Attracting personnel to render assistance becomes a competition; Unfortunately a challenge that you are never the winner. When you finally separate one of the herd from loitering in the huddle at till; they will shuffle over with an indifferent demeanour, quickly sharing the limit of their product knowledge (this often takes seconds; 'dunno', 'not sure', 'what is it?' seem to be in the 'Runcorn' Currys staff handbook).
I believe, if the staff read equipment manuals instead of babbling by the tills when the shop is quiet, they may give a more professional feel to the shop. This would be preferable to the 'don't care' ambience they ooze as you enter.
The actual process of purchase is always unnecessarily difficult and drawn out. Your card is snatched, where it is swiped in secret through a plethora of machines; I always expect to be card scammed as my card seems to disappear for minutes within the crush of staff procrastinating in 'the cube' avoiding catching a customer's eye.
My experience is based upon many trips to the store, the only reason it survives is a near monopoly in the area rather than good will. read more
