I had heard about Cry Baby Hill for some years, but finally went for the first time last year (2015). I quickly understood why it has became one of the best events in Tulsa. It's basically Tulsa's version of Mardi Gras, New Orleans' style. In the otherwise tranquil residential streets just outside downtown Tulsa, hoards of friendly, gregarious people clad in all types of costumes one could imagine descend in a vibrant celebratory circus to cheer on the riders at the culmination of the Tulsa Tough bike race. There's music, beer, food, and revelry that starts in the morning and goes late into the night. The main part of the celebration on the 13th and Jackson isn't a place best suited for children, but there are inflatables on Riverside where the tots can play. The legend of the etymology of CBH goes back around 10 years involving a baby doll and a drunken ditty to taunt riders in the first Tulsa Tough...it evolved from there into one of Tulsa's definitive events. If you haven't been, grab a backpack of beers and water and ice, a few friends, don a silly costume, and head up to the hill, it's sure to be a great time. read more
