What a delicious meal we had recently, quite delicious. Saag paneer, vegetable biryani, and a few dishes I can't recall sorry (started this review weeks ago). Everything was delicious but I learnt a valuable lesson in scales of spiciness. I asked for medium heat (3 out of 5) thinking it would be spicy but asily edible. Nope! Was so hot we couldn't eat without adding rice, something sweet, using small amounts added to more veggies, etc. Tasted great! But way, way, way too hot for us. Definitely will go back but I'll ask for mild which hopefully still has a little heat. read more

The truth is I am very particular when it comes to ordering from Indian restaurants. I simply have high expectations that a place needs to meet before I even venture in to give them a try. Curious with the multiple 5 stars awarded to this establishment by other Yelpers, many who are friends or acquaintances, I decided to give them a go one day. Well from that day forward, Cumin has been a destination to quench my craving for delicious, authentic Indian dishes. With multiple takeout orders to gauge their work, I find it fitting to write a review of how great they have been especially this past year of takeout orgies. Whether it's their vegan samosas, assorted pakoras, paneer chili masala, or daal palak, Cumin does not disappoint. The flavor, texture, heat--all balanced to create a very delicious dining experience. Their samosas deserve the most recognition though. Hefty in size, stuffed with delicious filling, and fried to golden perfection I could certainly eat two or three or more (dare I say I have done just that) at one time. I admit that dipping the samosa in their chili masala just takes it to a whole other level. So in short, Cumin has my vote of being a solid Indian restaurant. Picking up dinner from here is always a treat. Packed well so it travels well, whether I have time to pick it up or have to get it delivered. Highlights are the juiciest, most tender tandoori chicken I've ever had and every beautiful curry I've ordered becomes my new favorite (tikka masala, korma, saag paneer, coconut curry - you really can't go wrong). Fluffy, crisp garlic nan is another must order. And the mango kulfi... incredibly rich, creamy, and the perfect ending to a spice-y meal. Kind owners always seem eager to please (asking how the food was, etc), and it's always easy to find a parking spot. I really love this place above every other Indian/Himalayan restaurant in the area for the quality of food mostly, but these are nice things too. read more

Lovely spot in Santa Rosa - we stopped here for a lunch on our way home from NoCal. The interiors are under repair so it was underwhelming but the food was fresh, hot and delicious. We had the spinach naan (rare to see on a menu), coconut chicken and chicken momo. everything was spot on. The chai too. Service is excellent - the server was very sweet and attentive and even brought our food out soon when we told her we are running late. Highly recommend. read more

Chicken tikka masala and butter chicken were almost identical, both were watery. Saag paneer wasn't bad. Samosas were ok. Cheese Naan was delicious. Garlic Naan was dry and hard like it had been reheated from the day before. I've had better Indian within the area. read more

