Tucked away in the corner of a plaza. Cute little shop. Just a few flavors of ice cream. You choose from a cone, a bun, or a cup. There are drink and snack menus, too. Quick service There are a few tables inside and out.

Such a hidden gem! Everytime I come here, I love sampling their seasonal flavors. This time I'm a huge fan of their black sesame flavor. And I almost always get it in their warm Bolo Bun! The mix of toasted bolo bao with the cool ice cream is the perfect combo. They have plenty of parking and the service is always top notch. For anyone with late night ice cream cravings or those looking to try something new, don't skip out on this spot in El Monte.

This is a nice, small little shop tucked in the back of this plaza. Service was great - you can try samples of their ice cream and the worker was so nice and offered samples of their cookies as well. I got the jasmine milk tea and coffee & cookie ice cream in the bolo bun, as recommended by my friend who got ube and jasmine milk tea as well. The bread was flaky and sweet and the ice cream was generously packed. The whole thing was a pretty big portion in my opinion.

Small shop in the corner of a quiet plaza. I came here several times and got the bolo bao(pineapple bun) ice cream. Made fresh every time and tastes amazing. It does take a bit of time to get served, though, since there is only one person working. Who knew you just needed to add a bolo bao to make me eat a whole scoop of ice cream in minutes? I will definitely be back whenever I'm near the area!

I scream, you scream, we all scream Bolo bao + ice cream! Came here for an after dinner dessert and Alec, the owner, was closing up. He kindly let us still order! He was patient with our small group and took our bolo bao ice cream orders. Bolo bao is a pineapple sweet bread. Service was great even for one man as Alec was quick in busting out these amazing creations. The bolo bao was fluffy, toasted, and sweet. The contrast to the creamy taro ice cream is so good! I wanted to try all his flavors because he has the Asian flavored ice cream that isn't typically found in LA. In addition, it's sandwiched between a bolo bao! The decor of the inside is quaint and cute, but not large enough to hang out in large groups. So best to take your order and walk around the plaza if your group is more than six people. The spot is located towards the back of Midway Plaza. On the west side of Action Lanes. It can be hard to miss. Bon appetit yelpers and I hope you give this local creation a try!

Ask the Community - Crispy & Fluffed Ice Cream

Are you supposed to ask for the ice cream bolo buns to be cut in half?

Hello! Yes you can ask for it to be cut in half if you are sharing. We would be happy to cut it if it makes your experience more fun, but it does melt faster and it’s a lot messier to eat is why we serve it as a whole now. Have a wonderful day! :)

Does this place offer milk alternatives for the tea? (Almond, coconut, soy, etc)

Out of curiosity, are you hiring by any chance?

Sorry, but we are not hiring at the moment. Thank you.

Why is this place temporarily closed till June 30? You guys just opened! Disappointed.

Hello Living L, I apologize for the late response and I deeply apologize for being closed. We ran through a rough patch with the Los Angeles county. Our plans were approved but for some odd reason they needed a resubmission which forced us to close.… Read more

Second Visit & Still Such a Fun Dessert Spot!…read more This was our second visit here, and once again the service and ambience were very welcoming. It's a smaller dessert spot with about 3-4 tables available, but it gives off a cozy and chill vibe that we really enjoyed. This time we got the half-and-half milk and ube ice cream with taiyakis filled with: * taro * red bean * custard * cheesecake * nutella And honestly... I was really surprised that the cheesecake filling was actually delicious! Creamy, smooth, and definitely something I'd order again. The taiyaki itself was warm with that nice slight crisp on the outside, and paired perfectly with the ice cream. Overall, such a fun spot for dessert and definitely a must-try if you're craving taiyakis and ice cream. Happy eats!

This is in the same tiny plaza as Golden Deli and Bopomofo, so parking can be tough at peak dinner time. The good: the taiyaki texture was nice and crunchy. The ice cream was smooth and not icy. The price is good for amount you get. The bad: the store was extremely cramped and hot. It's a very tiny shop so easily felt packed inside. I was annoyed when they called my order but I was struggling to get through the shop to get my order. By that time the employee had walked away. I was annoyed because when she came back she completely ignored me and handed someone else their order and walked away. I don't understand why they keep the completed orders way behind the counter if they don't even verify the correct person is picking up... after being skipped over twice I finally cut in and interrupted the other employee for my order and she was like oh... sorry it's melted. Like yeah it's been sitting there and I didn't want to go into the employee area to get it! That was really irritating. The ube flavor was bland. It tasted like milk, I did not get any ube flavor. The custard in the taiyaki was just okay. The worst part was that the taiyaki had a really off putting taste on the outside... almost like the aftertaste of margarine or something, it bothered me. Overall the flavor and service was lacking and the experience inside was not good. I was not impressed by any aspect and would not recommend this place unless you were already dining in this plaza and wanted to just walk over.

