I have been renting a townhome from them since March 2020. I have called I think a total of 4 times prior to this past week for little things - cockroaches and plumbing- which were handled (first time) quickly, second round of issues took a couple of phone calls. This past week there is a mouse/mice/maybe squirrels in my attic. It took 6-7 phone calls last Tuesday to finally get a reply. Someone came Friday, looked in the attic, said there were droppings but no living thing at that moment and left. The very next day I found droppings in my kitchen. I called the repair line, and sent text messages with photos showing the droppings and requesting a phone call. No one called. This morning I gave it a couple of hours and then called again, leaving a detailed message. Nothing. I finally emailed the main contact person and explained the entire situation. The repair line woman called and told me she doesn't appreciate being called a liar, she was at a personal appt and had called the owner and was waiting. I work in healthcare - I know appts can sometimes be many hours. A simple text could have covered it. I thanked her for letting me know, agreed about the time of appts, and attempted to say this about a text - was interrupted and told the pest people would be here Wednesday and she was done with the conversation. Look lady, I don't know what you're going through- maybe you are ill, maybe you've got a family member who is ill. I am sorry for that. Your lack of response to anything says you cannot handle your job right now, and maybe need to ask for more help. Take a beat, don't attack your tenants, and tell people you need assistance if that's the case. If it's not, no you don't do your job well, and are not responsive. I will not rent from their management again if this is what I have to deal with. The property is nice, my neighborhood is nice, there's a lot of positives. But one giant negative has negated how I've felt about this company. read more

This is a weird company my wife and I toured a property before we went on vacation we loved the property met with an agent( Jason) he sent over all of the information for us to proceed with the application we did our part of paying for the application fee and we waited and technically still waiting. I called and left messages to let us know the status and still nothing! Then we decided to look at Zillow and noticed that the price increased and we still didn't hear anything back from Jason. I filed a complaint with the better business bureau as well, she's lying to them, stating she sent the plumbers out there for the pipes and they said the sound is normal, she never sent anyone out for the vibrating pipes, she never responded to me, regarding them until I called when she said she isn't sending anyone out, she sent people to fix the toilet that's it. This woman has no self control and the fact that she attempted to attack me means she has definitely tried others and she will try it again. This woman is a psycho! Barbie is a known prevaricator, and can spin a large web of deceit. Horrible accounting documentation. Uses in house repair services to charge whatever they want, and supply receipts on store bought invoice pads. Do not relay any info to tenants, nor provide info on tenants. Do not provide tenant contracts or leases to owners, hence keeping the fabrication of deceit lines open. Stay away - find yourself an alternate management company. The most odd leasing company I've ever tried to work with! My husband and I both have crazy work schedules and can only view homes on weekends. That's been perfectly fine for any other leasing agent we've been in contact with, until Creative Housing. They flat out refused to do a tour for us on Saturday because "No one who sees a place on Saturday, frankly ever rents the home, so we just don't do that anymore." Are you kidding me? That might explain why your house has been listed for over 60days. If they're going to be that unreasonable while trying to lease the space, I don't want to imagine what it's like to work with them on a regular basis. Best of luck, Creative Housing. They have poor communications skills. I have used them because I am an out of state owner of two homes. I have never received any information about my tenants. I don't even know their names so I could send them a Christmas card for being long term tenants! I never know when my home is vacant, I just don't get a check in the mail and have to assume one has moved! I do get the repair bills which seem to be constant and overly expensive for the work done. The repair bills don't say anything but how much I owe and a brief message about the work done. I can't tell if it is tenant error or what. I'm actively looking to replace them right now!!!! read more

My fiance and I are moving to Greenville and spent two days frantically looking at as many houses as possible. We showed up to a Creative Homes listing 10 minutes before our scheduled appointment. 5 Minutes after the appointment time we called the office because no one had shown up. The person on the phone said she will call the person scheduled to meet us and call us right back. 10 minutes later we left the property when no one showed up and no one called back. We still have not received a call back or any form of communication from Creative Homes. Do not work with this company! read more

