I really love their salads and the fact that I can make my own with all the ingredients that I love. However, I find every time I order an order to go .. it is missing ingredients. I ordered one with Ham.. that I actually paid more for and it was missing. I ordered flat bread and it was not in the sack either and it was an additional $1.79. I received my order from Grubhub and so I did not actually pick it up. I believe that the person making the salad should be more careful in examining the order before allowing it to leave the facility. Also, this time, the lettuce was a bit old and not at all crunchy. This restaurant is a great place to eat... I would hope that they will try to improve the small details that make it great! read more

Crushed Red, I've got a crush on you! I went to this place hoping for a quick take out dinner and got so much more! When we walked in, I absolutely loved the decor. Super cute "chandeliers" that are actually lights inside mason jars. So cool! Lots of wood and mason jars in this place. So you start by getting in line. First you order pizza. They have a lot of "crafted pie" choices or you can create your own. I opted for the queen margherita, very good!! Next, you move down the line to order salad. They again have several "crafted salads" or you can create your own. I got the health nut salad and it was outstanding! I wish I could get it everyday!! Only thing is that they were out of edamame, so I was a little sad about that. I think the best part of Crushed Red is their philosophy of what a resturant should be. I happened to pick up the flyer they had at the front that tells their story, and about their food. In their story it says, "they sought out to create the perfect fast-casual resturant in St. Louis that offered quick service, moderate prices, and a menu that was fresh, wholesome and all natural." It's the kind of place you can call in an order and go pick it up in sweats, or you could dine in and spend all night grazing the menu. It's Awesome! I understand in Clayton there are not many quick and good lunch options, so for Crushed Red to open up in the Downtown clayton area, I thought I would give it a shot. After all, they promote fast pizzas, salads and appetizers. Why they don't have sandwhiches is beyond me. I don't know if it was the fact that the people working there were all brand new, but some of the people taking my order knew nothing about parts of the menu. They certainly could not describe the olive tapanade, or whatever it is called. I ended up getting two pizza's and an appetizer with my bf. The appetizer was this diced olives and pita bread. I'll say the pizza's were OK and the appetizer left something to be desired. The pita bread was floppy and not warm, it pretty much crumbled in my hands. The olives were OK, but really weird the way they were presented. I prefer my olives whole, not chopped up. The olives apparently were considered to be a spread, but was not of the consistency to be a spread. Just awful. It gets packed at lunch time, but not terribly so. However, trying to find a seat is a gamble and you should really go with someone so that they can grab a booth and you can order the food. read more

We stopped at Crushed Red for a quick dinner on a Saturday evening. I loved the concept and the food. We were in and out in 30 minutes while still enjoying a healthy meal made with quality ingredients. The "mini" Cobber salad was very filling. That turned out to be a good thing because my husband was still hungry after finishing his pizza. I had ordered the BBQ chicken pizza along with my salad and had plenty to share with him. We both agreed that it was the best of the dishes that we had ordered. It had just the right amount of heat and kick to make it interesting. I would rate 5 stars except we found the seating to be very crowded. The restaurant is fairly small. They make the best use of the space that they can, but it is still a tight fit even when not filled to capacity. We will definitely return, often. read more

I love coming to this restaurant everytime I'm in town! This is a salad+pizza place & have a variety to choose from. They make the salad right in front of you so you know what goes in it; you can also customize it & make your own! It's not a sit down & order restaurant; you order your food before you sit (kind of like fast food) so the food comes out quick! I always order their samurai salad- they use a sesame ginger dressing that's very good! And absolutely love their warm herbed goat cheese; it is to die for, you must try it. Parking is available in the back of the restaurant but if you can't find a stall there's plenty of street parking nearby. read more

Great little local chain. They push the fact that all of their ingredients are organic and better quality food. I made the mistake of going at 11:30-- hoping to beat the lunch rush, but alas the line was already wrapped around the inside of the restuarant. They have flatbreads, salads, and shareables. They also sell wine/beer. I ordered a custom flatbread- Red sauce, Fresh Mozzerella, Pepperoni, bell pepers, oinons, and mushrooms. It was delicious! Crust was the perfect consistency! Not too crunchy and not too deep dish. I also ordered a mini Salad-Kopita. It was the perfect size to go along with my flatbread. They chopped up all the ingredients for you, so every forkful has mutliple layers of the salad. A major plus in my book! The only suggestion I would offer is to go around 12:15-12:30, at that point the crowd seemed to die down a little. Must stop here for lunch if you're in the area. read more