I've never been inside of Cumin Restaurant, but thanks to COVID19, on March 26th I made my first order and since then I've ordered from Cumin x5 more times! Every single time I am more than happy with everything I order and am obsessed with their coconut vegetable dish. There was only one time when I asked for a dish medium that it came out on the extra spicy side. Otherwise, everything has been consistent and absolutely delicious. The food feels nourishing, fills me up with left overs to spare, and leaves me feeling happy and deeply loved. What I've ordered so far: coconut vegetable, chicken tikka masala (uniquely flavored sweet and spiced well), tofu Saag, chicken Saag, gobi manchurian (fantastic spicy and addictive), Samosas (the mild- oh my goodness the best I've ever had the dough is crispy and perfectly baked and there is not a hint of spiciness just pure flavor- good for kids), pakora (YUM!), papadum, garlic naan, and basmati rice. All of the side sauces are good on everything. I have a collection going in my fridge and buy the cilantro chutney as a grocery item for my fridge too! This is my family's favorite go to for Indian cuisine. My wife and I love the mild chicken tikka Marsala for its savory flavor and our boys love the tried and true mild butter chicken. Neither are complete without a couple of orders of the garlic naan. The service is warm and welcoming too which makes it a perfect stop to grab delicious food after a busy work week. This place went from Hero to Zero. We have been very supportive of this business since they opened. We even tried to support them more during COVId-19 crisis. However, we have been so disappointed with their service, food quality and prices vs portion. Our last 3 orders were disappointing. They jacked up the prices ( which I didn't mind), but at least have some decent portion. The chicken tikka was little and chewy. We pay nearly 45% on top of our bill between tip, tax and delivery fees, at least give us a decent meal. Manager was rude about it. They lost my business. Everything was wonderful! The place was very clean, & the young lady was very helpful & sweet as we picked up our order. First time here, & we were not disappointed. Some of the reviews said they didn't get enough sauce, so we ordered extra, two 1/2 pint's of the cilantro chutney, & two 1/2 pint's of the tamarind ginger sauce. We wanted plenty for dipping our bread. They were so yummy! So, the order was that plus Tandoori chicken, absolutely delicious! Peas Pulav, again delicious! It was okay, really just okay. I ordered through door dash, so I understand 3D party vendor issues. It took forever! Our door dasher was stuck there for almost 30 mins waiting for the food, which really cuts into their ability to make money as well. This was the first time we have tried Cumin and probably won't be back. I ordered Lamb Tika Masala, butter chicken, Baigan Bharta and garlic naan. Everything was just missing a little something extra. The tika was good but the texture was really grainy and a bit off. The butter chicken and Baigan Bharta were pretty bland and disappointing. First experiences aren't everything, but one thing Santa Rosa does not lack are great Indian/Himalayan options. Everest or Kafal are much better options in my opinion! read more

As a party of 4 we had: spinach naan - loved it - great sauce too garlic naan - very garlicy and tasty lamb curry - ordered mild - tender and tasty goat kadhi - yep good tandori chicken - grilled perfectly lamb boti kabab - another winner The portions were more than adequate, we all took some home. Our only issue was the service. It too a very long time for the waiter to come to the table. In his defense, it appeared he was the only waiter who was also servicing the front door and the phone. I wanted to order the salmon dish, but thought perhaps with a large group might be a chance it would be dry. Our group visited Cumin for the first time and had lunch. The restaurant features Cuisine from Nepal. Although they have been open only 5 weeks (according to our server) this is an excellent restaurant with delicious meals served quickly and efficiently. Our group ordered lamb curry, chicken curry, and chicken tikka masala. Our server made sure to ask what level of spice for each order (mild, medium or very spicy) which was a nice touch. Each dish was served freshly prepared and warm. There was a side of fried veggies and small cups of fresh tamarin and cilantro sauces. My colleagues and I just finished eating here and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food. We tried the following dishes: vege appetizer plate, the Tamu Alu soup, chicken tikka masala, lamb curry, mushroom kadhai, cheese naan, garlic naan, and basil pesto naan. Everything was well prepared and tasty. I personally loved the soup. It was kind of like an Indian version of a hot and sour though not very hot nor overly sour. At first i thought it was lemon flavored but then realized it was probably tamarind. If I lived closer, I would order it on every visit! A very young restaurant, which sits very close to another of my favorite Indian restaurants. My wife and I went in at at 8:30pm, there were a few people dining. I always go for the chicken tikka masala, I was admittedly a little apprehensive with an earlier review that mentioned the chicken not being tender... let's just say they must have corrected that as my chicken was super tender and very delicious. I heard the waiter at another table discussing the spice level, they have a 1-5 spice (usually it's a mild,medium and hot)... I went with the mild/medium option and it was plenty spicy, a perfect spice. The sauce was perfectly flavored and the naan and basmati rice was cooked to perfection. Ambiance was nice, not a super fancy place, appears to have been a restaurant before, casual dining with some outdoor seating in a little strip mall behind the flamingo hotel. My wife had the Dal soup which was also superb! Lastly, but certainly not least, our waiter.. he could have been an owner, name is Rak he was super attentive and very thorough, we would definitely return. read more

