Definitely check out his artwork in the gallery space in the entry area. I have been taking a weekly Adults & Teens class at Squak Art Studio for almost 3 months now and I highly recommend it. At 29, I had never done any kind of visual art and have always been convinced I was "bad at art." However, Jason's tremendous one-on-one attention and perfect balance of encouragement and constructive criticism put me right at ease. I'm so proud of the pieces that I've created in colored pencil, watercolor, and oil pastel. I look forward to painting my first acrylic once I finish my next project. Come join us for an art class! I have taken two classes so far (drawing + oil painting) and I really love the small class sizes, the high quality of the chosen instructors and materials for the class. You can choose classes accordingly to your skill level, learn a TON and have lots of fun there. In my opinion, the classes are reasonably priced (but they could do a better job to include materials or tell people beforehand what amount to expect to buy all the things that are needed), well structured and you can get a real boost of creativity from it! The location is not too far from downtown, easily accessible by public transit or by car (they have a big parking lot, free to use!) and the atmosphere to work there is really great. I think the times of some of the classes could be better for people with full time jobs as not everybody can take a half day off to attend classes starting at 2pm.

They are patient with fundamentals but never kill the joy of creating. They know when to push for cleaner work, when to let a student experiment, and how to give critique that makes kids want to improve. Over the years they tailored projects to my daughter's interests, introduced new techniques at just the right time, and celebrated progress in a way that built real confidence. As the party date got closer, we were slightly worried because it really could have gone either way. There was only one other review here on Yelp and that seemed different because it was at BAM, and this was going to be a party at the house. We did not know what to expect, and honestly I did not expect a lot. Kara and Eric were AMAZING! The kids were absolutely engaged and all of them loved the guided painting and drawing. They were fun, prepared, and professional. Kara had a great connection with the kids, and Eric was really attentive supporting her. My daughter chose a giraffe theme, and most of the kids went home with a recognizable giraffe in their own personal styles. They came with tables, individual easels, aprons, and all sorts of art supplies. Each child got to take their art pieces home in a bag with pretty tissue as the "goody bag" (which saved me tons of time and $! No cheap plastic doo-dads!) Be prepared though, because sometimes the guided painting ends sooner than anticipated (I can imagine every party is different based on the kids). Kara and Eric were able to do a second guided drawing with fun sparkly pens but there was a lull in the middle as they cleaned up the paint supplies and prepared for the drawing. There was about a ten minute time where kids need to be entertained, so maybe a small game for that time period could help the art teachers and keep the kids active and not just waiting for the next activity. If you do not have an artistic bone in your body it's a good place to start and it makes you feel like you can complete something in one sitting. The arts House Café right next-door serves gourmet food and wine as you're doing your class and it is so much fun. We are scheduled again this coming Friday. This time I'm bringing three of my daughters and several good friends are coming to join in on the fun.
