There aren't many "pure" currency exchange locations except for those in airports, and even those are sometimes not operating. This CXI location is always open and always working. I had no idea that there was a $100 minimum when ordering online, since it was my first time exchanging currency. I've used this place before (pre-COVID) when I needed to convert US currency to foreign funds for travel. Was very happy and the process is always easy and fairly convenient (they seem to be the only place outside of a bank to do it in Hampton Roads). However, I recently did an exchange for which I had to order ahead online. They had no coupons for their fees unless you sign up for a "VIP" newsletter and even then it's for your "next exchange". They also automatically slap on extra fees (such as insurance that allows you to exchange whatever currency is left in the next 6 months at 3% higher rate). You have to question it in order to take it off. Also, they were nowhere near the rate quoted me online. It was a big difference by over $30 USD extra I had to pay. The staff told me they use a "retail rate" as oppose to the market rate. I know for a fact that the USD was stronger the day I exchanged than the day I ordered it, so was expecting it to cost less. So either they quote on the global market rate online and then actually charge you a "retail rate" or they just don't honor their quotes. Either way, next time I'm going to a credit union to get more fair market exchanges in the future. read more

I've been using this place for the past years whenever I travel abroad. A super big convenience with less hassle, a piece of mind and less service fees, especially if you are military. They offer 50% off the service fee which brings it down to $5 no matter how much money you are exchanging. I believe if it's over a certain amount like $1k they waive the fee. Don't quote me on that, just ask them they will let you know. They have sooo many different currencies for exchange at the current rate. I suggest calling ahead to check for the availability for the currency you want and requesting the amount you would like and when you would like to pick it up. I usually do this 3 days before I need it or at least a week ahead. On multiple occasions I've always spoke with Tiffany and she's very friendly and helpful. Hold onto your receipt! The best part is if you have currency left over and you need to exchange it back to USD or whatever currency you need you can for free of charge with your receipt. The only thing is they don't take back coins. So spend your coins or keep them. Also sometimes on their website -online they have a 50% off coupon. read more

I travel a lot and decided to try Currency Exchange International's services instead of my Bank (where I normally exchange foreign money). Upon arrival, Emma was super helpful in helping me understand the process, while also instructing me on how to use my Debit Card to pull American Dollars from my checking Account. With Emma's help I was able to use and convert some of the money in my checking Account to Euros for my vacation. This conversion took place about a month ago, and today I went back to exchange some Currency that I had from another recent trip (Thailand and Hong Kong - converted these Bills to American Dollars).