We started off with vegetable pakoras and samosas, both of which came with dipping sauces which were absolutely delicious. Afterward, we ordered chicken tikka masala (one person), and then butter chicken (spice level 3) and lamb tikka masala (spice level 3). Spice level 3 was great. It was enough to make everything have an extra kick but not not so spicy that I was going to embarrass my lunchmates with the spice hell I usually like to put myself through. We also got some chicken momos, which were good but kind of an afterthought to me with how much other food we had on the table. All in all, the service was great, the food was great. I'm giving Cumin 4 stars because I've only been once. This evening I'm so delighted that I have an authentic and delicious Indian restaurant for me to try more often. Nothing out of the can or box. All fresh. I had the goat curry. So many distinct and exotic mix of herbs used for the gravy. The meat was tender and abundant. I also ordered the flakey garlic nan. My dinner mate had lassi and the appetizer plate. The service was quick and extremely kind. 5 stars for the service!! Looking forward to going back several times. Very happy with Cumin. read more

H*ly F***ing Sh*t. This is hands down one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. In North American this is the best Indian/Nepalese I've had outside Houston or Toronto. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The goat Biryani left a lingering burn to accompany subtle the intermingling of meat and spices. The butter chicken was mild with an actually lingering flavor and richness of butter. The tea.. the tea's butter depth was astounding. The partha naan was flakey and delicate. We went back here last night and sat inside. Not sure what's going on, but the service was horrendous and the food wasn't very good. They kept apologizing, and should have left like the other diners. First, they sat the four of us in a very dark area with no lighting. We had to ask three times if they would turn on the lights. Second, they took forever. They were doing their to-go orders first and only did ours last. It took 2.5 hours for our food to be delivered to our table!!!! Third, the food not only took a long time, the meats (tandoori) were over-cooked and DRY. Especially the lamb. Fourth, nothing came out on time. We received the rice (small portion!!!) way before the Chicken tikka masala. The tandoori mixed meat platter came out after this. Long after. The rice was cold by the time the curry was served. The nan came when we were leaving. Bottom line, we spent 2.5 hours, and $120 for very little, overcooked food. This was a total disaster. I can't recommend this restaurant anymore. read more

So good! Perfect, actually! I have been to Nepal and have friends from there. I've eaten lots of Nepali food. This is one of the best restaurants I've tried. I wish I had five stomachs! OUTSTANDING new local restaurant! Wonderful food, great service. I've only eaten here once, but I already consider myself a regular customer. The goat curry is fabulous. Sauces are amazing. Even the rice is superb. How do they do it? It's just rice, but somehow it rises to a new level, and supports the other flavors in a remarkable way. If you like authentic Indian/Nepalese food, you have no better place to go, as far as I know, in the entire San Francisco Bay Area. Santa Rosa might be a bit out of the way for many people - but please trust me - the drive would be well worth it. Even the silverware is reminiscent of "old India." My only suggestion would be to work on the overall ambiance, maybe add some carefully curated Indian and Nepalese music? But this is a minor point. As it is, the decor is simple and uncluttered, which is the way it should be. The food is the main thing, and all I can say is that my wife and I can hardly wait to eat at Cumin again. I just can't say enough about how excited I am to have such an excellent Indian/Nepalese restaurant in Santa Rosa. VERY nice people, too. My review would not be fair if I wrote about our first meal from Cumin. We typically ask for no cilantro when ordering ethnic foods that contain it. WE FORGOT TO ASK FOR NO CILANTRO- so bad on us!!! We must be fair to this restaurant and order again. This time we will ask for no cilantro. The food was tasty but every dish, including the garlic naan was coated in cilantro. Never thought I would have to ask for no cilantro on naan. So- stay tuned for when we order again, and we WILL, and we will give a non-cilantro review. Not counting them out! read more
