommodating of our pick-up and delivery needs. If I understand correctly, he's a former track racer and very precision minded. Remy, the owner, is always helpful and cheery whenever I pass by. It's so nice, I feel like I'm back home in California. He is clearly passionate about bikes and getting people into cycling. It's not the biggest shop with the largest selection, carrying primarily TREK and Giant, but if you need something that they don't have, they are always willing to order for you. I have actually requested special orders from other shops, in brands that the shop carries, and have been completely dismissed. This is my first Yelp review, inspired by this excellent shop. Laurent est tres gentil et extremement competent. Il a repondu rapidement a toute communication. Il a fait tour du monde a moto, et connait son propre pays tres bien. Bien pres de la gare SCNF, il etait tres facile d'arriver en place. Je ne suis pas allee en tournee avec sa compagnie. J'ai loue un moto pour faire mon propre voyage.
