It's a little hard to find but it's near Bank of America! On the side. They ran out of basically everything I wanted to order. They didn't have cones anymore, puff pastries, croissants, French fries except the sweet potato. The only thing I can get is ice cream... hopefully I'll come back and they will restock. Their sweet potato fries taste good! For the price, it's worth. Stars for the customer service though! I really want to try their parmesan garlic fries & tuna melt! read more

Been meaning to try this place for the bolo bao ice cream, but the first time I dropped by, they were temporarily closed. I happened to be in the plaza the other day, and even though I wasn't hungry, I really wanted to try this place. The shop is a little difficult to find since it isn't facing the street, but it's on the bank side of the plaza, not the kbbq side. Service was decent. The only guy there acknowledged us when we walked in, but it was kind of strange that he escaped to the back room while we were deciding. He came back out, and offered samples when I asked for it. Price is average for an ice cream shop. I got the cookie butter ice cream in a pandan waffle cone to share. The ice cream was delicious, but the waffle didn't really have the pandan scent. It was thin and crisp, so it had a nice texture, but there was no structural integrity. That waffle cone broke apart so easily. I'm still down to come back to try the bao version though. read more

Oh... uh.... where... THE HECK IS THIS STORE? Answer is, on the right side near a.. Farmers Insurance office. I think. Forgot which insurance it is. lol. This one and only ice creamery gives it a multi-unit franchise feel with its clean, simple, and cute interior design. Ice cream flavors are limited but each provokes a good childhood memory, be sure to try the Ube if you spent some time in China around the 80s-90s. Their milk tea is decent, good flavors and not overly sweet. A good neighborhood 9pm stop after a good dinner. read more

So this is not an easy place to find, but when you do you will be pleasantly surprised. They have some of the most unique flavors of ice cream from taro, to vanilla salted pretzel! They have different colorful flavored handmade waffle cones like pandan and mango! As well as their unique ice cream sandwiches made with the traditional Asian Bao bun! New ice cream spot. Little hard to find. They are in a plaza with a bowling alley but on the very opposite end and side of the plaza. Not sure if they make their own ice cream. Probably as the flavors there aren't the standard ones you find at a store. Such as black sesame and Nutella cookies and cream. Something different they do here is they can place your ice cream in Chinese sweet buns. Tried it. It's different but probably won't order it all the time. Also they have different flavors of ice cream cones such as pandan and mango. They were out of mango cones when we were there. They make he cones fresh when you order. The pandan cone was crispy and good with just a hint of pandan. read more

i've been looking for a small ice cream shop near by and this one is less than a mile away from me i've been there a few times and it's a good ice cream small selection but great price i like to go sit with my daughter and spilt a few scoops up off the only thing that i didn't like that stops me from going back from 2 out of the 4 times i've been there where 2-3 men sitting in the outside table area just "hanging out" not sure if there owners or something it just made me uncomfortable especially since one of them always has his feet up in the table with no socks or shoes just his bare feet not a good view for the atmosphere of trying to attract customers it makes me not want to go back and drive 10-15 minutes to baskin robins instead i will give it one more chance read more

Crispy & Fluffed is this tiny ice cream shop (very hidden) on Lower Azusa/Action Lane plaza.. it's all the way to the side. Their ice cream selections aren't vast.. but their selections are different than your typical ice cream shop. You're able to sample too if you're unsure. I ended up with the Ube which tasted like Taro to me.. but I liked it nonetheless.. and the matcha they had wasn't strong enough for me.. I had it with the bolo bao (pineapple bun) which is a different twist to ice cream sandwiches. The bun is actually warmed up so you should eat it ASAP or the ice cream would melt. I really liked the combination and thought that it was different. Their buns are pretty good and I'd def come just for the bun. Would recommend! read more

This place is hidden so if you're not looking carefully then you will definitely miss it. There are always parking there and it's never packed. The inside is small but nicely decorated and clean. The waffles are made by them but not the ice cream. The restroom is always clean which is a plus. However, customer service needs improvement. Customer service is everything to me. I've been there a couple of times and my experiences are the same in regards to customer service. The owner is okay but it doesn't seem like he cares about his customers. I tried to joke with him to see if he would crack a smile or even a half a second laugh but no luck. What a tough cookie! After he gave us our ice cream, he went straight to the back. It was just awkward that he didn't come back out until we rang the bell. He never once asked if everything was okay or if we needed anything. I believe if he actually made an effort to connect with his customers then he would have more customers. read more

Ran across this place while searching for desserts in the sgv. Ordered the bolo bao with black sesame and coffee cookie ice cream. Bolo bao was definitely fresh and you could definitely taste the pineapple bun even with the ice cream. Ice cream was delicious and they had great flavors to choose from. Bolo bao and ice cream is much better than donut and ice cream. The ice cream does melt a bit quick but it was so delicious we finished ours before it was too runny. The place is pretty hidden but worth it. I cant wait to try their churro donut and their pandan waffle cone. read more

