First of all, location: You couldn't be more central than that. Spinella is right in the middle of Via Etnea, the main street, facing Villa Bellini which is the most famous park/garden in Catania. They have tables outside and it's the perfect spot to sit, relax and do some people-watching. The food is excellent too. This place is famous for serving the best Arancini and Cannoli and I have to agree. I literally go there any time I am in Catania. They serve a lot of different pastries and savoury specialities (such arancini, cartocciate, cipollina). Prices are REALLY good as well, you can have lunch there for less than 10€, and staff is friendly and quick. Love this place. Been a customer for years and will keep going back. Bonus: There's also free WiFi which can be handy :)

It was a very beautiful day when we visited Spinelli and we chose the outdoor seating. Large trees and umbrellas gave us a lot of shade and made it comfortable even in 80F weather. The service was extremely nice and fast :) We chose Aperitivo for 4. For only 10 Euro each of us received a glass of Aperol Spritz, and a very! large charcuterie board to share.

Bustling market with so many unusual fish and all sorts of displays. Shark, Swordfish, octopus, sea urchin, clams, shrimp, and too many fish to name. Kids enjoyed the displays but could hardly handle the smelly fishiness-honestly I think the Asian market in Vegas smells fishier-at least this was an open air market. If you buy the fish here, you are the butcher-so we came here just for pure enjoyment. We did buy some fresh parsley since we would be cooking some seafood (but we bought our fish elsewhere). Lots of fruit and veggie stands too. Open daily until 4 p.m. behind the Piazza Duomo.

Inside they have lots of options for granita, gelato, tavola calda, dolce etc. However the staff is so rude!!! My Sicilian friends love this place so maybe it is because I am not Sicilian but they would not help me inside. Told me to sit at a table on the patio. Then made me wait 11 minutes outside while helping other people that arrived after me. Eventually I placed my order then waited another 10 minutes to get my food. It was partially melted and the server was not friendly. But the flavors were good. I would not go back. And I would recommend going to Zio Pietro nearby for granita and gelato.

My small gelato (cookies and stracciatella) was a nice way to beat the 90-degree heat in Catania. Price was fair. My only regret is not buying any of their fancy chocolates! I'd absolutely return on future visits to the city.
