Having lived in Crows Nest for nearly six months I'd sussed out that it was a pretty community oriented place to live. There are always dozens of mum's with prams hovering around the community centre and lots of independent shops where the owners know the customers by name. Spring has arrived, the deciduous trees have grown their leaves back, the sun is shining and the festival season begins!
I'd seen the posters for Crows nest Festival for weeks but didn't think much of it - a few stalls selling nik knacks, maybe some street buskers. Pleasantly surprised I was this Sunday. The stalls were in the hundreds, there were two stages - one playing young local indie acts the other playing jazz. There was a stall with electric drum kits you could have a go at (big tikes and little tikes welcome), wines and bubbly tasting stalls, original hand made clothing, wooden statues, jewellery, pudding, jams, maritime and astronomy pieces, gelato, a mulit-media stall... a lot of neat stuff. Willoughby road was packed with people from all walks of life checking out the festival - it really felt like a fun place to be.
I'll head back next year with the intention to do a bit of chrissy shopping and lunch. read more