We rented from Creative housing for almost roughly a year and a half. We loved the house. The actual owner of the house was sweet and way more helpful than Peyton. Creative Housing and specifically Peyton have almost kept us from signing new leases twice now. This time we had a broker who was dedicated, vigilant and customer service driven. The exact opposite of Peyton and Creative Housing. When we moved from the property we we're no longer under contract. We were month to month. We were never late with our rent. They never gave us a receipt for our rent. Not even an email verification. my fiance got offered a job in Atlanta GA so we had two weeks to move. We found an apt there put in our application. Everything was approved that day except rental history. Peyton drug her feet causing us to almost lose this apartment. We wouldn't have been able to find one in time either. It took a week to get what they needed. Now our lease is up at our current apartment and once again we needed rental verification from Peyton. Our broker called Peyton twice, I called twice left a heated message, my fiance called twice left a message. No response to anyone. The Broker emailed Peyton and that's when Peyton called her back. She rudely and condescendingly informed our broker that she doesn't do that and no one in SC gives or takes rental verifications anymore. (False Peyton asked for rental refrences when we moved in to the house they were leasing) Peyton answering 4 simple questions is the only thing we were waiting on. Her unprofessional attitude and rude behavior almost cost us being out of a place to live. Luckily I'm quick on my feet and I found the property owners email and phone number. I sent it over to our Broker and she got an immediate response. The owner of the house is hopefully not using Creative Housing any longer because she did fine with out them. (She also fixed our dishwasher when Peyton again wanted to take her sweet time) long story short. Dont rent through creative housing don't waste your time with Peyton. There are way better companies out there. There's a reason every platform theyre on they have a less than aa desirable rating and a D with the BBB. read more

I wouldn't give them any stars if that was possible. We had a two week notice to move due to job transfer, so we had to do everything online. I had done some research on the area and knew what areas we would like to be in. The listing said it was were we wanted to be and the house looked pretty nice, and of course the staff was oh so nice on the phone, so we signed the lease. When we got here not only was the house in a different location, it wasn't even the same house from the listing! It was the house across the street. When we mentioned that to them they basically said whatever. The listing showed a nice backyard for the kids, the house we got had a very small yard and an 6 foot drop off. We sucked it up for the year but counted down the days until the lease was up. When the lease was up Barbie was completely dismissive! Save your self the headache and stay away!!! read more

Renter Beware!!! This company initially appears to be professional, until it is time to deal with promises and commitments made by the staff. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ensure that you receive an initial walk-through, and make them write down and sign all issues in the house. We were not offered this upon move in (big mistake on our part!). When it is time to move out, they will not offer a walk through. DO IT, and when you do it, make them fill something out stating what they saw. We are currently battling issues over our deposit from the previous house, and being accused of leaving the house "filthy and it stank to high heaven", both things which were never mentioned during the walk through. When we approached them about getting an itemized list, they, of course, were not able to provide it at the time. Promises have been made in the new house of theirs we moved into (definitely would not have if we had known they would turn into witches!) that have not been kept, and no certain answer has been given. Barbie's suggestion to us when asking for a time line of getting issues resolved was to move out. VERY unprofessional. Take your time and money somewhere else!!!! read more

I hate even giving this company one star. I live in California and Barbie, Peyton and Joanne manage 3 of my properties in South Carolina. Its my fault I've been with them for years, however I don't live in the area... The final straw: Barbie gives 100% of a deposit back to a renter who trashed a property of mine. We're talking 3x4 carpet stains, the renter ripped the carpet from the closet and cut and pasted it in the stained area. So now the living room and closet carpets look horrible. Barbie allowed all renters to have pets with no deposits even though my rental agreement states no pets. She never returns phone calls or emails, and since I live 2000 miles away, thats a huge problem. Do not use this company! Renter or Landlords be aware. read more

