Honestly, there's nothing going on here at Custard Hut that's noteworthy or surprising. It's your typical small town old school drive up ice cream shop. Just to get the ten thousand pound gorilla out of the way, let's talk briefly about the prices. While not located on the boardwalk this place charges boardwalk style prices with boardwalk sized portions. In other words if you're looking for value you might want to go somewhere else because it's not happening here. Unless they start serving sundaes on a shovel Uncle Buck style the value ratio here is way off. For an apples to apples to comparison they charge about fifteen percent more for a milkshake that's probably fifteen to twenty percent smaller than a place that's local to me. Caveat Emptor. Lemon Italian Ice - Milkshake - Peanut Butter Sundae - Coffee flavored Blizzard type thing The ice was good enough. It's not South Philly Wooder Ice quality, but it was alright. The other three flavor wise were as expected but again when you're spending six bucks for medium of something... it's a little off putting. Unlike a few other reviewers, there was no issue with the service as everything came up fast and friendly. Also the outside seating area is well maintained and we had it all to ourselves on a beautiful summer day. I hadn't been here in years and maybe now I remember why. I guess to some locals and yearly shoobies this place has achieved icon status after being around for forty years but to me it's just not worth what you're spending. (and of course don't forget, cash only)

PRETTY SURE IT'S CASH ONLY - but there is an ATM on site. Creamy custard, as good as it gets. Smooth Italian ice, saturated with flavor. Put the two together, and you're sure to be satisfied after a hot day at the beach. Water Ice/ Wooder Ice/ Italian Ice - it's not a thing in the Southern part of the country. I would never dream that frozen flavored water would mesh well with creamy custard. But alas, the Gelati is the absolute best summer treat. I had the mango flavored water ice and the vanilla custard - there's only about 6 or 7 water ice flavors: cherry, mango, watermelon, rootbeer...and a few others. I ordered the medium Gelati, and it came in a huge cup. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind ordering a large. Every bite was the perfect combo of sweet, tart, and creamy. After a day spent in the sun, this was the ideal dinner. (Yup - DINNER. The joys of being a grown-up) There's lots and lots of outdoor seating all around, so come make a date of it.

A very nice custard stand on the Mainland near Ocean City

When you cross over the causeway from Ocean City to the mainland, you don't leave all the ice cream shops behind. In fact one place has become very popular over the years because it offers convenient parking and fair prices and is very close to the entrance to the Garden State Parkway. That place would be Custard Hut in Somers Point. They have both soft serve as well as hard ice cream and offer many additional concoctions utilizing these tasty treats. My personal favorite is a soft serve strawberries & cream cone. The flavor is outstanding and just right on a summer day! Tip - Behind and to the right of the ice cream eatery is an attractive eating area which has picnic tables and lots of trees and flowers.

Not a bad line for a Saturday night

Good thick chocolate milkshake... most of the time. I say most of the time because the five times I've been here I've only had one that wasn't great. It was real good, but not great. Awesome selection friendly service all in all happy happy place :) Ok I'm sad to report the milkshake is not as thick the last 2 times, so I'm sorry I have to remove a star :(

While vacationing in OCNJ, I always had heard about this place and wanted to try it. It's certainly a nice departure from the Khors Brothers soft serve, but it was just fine. It's a bit over priced, as a small custard with jimmies in a cone was close to $5 and the sundaes were about $8. Otherwise, a decent place, but wish the pricing was a bit better.

Not sure if we will continue to go there. Prices are high for portions and ice cream was a bit bland.

Visited for the first time tonight and loved the Reese's pieces sundae. Tons of chocolate and peanut butter sauce along with candy pieces!

Yummy ice cream. Decent prices. Ices and ice cream are both good quality. We stop by en route to the GSP.

Not family friendly. My toddler had a "potty emergency". Would not let her use the restroom. Go to Annie's instead.

Ice cream is ( spell check ) Bassett's , some of the best in the USA and oldest in Phila ! You know…read moreits real when it's cold and this is as cold as Hilary Clinton was to Bill after his stint with Monica lol ! Its cold dammit. ! The service is 5 star, supper nice kids , owner seen on premise working hard, everyone is friendly and they come out from the counter and hand you your ice cream ( nice touch ) in fact if you stand on the side while eating your ice cream you may get handed some more lol ( just kidding) but we did try lol ! The build is nostalgic and very cozy, it is a little clumsy as far as logistics and execution because while your in line you cant see the flavors avaible because the line blocks the names on the glass. While I know the place has a certain feel not common in the larger places, it may be beneficial to at least post a chauk board list of the flavors and services so you accomplish providing information and improving the speed of the selection process. Also visible are the incredible cookies that I think they make the ice cream sandwiches out of as one of the options. If your on weight watchers , this place is worth cheating just walk there, and walk home even if you live in Phila because it worth it ! If you expect tourist type of food, summer " sell you once and done type ice cream" you will be pleasantly surprised of the quality, the feel and the overall experience ! Its worth the hunt, parking is ample and plan to be rewarded with great ice cream . I have not done the coffie and Am servace but plan on doing so , the reviews are too good to pass up !

We decided to give this place a try despite the low reviews. We booked reservations for four on a Thursday (make reservations or wait). ENVIRONMENT: Small quaint, white tablecloth, Italian farmhouse decor. ORDERED: Arugula Pear salads, Seafood Risotto special, Salmon Livornese, Bone in Veal Chop and lots of bread (delicious bread). Tiramisu for dessert. WAIT STAFF: Very professional and knowledgeable. DRINKS: Brought our own red wine and Prosecco. WAIT TIME: Reasonable combined with good service. Okay, note sure about the low ratings (some were no shows that were charged for cancelling). QUALITY: The food was delicious. The veal chop was over the top with a delicious brown sauce. The Salmon was perfectly prepared, and the Seafood risotto was also delicious. PRICE: Somewhat on the high side, but after all you are at the beach, and they love to charge you for that luxury. Good price/value relationship. I will be back in three weeks to dine here again. It is great to have a quality meal experience near OCNJ. That is a rare occasion other than breakfast in a town with many mediocre dining experiences.
