My wife contacted William Martin from Custom Fence, and not surprisingly he was able to come the next day. He quoted $800.00 to fabricate gates from privacy fence panels. One gate was to be a five-foot, and one gate to be ten feet, comprised of two five-foot panels, and install into existing openings. I let him know how I expected the panels to be reinforced, with a single piece of 2x4 on each side of the panel, mitered to fit into mitered top rail and bottom rail of the fence panel. He said "yeah, yeah", like he understood how I wanted it done. Approximately two hours in, I went out to find that he either doesn't know how to miter cut boards or was deliberately doing it the way he felt like doing it. He was adding short pieces of 2x4 in between the rails of the first fence panel. I told William Martin that I was not happy with the workmanship, and he responded by trying to defend himself, saying that they do this all the time, which would explain Custom Fence's 1-star rating. I demanded he stops work at this time and asked what he wanted for what he had done. William Martin said $200.00, I promptly wrote him a check for $200.00, then he had the nerve to ask me if the check was going to be good when he is the one trying to take advantage of me. As he was backing out of my yard I noticed either William Martin or his helper had left a cell phone on the ground near my gate hardware, I shouted that someone left the phone, and his helper came and picked up the phone. I received a notification from my bank that the check had been cashed, less than two hours from the time William Martin received it. Who is the jerk in this encounter? I have to say, William Martin! I have photos please look closely at them. By the way when I undid his so called "work", he was using cement coated nails on pressure treated wood! One of my sawhorses was broken also. read more