For its price, I'd say this place is a real hidden gem. I went with my friends one day, unsure if it was open or not because it's kind of empty. The store itself is very cosy and aesthetically pleasing. It's very quiet but has games (i.e.- jenga, battleship) you can play with others if you're waiting for your order or when you're with friends. When we entered, an employee came out to greet us and took our orders. I highly recommend the bolo bao (pineapple bun) with ice cream. The prices are very reasonable and the service is decent. When I went, my order took awhile as there was only one staff working that I noticed, and I don't blame them for it. Serving 10 customers by yourself is hard, alright. While I was there, my friend complained (kind of loudly ) about how watered down his boba was and how he didn't like it and the poor staff member heard. When the same friend went to order a green tea, the staff member told him it was on the house as he felt bad for the dissatisfaction of the customer. Overall, my experience at Crispy and Fluffed was a great one and I'd definitely come back again. read more

This is the best place to get ice cream locally in El monte area. The quality is on par with after's ice cream and yet the price is cheaper. It's the perfect alternative however just not as many flavors but the quality makes up for that completely. Their chicken tenders are also superb and their snacks are just excellent overall quality. It's a one man shop and I gotta say it is perfect and extremely well done. I came in almost 20 minutes late just as the owner was closing and he was nice enough to let me come in and still get ice cream. The owner is extremely nice and the ice cream and snacks speak for themselves. I can't wait to try more of their drinks which by my surprise Horchata Milk Tea is an option and it is amazing the first time I tried it. Super underrated place. Must try. read more

I came across Crispy & Fluffed through IG and decided to drive 8 miles from my house to check it out. It did not disappoint! I usually have the bolo bao with ice cream and my kids have the same or just ice cream scoops. The prices are good. I had never been to Afters and once I did I can definitely say I prefer Crispy & Fluffed. The bolo bao is fresh and non-greasy compared to Afters milky bun. My kids and I visited Crispy & Fluffed almost every weekend :) read more

Really cute and hidden ice cream shop located on lower Azusa next to the bowling alley (you have to walk all the way around the corner to the back) I really like the flavors they have here which include ube, black sesame, red velvet, and horchata. Since I was getting the ice cream with a bolo bao(bread bun) I opted to get the horchata flavor which went really well together with the bun. I like coming here because their ice creams are not overly sweet and you can play battleship or connect 4 while enjoying your dessert! read more

Bolo bao (pineapple bread) with ice cream is such an interesting concept! I love both but never thought they'd be good paired together. The owner, Alec, is very nice and kindly greeted me upon entering the store. I'm a sugar fanatic and this place is feeding my addiction, but I'm not complaining! I absolutely love the ube flavored ice cream with the bolo bao. The combination of the cold dessert with the warm bread melts in your mouth. This place will not disappoint, will definitely come back for seconds. Props to you Alec for coming up with such a unique idea and providing really great customer service! P.S. If you're a fan of afters ice cream, I would recommend giving this a try. Prices are much more reasonable. read more

If youre looking for a place that serves boba and great finger foods look no further. Been going to this place on a daily basis. The shop is very clean and tidy. The food is very consistent on being delicious, fresh, and of course eye candy appealing. With the shop owner giving a nice atmosphere, I'd drop by and pick me up some ice cream ( recommend the nutella flavor ) in middle of the night or even mid day. Truly a gem in the little city of el monte. Yes they are open during covid, But hours may vary. read more

yelp review caught my sweet tooth attention. Unfortunately, the review was overinflated. Ordered regular bun with butter, and a bun with green tea ice cream flavor topped with condense milk. Regular pineapple bun, or the butter, tastes a bit sour and we thought the bun might not be fresh. Service definitely needs improvement. It's our first time, but Cashier doesn't seem to care and offer guidance. I suppose the cashier is not the owner. Hopefully, next visit will improve the overall experience. read more