I ordered a salad online and asked for them to add black beans. When I went to pick it up, I did not see black beans so I took it to the counter and told them this. The man took the salad back over the counter m, which as a family member of a restaurant owner, I know they are not supposed to do because that's a health code violation. He then proceeded to open the container, and FINGER THROUGH MY SALAD!!! He used dirty gloves as he ran his fingers through my salad. He then found one black bean and pointed it to me and handed the salad back to me. I spent $10 on that salad and will not be returning. read more

This place is awesome!! They have a large selection of options that can be nutrient packed if you choose wisely. I opted for the mushroom pizza and added spinach and tomatoes; it was a really great flatbread. Not too mention they have ROASTED garlic just sitting out for you to use on whatever you please. Yay salads! This place is fun and my non salad-eating friend actually enjoyed it. It's mostly make your own, although you can choose from one of their signature salads. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the customer service was a bit inconsistent. You interact with a handful of people as you order the salad because it's a bit like an assembly line. Half of them were very friendly, and the other half seemed like they didn't want to be there and didn't know what they were doing. I got the salmon salad, it was delicious. The salads here make me crave lettuce. CRAVE IT. Came here for Clayton Restaurant Week for dinner. $25 for 2 people, you share a starter (two options), you each get a mini salad, and you share a pizza. Based on the options we chose, the full price of the food was right above $25, so not a super great deal, but not shabby either. We didn't order the most expensive options though. We started with the hummus, which my only complaint was that there was not enough hummus for the amount of bread/cracker things you got. But, the hummus was good, not bland like some hummus can be. I got the Welcome Back Cobber (don't remember what my hubby got) and we shared the Big Island pizza. I love the Welcome Back Cobber, it's a great classic Cobb salad, but as with each of their salads, they are chopped fresh in front of you with a big mezzaluna knife. It makes each bite a perfect blend of all the ingredients. The pizza was good, rather unusual including grilled pineapple and prosciutto. I've never had a pizza with pineapple, but this was pretty great. Overall a quality meal, and loved the opportunity to try the Clayton Restaurant Week menu (goes through Jan 27th) which gave us a chance to get something we normally wouldn't (we usually just get the salads here). read more

I used to go here very frequently. The salads were always my favorite, and the fact that they chop and mix everything together always made the salads taste much better. The flatbread pizzas are okay. I have gotten a couple, and while they were never amazing, they were always decent. The pizzas are a good sized portion so you can get the goodness of a pizza without worrying too much about eating unhealthy. I did have one bad experience with the pizza, however. The pizza itself comes on a long metal tray. I am not sure how well or how frequently they wash these metal trays, but one time my friend found a piece of old gum stuck to her tray! It was absolutely disgusting. They were nice about it and gave her a giftcard, but still it was really gross. They are also pretty inefficient with their system of ordering, and it can get pretty confusing. I came here with my family after graduation, and we were waiting in line for over 20 minutes which was so unnecessary since there weren't that many people in front of us. I have seen similar types of salad places operate much more efficiently. read more