I moved down here from out of state rather fast and Creative Housing seemed like a convenient way to find a rental. You are better off going through a real estate company as there are plenty of rentals in Greenville; plenty. Once you sign they show there true colors. Barbie and company are all liars and only care about money. The place was not in very good condition when I moved in. I had to do a lot of cleaning and replace a few small items and fixtures that should have been provided. The year passed and I finally got out of my lease. I cleaned the place from top to bottom. I did a walk through and it was turn key ready for the next tenant. But now that I am inquiring about my deposit Barbie is ignoring my calls. When I got her on the phone ONCE she began spinning nonsense, telling me I had to wait, and that she was too busy to deal with it. She said she had a lot of work to do, she would not let me get one word in. Then she hung up. Now she ignores my calls. She even picks up the phone and hangs it up without saying a word. I blocked my cell number and she picked up the phone... But then hung up again. I plan on going to small claims court with them. I was in a terrible rush to move, because of work. I needed a rental fast. I just wish I never got involved with these people. Once I got settled in I did a web search and found nothing but bad reviews. They have over seven complaints with the BBB in the last three years. There are upset people all over the upstate. Awful awful people. BUYER BEWARE ! Creative Housing was managing the rental of 2 homes I own. We were very disappointed with the job that they performed for us and on behalf of the tenants in the homes. They are extremely non-transparent and unprofessional in their business dealings. They don't return phone calls and emails and have produced very questionable invoices for very questionable property repair work. As a tenant if you are encouraged to leave a property to rent another that they are managing, you should be very suspect of the reasons why - it may be that the landlord is asking for proof of work done or other items and they just want to remain unaccountable. Based on my own experience and having read some of the reviews here, it is clear that Creative Housing is serving neither the tenants nor landlords well. Perhaps they are taking us all for a ride. We are current renters with Creative Housing. The staff are extremely hateful and rude about everything. When we moved in the house was filthy. The refrigerator was in the middle of the kitchen just sitting there. I called and they yelled at me and told me the house was cleaned and I was making it up but if I wanted out of the contract they would release immediately. Then 3 days in the air conditioner broke. We called and they fussed about it breaking, told us they didn't know when it would be fixed, said if we hadn't changed the air filter we would have to pay for the repairs(we had't been in but for 3 days), and if we took matters into our own hands they would't pay a dime. The stove had the wrong drip pans for 2 weeks before anyone would replace them. I couldn't even cook on it. The back sliding glass door's lock was busted. When I called about it not locking I was told I should have looked at the house closer before signing the contract. We are threatened constantly that if something is repaired it will be deducted from our deposit. I went to the office to discuss an issue and Barbie yelled at me, pulled out our contract and started shaking it in my face then followed me out the door fussing at me. I have used Barbie McDonald and her fabulous team for 5 years! They have provided outstanding customer service for all of those years. I always get returned phone calls and emails and I have had the house vacant for a VERY short time. I started out with another company 5 years ago and they could not get it rented in 3 months! Barbie took over and within weeks I had a tenant. I'm really sorry the other reviewer had a bad experience, but I can tell you that you will have peace of mind if you use Creative Housing! Recently finished a one year lease with Creative Housing as the property manager. We were in town for two days and had to find a place as my husband had taken a job transfer. Looked at a lot of homes and on the second day, which was a Saturday, saw the listing for the home called and spoke to the office personnel who was extremely helpful. She called the Broker in Charge who met us at the office, even though it wasn't open, and got us through the process to secure the rental. During the year, our emails and phone calls were answered very quickly and we found everyone very professional and helpful. We are getting our full deposit back with no problems. I'd submitted an application to this company on 7/27/2012 for a rental property. Was told by the receptionist that she'd have to give the application to an agent, she couldn't do anything with it.. Well after I left an hour or so later, I changed my mind and didn't want the application to be processed, so I made 7 attempts to call and get my money back and to cancel the application, and no one ever called me back.. So Monday 7/30/2012, I started calling them again at 9 am, cause that is when they open, and still couldn't get an answer, and left 3 messages again.. I was called back after 10 am, and was told that it was too late they'd already began processing my application.. Personally I think that isn't the truth, they just wanted to keep my money. I was told Friday it would be Monday before it would even start and they expect me to believe that an hour into the day on Monday that they've already started it..... It's just a way to scam people out of their money... read more

Doesn't deserve one star, THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. We rented from them for one week, and then we got the hell out of our lease. I have NEVER been spoken to so rudely by a person before in my entire life. They have a nice agent show you the house and tell you all the things that will be fixed (our house literally had holes in the outside siding, cracked windows that ended up breaking with thunder) but they lie, and when you call to follow up with them they are the rudest people ever! I was getting no response from Roger when he stood me up on the day he was to come and fix many things in the house, and no one was answering or returning my calls from the office, so I went to the office myself. Barbie was there, with her usual scowl. I told her I was looking for Roger or someone who could help me with all the repairs needed. She told me "You can't just come in here! You need to call for an appointment!" I told her I did have an appointment the day before but Roger stood me up all day and never returned any of my phone calls. "You need to keep calling" I started to tell her I had a broken window and she interrupted my loudly and aggresively "I don't care!" and I told her you should care! She then told me that if I was so unhappy I could just leave, by the weekend (it was Thursday). This was the first week of our rental, and this is how they treat people! A person has every right to go into a public office, I'm a paying client as well! It was the most unbelievable awful experience of my life. My husband and I made the plans, and moved out that weekend into a hotel. It was the best decision! We are now happy in our new home. read more
