I worked with John at Marquez Law for several months, from August, 2021 to June, 2022. I can…read morehappily say that I was extremely lucky to have them on my side. The entire staff at Marquez Law was responsive and attentive to my needs and John was absolutely great; he usually knew the answer to my question/issue right away or would immediately find out the answer. I never felt like I was being talked down to or wasting his time. Those 10 months were probably the most painful time in my life, but it all worked out, because I had the best legal team for my situation. I would recommend Marquez Law without hesitation.

We retained Jason Marquez based on his strong initial presentation and positive Google reviews. At…read morethe outset, he indicated that achieving a 50/50 parenting schedule and joint decision-making authority was realistic. Unfortunately, after working with him for approximately five to six years, we were deeply disappointed with the level of advocacy, professionalism, and follow-through provided. While Mr. Marquez was capable of drafting emails and filing motions, his courtroom advocacy consistently fell short. During hearings, he failed to adequately challenge inaccurate claims made by the opposing party, did not contest evidence he later acknowledged was flawed or misused, and did not meaningfully advocate when a judge relied on incorrect information to modify our parenting time. Our original custody schedule was every Tuesday and every other weekend--yet under his representation, our Tuesdays were actually taken away. Aside from securing a 50/50 schedule during the summer months, there was little substantive progress toward the goals we were initially told were achievable. Communication and timeliness were also major issues. On one occasion, Mr. Marquez stated an important email would be handled within a couple of days, but no action was taken for nearly two weeks despite multiple follow-ups. A "final" version of that email was not provided until more than a month later, causing unnecessary delays. He later admitted that he should have met with us in person or by phone rather than relying on prolonged email exchanges, stating that the back-and-forth had left him confused about our objectives. By the end, it was clear he no longer understood what we were trying to accomplish. He repeatedly stated that his email inbox functions as his to-do list, meaning clients must send multiple reminder emails just to ensure tasks are addressed. Billing practices further compounded these concerns. We were charged full amounts for work that did not meet promised timelines or outcomes. Commitments outlined in his own contract were not consistently honored, yet billing continued regardless. We were left responsible for costs associated with delays and unmet assurances, including a closing letter that lacked a file he had promised would be included. Additionally, Mr. Marquez represented my mother in her divorce case, and her experience closely mirrored ours--minimal courtroom advocacy, little strategic effort, and substantial fees despite limited progress. Taken together, these experiences raise serious concerns about consistency, accountability, and overall value. We were also troubled by aspects of his professional conduct. He routinely ended calls by referring to us as "kids," which felt dismissive, disrespectful, and indicative of how little he valued his clients. Given the length of representation and the significant financial investment, we expected far more proactive advocacy, transparency, and strategic leadership. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet those expectations. I would not recommend Mr. Marquez to anyone seeking meaningful progress in a custody case. With a caseload of 90+ clients, it became clear that our matter was lost in the shuffle.

You know the reputation about lawyers that's exactly what we got. I think if they are going to…read morepresent a tagline that says "compassionate, innovative and respected" they should meet the customer where they are at with clear expectations financially. I think this is a law firm that will charge you and not care about your situation. I get it it's a business. This was our biggest issue. People on average do not have $3500 for a retainer in 3 days and then another $5000 without being prepared for it. This was in a month. Lawyers are smart they can definitely assemble what it looks like financially for your case. I'll say for this case in particular, (family court) I don't think anything she did was well worth the cost (her cost $350/hr). Also, how they do their billing per their contract is awful. I don't understand why they wouldn't take from the retainer first and then do a follow up like hey we've exhausted your retainer if it's any further it'll cost another $5,000. Instead they just charge the card on file. This is the first and last time we will ever go through a law firm. Finances are a big part of someone's life and for this lawyer in particular she knew what she was doing. Lol she did waive a closing letter which I'm sure costs $10 of her time. I wish there were more lawyers who wanted to do the right thing and really give that compassion, innovation and respect to their people who are seeking legal counsel. It's already tough going to a lawyer, but to have an experience like this was extremely eye opening and I'll never ever forget it. The firm takes advantage of people in desperation. Per their contract expect at least a month or more for them to get you your retainer back. Lastly, if install to them even when u haven't hired them yet they charge you. There's no free consultation. Really really disappointing smh.