I work close to this place and my wife really loves to eat here. They basically have one of two kinds of food: salad or flat bread pizza. The pizza here is decent but it isn't a lot of food for the price. You normally think of pizza as being filling but it isn't that way here. The salads are pretty good (this place is basically like a Chop't) and the soups are very solid if you are into that (I recommend the mushroom bisque.) During the work day this place can be pretty busy but the staff are very friendly and they move the line along pretty quickly. I usually get the salad with steak as my go to meal but my wife has had several different salads and has loved them all. She really loves the Pear on Fire and Health Nut (or something like that.) We like crushed red a lot. It is nice to get exactly the ingredients that you want on your salad, and we have developed quite a taste for having our salads chopped. We usually only get a cheese pizza to share and have not explored the pizza category much. The soups look good, and the beverage selection is better than one would expect. The only drawback is the seating. You order first, get your salad and drinks, and then find seating. If it is busy, this can be bothersome. An elegant four-star self-serve bistro serving pizza, salad and soup. Greeted with a Subway style ordering process the learning curve was a bit off putting. However the line, chefs, and service were fast and we had all of our food and drinks by the time we picked a table. The food is very well prepared with fresh ingredients. I love a good chopped salad. I am enjoying the "do it your way" tendency that is underfoot. You tell the salad preparer what to include in your salad, it is up to you to make a logical and tasty combo. This is not a gourmet experience. This is a hits the spot reasonably priced fast option for a great salad in an environment that is not too loud. Having recently moved back to St Louis, I was looking forward to a mainstay healthy and delicious lunch so my friend and I chose Crushed Red in Clayton. So disappointing. My Chipotle BBQ chicken salad was SWIMMING in ranch dressing which completely diluted the healthfulness of my once favorite salad. And the Gorgonzola Pizza crust was soft, also not too appetizing. What's happened people? Consistency is key when it comes to restaurant success. Please tell your salad dressing applicators to stay with the guide rather than make as THEY may prefer it! This may not be the worlds best salad, but I have a soft spot for this place. It's right by my school, so it's super convenient for me. They also make your food really fast - if you order a salad it takes barely a few minutes to get your food. Pizzas are a bit longer but also quite fast (def less than 10 min). I've probably eaten here well over 50 times already, but I always get the same thing: chipotle bbq chicken salad with avocado! If you're looking for fast and healthy food that tastes pretty good, crushed red is the bomb. If you don't really care about healthy eating, then this place probably isn't for you. I've taken my friends here a few times and they don't particularly like it. They don't eat salads much and pizzas here are quite small (for ~$10 per pizza), so they just done see the value in it. But if you like salad, just order the chipotle bbq chicken salad and you have nothing to worry about! It's delicious! And the staff here are really great. Crushed red? That's a hell of a good name, because crushed dreams would be a lie. Went in for a salad, and I'll be damned if I didn't get the best salmon salad I've ever had. Fresh, wild caught salmon. Straight from the bears mouth to your plate. Topped it off with an in house rice krispy, that paired phenomenally with the Stella draft I had hand poured by Karen, or maybe her name was Reema...either way, I will be coming back and I'd be bringing my grandmother too if she was still with us. Love this place and go a couple of times a week. Only issue I have with CR is you get less if you tell them it's take away. I've asked them to make in bowl first and put in take away container and the guy put less lettuce in the bowl. Very small issue but when you're paying $10 for a salad, it is annoying. This a neat concept for a restaurant. It's interesting to watch the staff make your salad in front of you. I ordered the Health nut salad and substituted the raspberry vinaigrette with the Tomato vinaigrette because I'm not a big fan of raspberry vinaigrette.The salad was just ok. I also ordered a gluten-free veggie pizza. When the first pizza arrived it was not gluten-free so the manager offered to remake my pizza. When the second pizza arrived it was burned black around the edges and the toppings were slightly under done. I'm not one for constantly sending things back because I've heard too many horror stories about food being tampered with so I went ahead and ate it anyway. The combination of flavors probably would have been okay if it weren't for the overly crunchy burned crust flavor. Overall, if I had a choice in the future whether to go here or somewhere else I most likely will go somewhere else. read more

Cool concept with great salads and pizzas, I was really impressed by Crushed Red. Their bread used in the pizza is excellent, just airy enough to be so good (Panera's former bakery lead is on board). Their salads are also pretty solid with good vegetables. The hummus is fairly decent but nothing exceptional, its served with the same tasty bread as the pizza and crackers. The food comes out fast and the service while ordering or paying is great. It's obvious the restaurant is well thought out and the whole process of ordering is effortless, you even watch them make your food while you wait to pay. Prices are quite reasonable, it's easy to get a meal under $10. read more