The location itself is super small and at times cramped depending on how crowded the events were. I did enjoy the tofu pudding here, but I do admit that their drinks could have been better. Did I ever go out of my way to get the drinks here? No. But did I come out here because they helped and played such a vital role in building a community? Hell yes. Thank you so much for the memories

I was hoping to have my own AE86 built and ready when I finally stopped by, but maybe for the new location. As an honest critique of the actual storefront, the appearance and decor is very charming. In a very bright, Japanese themed cafe kind of way. But because this is an Initial D themed drink and snack spot, I can see this being a place where mostly guys use this place as a meet-up hub. Especially for a small car meet. Very niche right? Especially for the dying breed of 1980's 1990's - 2000's JDM cars. That said, how many guys in the city could you actually get to come here regularly for soy and soy-based accessories, drinks, and snacks? The dessert was okay, and I wasn't in love with the drinks. Light, tofu refreshing, but not captivating. Personally, the menu doesn't appeal to me, since I try to avoid soy since it tends to be a pro-estrogen consumable. I don't think they had to box themselves in into being a purely tofu-only cafe. They could sell tofu products, and also have something simple but repeatedly addictive; like In-n-Out, Wurstkuche, Howling Ray's, Tea Master Matcha Cafe, Savoy, Langer's, etc. The closest idea I can think of that would be forced into tofu would be like really excellent, authentic mabo tofu, agedashi tofu, or like a karaage or Tokyo fried chicken style fried chicken with a mabo tofu dipping sauce, heavy on the ma-la flavors. Hell, I might even stop by more if they imported more car parts, from like Impulse, TRD, or Apex'i. But the way the AE86 market is, it makes more sense to sell online to the global niche. Wonderful atmosphere and mood for the Initial D/MF Ghost/Subaru to Subaru fandom. It was fun just to follow on instagram and catch a glimpse of all the influencer personalities in the car community stopping by. I'll look forward to what their next Project T(ofu) looks like. See you next time, Space (cow) boy. Oh-oh-oh. I need you babe.

Heads up though that their last day is April 16th and they're going to be moving to Alhambra but it won't open for a month or two as they still need to move in and set up. I've tried their premium coconut shake and that's soooo yummy and you can't go wrong with the most simple one! It's not too sweet either which is really great. I've also tried the mango coconut shake and that threw me off at first bc it only tasted like a mango shake bc that was concentrated all the way at the bottom. I didn't taste the coconut until later and then it got good. I've also tried their kaya toast with butter and that's pretty tasty as well. I got my mom the coconut calamansi and she loved it. It's usually pretty quiet and empty when I come during the day but on a Friday night, I did see more people hanging out there. I do love that there is seating for people to hang out. Staff are pretty quiet and keep to themselves as they have two digital order stations. So if you have questions, you have to kind of call them to the front and ask. Sad they'll be on a little hiatus as they transition from San Gabriel to Alhambra but 10/10 recommend this place especially as an alternative to boba haha

They've been importing, growing, and supplying tea for over 80 years. There was a time when my ex was considering opening a Thai restaurant, and we'd go to LAX-C outside of downtown LA to make sure we could get Cha TraMue tea leaves in bulk. I actually like their rose drinks quite a bit too. And their choice of plastic cups are at least more structurally hardy - unlike places like 85'C that have cheaped out into using the softer, malleable plastic cups that have a higher tendency to leach microplastics under heat. I will say, I wouldn't deviate from the sweetness level for Thai tea too much. This location is a bit inconsistent so it'll taste off if you try to go to 70% or 50%. I usually avoid boba, but I make it an exception to get their pandan boba. Although again... sometimes their at this location is inconsistent, and it'll be missing that pleasant, aromatic pandan essence. Plus the they've also been too chicken shit to call out my name. You know, you enter your name: "Fat Boy." But when my order was ready, they'd only say "Boy!" Now I don't feel so guilty tipping only 15% instead of 20%.
