Maybe I'm biased because we used to live in the same apartment complex but he is just great. It's wonderful to have a positive personality when you walk into a gas station convenience store. I can't imagine that the job is very easy, stress-free or relaxing. Also, the gas prices here aren't bad. In the past, they have been lower than average but right now they are about average. Considering the other prices in the area, you can't do much better unless you venture out of town. This is my complaint: a few months ago they started allowing a car-cleaner business that sells cleaning spray park it's employees at this Mobil and harass anyone coming in to get gas to try and buy their product. It's gotten to the point that when I see one of these guys coming towards my car, I either A) Tell them immediately I'm not interested B) Jump into my car and speed off or C) Take out the dog to scare them away (all depends on whether I'm done pumping gas, who is coming at me, and how I feel like dealing with it that day). The product is complete crap, I DID give it a try once as the saleswoman said it would remove bugs from my bumper.... all it did was put an awful smear all over my paint job and my windshield that didn't come off until I scrubbed it with dish soap. Dish soap, people, is the cure-all for exterior car cleaning. Not unknown aerosols that people try to sell you at the pump! It's so unfortunate when legitimate businesses that I want to patronize are ruined by hood stuff like sketchy salespeople and sketchy products. Please get rid of them! I'd rather buy perfume in unmarked bottles from the crazy lady at 7-11 than this garbage. As for the gas station and it's specific employees, still great.

Today's lunch was a vegan "chicken" salad pita and tofu "chicken" fingers with maple dijon dipping sauce. It's hard to pick a favorite; they're both tasty, but I think I'm going to pick the pita. I like the chewiness of the "chicken" pieces and the soft crunch of the celery; by contrast, the tofu fingers are drier and tougher. There's also vegan tuna salad subs, "macrobiotic" entrees (memo from the 1980s: I do not think it means what you think it means), and more traditional choices made with actual meat. At the back of the store, you can get barbecue, including roasted chicken and macaroni and cheese. I haven't had anything from that side of the store yet, but I'll report back on the mac and cheese when I get the chance. [It's hard to know how to split things up. USF calls three named locations (POD (Provisions On Demand (got enough parentheses yet?)) Market, Smokehouse BBQ to Go, and Starbucks) one name, "Around the Horn". For me, the distinction is that you pay for Starbucks at Starbucks and they take the Starbucks card as payment, but you pay for Smokehouse BBQ and POD Market at the same register. On the other hand, the Smokehouse BBQ is only open 11am-9pm, and the rest of POD Market is open until 1am.] Note: this is on the USF campus, and it won't be worth your trouble to buy a visitor parking pass just to eat here, but if you insist, you might want to look for metered spaces just north of the Beard garage.