The salads here are great and the concept, analogous to Stir Crazy, lends itself to fast and healthy meals--you place your order and then stand in line and watch them prepare it. The salad chopping is interesting, they use a two-handed curved double-blade that I had not seen before. The pizzas are OK but the salad was better (there are small individual ovens that they prepare your pizza in but you don't have to wait for the pizza to bake they will bring it to your table later). I liked the atmosphere and how the space has been redesigned (it used to be an art supply store) but the walk-up ordering concept combined with some table service and open seating generate some confusion. read more

And tonight I had ahi tuna on my salad (Tunapalooza). I would rate the salads a 4 for sure. The pizzas and "shareable" apps are disappointing to me, but my daughter is pretty happy with the pizza, which is key. So I give the pizzas a 2. (Hardly any cheese on the cheese pizza) Overall, I would give them a 3.5 if I could because I like their staff and ambiance too. Great thing about this concept: chopping up your salad into bits & mixing well so ingredients marry & you taste them together in every bite. My salad was terrific. I had the large, which was just the right size for a meal. Didn't try anything else, tho, I don't know if I will since the salad menu has so many yummy sounding offerings. Not crazy about some of the set up - ordering process is a bit off. The restaurant doesn't have any glasses at their self serve soda station, so you have to interrupt cashier for one if you decide to come back for water (perhaps a carafe of water at table?) The ambience has a franchise vibe with very little personality. This would be high on my list for CARRY OUT. I'm not cheap when dining out, but, I think the prices are a tad high for what they are serving. All that said........the salad was very good, the salad ingredients were very tasty, the salad menu was big with uncommon combinations. For that......I will be back. read more

If you want a tasty and fresh salad this is a great place to come to. I had a not so great experience here simply because of the service. I was a little confused by how the line worked and I wasn't given any direction from the staff. The hostesses were friendly but the guy who was putting together my salad was unfriendly and disinterested. I guess I like to have a friendly interaction when I go to a restaurant even a fast food one. The salad comes chopped up which I didn't know. I also was able to get spinach and not just the standard romaine. The salad was definitely fresh and really tasty. I didn't try the pizza but I'm sure it could be good. I'm still not sure how the restaurant works but it appears you order and then maybe they bring it out to you? It looked like a full service restaurant and I was looking for takeout so I didn't really pay attention. It was dark like a cozy pizza place inside. SO I am going to update my avatar with the pic of me from the time I was eating an appetizer called 'bacon in a cup' so keep in mind that I would not choose to go to Crushed Red if it were up to me. But my stepdaughter the Pediatrician lives in StL and since we were visiting her, it was all about the 'healthy choices'. We call her the 'food police'. She loves Crushed Red, so we went to Clayton. The three of us ordered a flatbread pizza with fresh mozz, sweet sausage and portabellas, and each of us had a different salad. Highest marks for freshness and taste; I've had good salads and pizzas at other places but I must say this stood out. I don't know if it is due to the nature of the dressings, the freshness of the ingredients or the preparation methods (chopping) but every ingredient could be individually tasted. Unfortunately, that meant I could really taste the cucumbers on my Emerald Coast salad, and I haate cucumbers, but of course one could simply ask the staff to 'hold the cucumbers' which is not a problem whatsoever here. My wife had a Welcome Back Cobber salad that was awesome. The flatbread pizza was not overpowering, kind of subtle. It suffers in comparison to, say the ones from Pi, but for a work lunch they are ideal. I am a fan of Crushed Red, and next time I am in the Lou, I will return. I love the chopped salads here! And the flatbreads and other fare are outstanding. The entire concept is terrific and I wish that they would carry the concept to Tampa, where I spend most of my time. So why the two stars only? Simply this: The check out process is such that the cashier spins the display around after swiping your card. You are presented with tip options while the cashier looks on. This is pressure that I don't care to endure. Especially since there is no server involved. Why would I tip if there is no server?? I can only conclude that management chooses to compel their customers to supplement what must be low wages. I am hopeful that Crushed Red will terminate this process so that I can return as an avid and enthusiastic patron. But until then, alternate choices abound. read more

This Pear is on Fire is my favorite for flavor but the last two times I ordered it, it was way spicier than previous times, almost to the point I couldn't eat it.