OMG you guys need to try this place! They have bolo bao ice cream sandwhiches and the ice cream is super yummy! I always get the ube flavor which is similar to taro in a way. It's too bad that this place is a bit hard to find, so they don't get a lot of service. I'm sure this place will be a hot spot over time. I ALWAYS love coming here to meet friends- a nice quiet cafe that's a hidden gem in the plaza in El Monte. My favorite to go item will always be the fries, ice cream and lychee teas! Cute, little ice cream shop in El Monte. The store is hidden on the side of BoA and next to the nail shop. There's plenty of parking here. They have very unique flavors of ice cream and cones. My favorite is the ube. It's super good!! The owner is also the cashier and he is super nice. He's very welcoming and offers you samples of the flavors! Location/ Space: This is my perfect work/study spot for the summer. It is hidden away from the rest of the plaza in a quiet alcove- there isn't much foot traffic so less distractions! Also, they just opened so the place is still reasonably private. The space feels a bit intimate- it's a perfect place to study or chill with a friend or two. If more privacy is desired, the outdoor and raised bar-style seating against the window is great. The setting is fresh and bright, so it's a nice spot to relax and enjoy for longer periods of time. Food: I have never been a fan of the classic pepperoni and tomato sauce pizza- it's too acetic for my taste. BUT amazingly, the Pepperoni pizza croissant at Crispy & Fluffed will be my 'everyday' choice from their menu. The light and buttery croissant balances the intensely rich pepperoni pizza filling. My world has changed! If you want to try something special, you MUST have the **Bacon Cream Cheese puff pastry**. That thing is magic in your mouth!! My only regret is that I can't have this everyday- it's definitely a 'treat' item! The Bolo Bao (Pineapple bun)... I can't say enough about it. I'm surprised that it's so hard to find "the perfect" Bolo Bao in the 626 area, so I'm happy to say that they've gotten it right. To top it off, they give you the choice to have it with ice-cream. It's a nice traditional and cultural twist to the whole 'donut & ice-cream sandwich' hype. You can even have the pineapple bun Hong Kong style (Bolo Yau)! Warm and soft with a thick piece of butter in the center.. (Also, $2.50 for a Milk/Fruit tea is a steal!!) read more

Found this place on Yelp on the hot and new tag. I was so excited when I saw that they had an option to put the ice cream in a bolo bao. It looked super interesting and yummy. The bolo bao came out hot and crispy, which was a good contrast to the ice cream. I got the coffee and cookies ice cream, which was really yummy. I tried the cookie butter ice cream as a sample and will def be back to get a scoop of it. Will also be back to try their flavored cones! read more

Like yeah it's been sitting there and I didn't want to go into the employee area to get it! That was really irritating. The ube flavor was bland. It tasted like milk, I did not get any ube flavor. The custard in the taiyaki was just okay. The worst part was that the taiyaki had a really off putting taste on the outside... almost like the aftertaste of margarine or something, it bothered me. Overall the flavor and service was lacking and the experience inside was not good. I was not impressed by any aspect and would not recommend this place unless you were already dining in this plaza and wanted to just walk over.

In a very bright, Japanese themed cafe kind of way. But because this is an Initial D themed drink and snack spot, I can see this being a place where mostly guys use this place as a meet-up hub. Especially for a small car meet. Very niche right? Especially for the dying breed of 1980's 1990's - 2000's JDM cars. That said, how many guys in the city could you actually get to come here regularly for soy and soy-based accessories, drinks, and snacks? The dessert was okay, and I wasn't in love with the drinks. Light, tofu refreshing, but not captivating. Personally, the menu doesn't appeal to me, since I try to avoid soy since it tends to be a pro-estrogen consumable. I don't think they had to box themselves in into being a purely tofu-only cafe. They could sell tofu products, and also have something simple but repeatedly addictive; like In-n-Out, Wurstkuche, Howling Ray's, Tea Master Matcha Cafe, Savoy, Langer's, etc. The closest idea I can think of that would be forced into tofu would be like really excellent, authentic mabo tofu, agedashi tofu, or like a karaage or Tokyo fried chicken style fried chicken with a mabo tofu dipping sauce, heavy on the ma-la flavors. Hell, I might even stop by more if they imported more car parts, from like Impulse, TRD, or Apex'i. But the way the AE86 market is, it makes more sense to sell online to the global niche. Wonderful atmosphere and mood for the Initial D/MF Ghost/Subaru to Subaru fandom. It was fun just to follow on instagram and catch a glimpse of all the influencer personalities in the car community stopping by. I'll look forward to what their next Project T(ofu) looks like. They've been importing, growing, and supplying tea for over 80 years. There was a time when my ex was considering opening a Thai restaurant, and we'd go to LAX-C outside of downtown LA to make sure we could get Cha TraMue tea leaves in bulk. I actually like their rose drinks quite a bit too. And their choice of plastic cups are at least more structurally hardy - unlike places like 85'C that have cheaped out into using the softer, malleable plastic cups that have a higher tendency to leach microplastics under heat. I will say, I wouldn't deviate from the sweetness level for Thai tea too much. This location is a bit inconsistent so it'll taste off if you try to go to 70% or 50%. I usually avoid boba, but I make it an exception to get their pandan boba. Although again... sometimes their at this location is inconsistent, and it'll be missing that pleasant, aromatic pandan essence. Plus the they've also been too chicken shit to call out my name. You know, you enter your name: "Fat Boy." But when my order was ready, they'd only say "Boy!" Now I don't feel so guilty tipping only 15% instead of 20%.
